Should we stay together for the sake of the children? - Mufti Menk

  • Why remain married if the children are going to watch the worst qualities of their parents. Fighting, swearing, yelling, abusing etc. The child will grow up with those bad qualities at the back of his or her mind and may reenact that exact behaviour in marriage later.
So make a wise decision. You might want to separate for the sake of the children.

Allhumdulillah, Allahu akbar! Allah guides whom he will, it is a blessing.
Al Fatiha is the fifth surah sent down, but the first surah that was sent down complete (not in portions). Continue with your memorization and recitation. I love reciting from the Quran. My favorite time to recite is at night, when it is quiet. It can feel as though you are floating when you get a good rhythm. It even makes me cry sometimes.
Indeed, we have made this Quran easy in your tongue in order that they might be reminded. 44:58
read what is easy of the Quran...73:20
When you read the Quran, seek Allah’s protection from Satan the rejected one. 16:98
Read in the name of your Lord and Cherisher... 96:1
May Allah continue to guide you, and may you gain much from the treasures in the Quran. It is truly a great mercy from Allah. From Allah we come from, and to him we shall return.

My mom wanted to stay in an abusive marriage with my dad for the sake of my sister and me, but I told her to divorce him because we refuse to live in toxic atmosphere. She became ill because of stress and emotional/verbal/physical abuse in her marriage, her health was at stake, but she didn't want to separate because she was sure that people would badmouth my sister and me, that we won't be able to get married or have a normal life as children of divorced parents. I couldn't bear to see my mom struggle every day just to keep our family together, picking up the pieces of the marriage that fell apart and trying to have it under control just because of my reputation and my sister's reputation.
Children deserve to live in a healthy space and may Allah, s.w.t reward you for this video, Mufti. You really pointed out all the facts and reality of toxic marriage and families. ♡

Beautifully put Imam Murrah but mist people are caught in a web of false state of respect. They worry about what society will say, lack of support they will get and the fear of coping alone. These facts if life are very real and I speak through personal experience that the Road is a very tough and lonely one that not many can carry the burden before they fall apart mentally and physically. You just need to believe in Allah and ask for his help and mercy sincerely and it will work out. For those of you that are going through a troubled time, I was divorced when my husband left us when my daughter was 4 and my son only 2 years of age fir another woman. After much hardship, I put myself through exams and found work which led to a great job to support my 2 children. They are both now studying medicine at university. Mashallah they are really balanced adults and are happy. We didn't have much but had our dignity and self respect. Hold onto that and don't worry about others

Usually parents (typically women) don’t want to divorce their husbands because of financial reasons. Wives are scared because they don’t have jobs, income, or savings that they can rely on. I know mothers who are scared to divorce because they have no one to pay the bills or house especially if they divorce the father. And looking for a job gets hard and challenging, especially when these mothers have no experience in the outside world

That is why I feel like it is important for a woman to have some sort of education or working experience so it can get easier for her to get back to working if she doesn’t already work when she was married.. Work in general is something empowering to any human being, and makes them feel strong and independant. You still can be in a marriage where you help each other and do things for each other, but there is nothing wrong with also working for your own self and building that strenght for when and if something happens. Even without something happening to one partner, it is good to have that work. For your own good.

We’re all single, Most of us will be 30 soon but the pain gets worst as we’re getting older. No matter how much we try to heal ourselves through Islam, Quran or therapy, nothing is working. On the contrary, the knife that pierced our hearts seem to dig in deeper.

@lovekitties I am you now at age 49.it does get harder as u get older. I was a " passive Muslim" in the sence that I always made DUA but wasn't reading any of my salaah or reading quraan. There was no happiness growing up all I remembere was my dad being physically abusive towards my mum.
I learned from a very early age never to trust men and promised myself not to get married.
But to fulfill my mother's wish I accepted an arranged marriage. Because of my mental state(only known to me) I didn't feel I deserved to be happy. I use to fight with my hubby for every little thing.for some reason I wanted him to abuse me. I guess I was wanting to feel that pain my mother was going through for so long. Fortunately my hubby wasn't abusive but this went on for a few years because I didn't know how to be or live in harmony. I've never ever experienced peace of mind, bliss or happiness. I didn't think it possible. Two years ago @the age of 47 calamity hit me which forced me to go on my knees and pray. My DUA once again was answered. I haven't miss a salaah since. As I continued to better my relationship with Allah
My life bettered. The darkness n negativity in my life lifted. I could now see all the blessings that I haven't been seeing that was overshadowed by my negativity because we live in an environment like ours were pain dominates. Two years ago I went for my first umrah. from the time I stepped Into the haraam I didn't stop crying until I completed my umraah. From that moment something lifted from me. For the first time in my life (47) I felt peace... Of mind.. I felt blissful... I felt happy. And to this day it hasn't stopped for Wallahi Allah says you take one step towards me I will take 10 steps towards u.
That knife will dig deeper if u focus on the pain. Or u could use that knife to cut yourself loose and free yourself. Besides your pain focus on your blessings for if u look closely they will shine Tru. Start with your salaah ( and fulfilling each salaah for me is still a battle)

Almost got a divorce because one of my parents starts to love someone else but they didn't separate because of us. I know marriage will never be perfect and alhamdulillah at least my parents love me... I am grateful for that . But they should resolve it just like what Mufti said is true. Usually a child growing up in this environment will start doubting and be cynical when marriage is brought up. They'll get the wrong idea. Honestly it is worse when parents don't divorce just for the sake of their children. What is the point of a married couple together when they don't have love for each other?

Relations with single parents and children can also become toxic because the sole parent in whose care the child is in will vent their anger on the children now that they are separated from their spouse. Before the children were safe because the parents were arguing between themselves. Now you may have a situation where resentment is directed at the child. Separation is necessary if the spouses cannot live together anymore but separating for the sake of the children is not ideal either.
