I've got an absolutely beautiful LG 60 inch plasma. Standby flashes red, twice, then nothing. Breaks my heart. I've loved that TV.

I was given one of these sets just over 3 years ago (50" version), Wouldn't turn on but the standby light flashed, I recall something about counting the standby light flashes to determine the fault, Now i am only a 'dabbler' in electronics & rely on repair forums etc for information,
The number of flashes mine gave I could find no info on & at that time used boards were still fetching a premium, Luckily I just happened to find another identical model with a smashed screen & got it for a £5 (result!), So I just cheated & swapped all the boards over & now 3 years later still all is well!, (but have kept the old boards of course),
I take it the standby wasn't present on this one so this video will no doubt come in useful in the future. Many thanks.

I have a 60" Panasonic plasma TV sitting in my room that I have been hoping to repair for the last 7 years. I hope a simple repair like this will get it going and I also hope it will be worth the wait.
Thank you for posting your TV repairs. Saving machines from the scrapyard is what I do also. People are far too quick to junk repairable things these days.

I've two Panasonic Plasma TV's, one 43, the other 37. Both great, on black and silver. And quite correct, great for winter, but had to put on a fan and bag of ice watching tonight's F1 Race, bloody sweltering!!

One thing I can sugest with "all" panasonic plazma TV's is to allways check that all the board Grounding screws are tight as bad grounds from loose ground screws on these sets are a known issue, and a loose grounds will damage the boards , As Allways assume the caps on the boards are charged and are just waiting to shock you back into the stone age until proven otherwise with a multimeter set to measure high voltage DC. .. great repair example ..

What is the chip's part number?
    Is it still commonly available?
I'd like to look at its datasheet to see if it would be possible to create a different circuit that would do the same thing, for when the chip is no longer available.
I don't know if our Panasonic 3D Plasma TV has that chip or not. I'm too lazy right now to spend a lot of time looking at the schematics. LOL wherever they are.
This TV is "old" now as it was purchased, I think, in 2009 or so.
I have had to repair it twice now, but stupid easy fixes.
The first time, the set, when turned on, would come on, (flash) and then power off.
When I put it on my bench and took the back off, I tested it again and immediately saw what the problem was.
It has several fans across the top of the chassis and one of them was seized.
As they have 3 wires, I immediately realized that the computer was sensing that the fan was not spinning, so it wouldn't allow power up of the TV.
All I had to do was to take the fan apart and do a full cleaning and oiling of it.
It's been working fine ever since.
The 2nd time, it was similar in that it would click when trying to power up, but wouldn't come on at all. This was a year or two later after the 1st fix.
When I took the back off, I confirmed that all the fans were still working. They were, so then I looked at all the large caps. And sure enough, that largest one on the power supply board was about to pop its crown. LOL
I replaced that and I think another one that I was suspicions about. Problem solved. This TV has been working perfectly since then.
I really don't want to replace this Panasonic Plasma TV because, for one, the picture is perfect, the colors are better than many new ones and the fact that "new" ones are just not reliable enough to last 10-15 years.
As much as I hate LG, years ago, I did buy a 3D LG (47" I think it was) for my computer and Wii U to play Mario Kart in fake 3D. It actually did a reasonable job in 2D-3D conversion. For actual 3D movies, it was MEH. Not nearly as good as the Panasonic.
But after 3.5 years, the LEDs started to go purple/blue and while under Best Buy warranty, there were no more 3D TVs to replace it with. So they gave me, first, another LG to replace it with, but that was HORRIBLE! Worse color reproduction ever.
Then, a Sony 800 series. That lasted a very short time, so they replaced it with another Sony 800 series. When I got that one had a deep-layer arched crack right dead center along the lower edge! The crack was on the inner layer!
Ok, no problem.... back to Best Buy... they gave me ANOTHER 800 series. Got that one home and wouldn't you know it, on a white background, it had a very fine, pink swirl line through the display (more center).
This time, back to Best Buy again and as luck would have it, an actual Sony rep was there.
We had a chat in private and he admitted that Sony is aware of several problems with the 800 series.
So he talked to the store manager and worked out between the 3 of us, for a Sony 900F, which was twice the price as the 800. I only had to pay $100 as the Sony rep approved a customer service thingy.
That one has been amazing ever since. knock on cheap plastic. LOL

I have a question for you. On the Panasonic ST60 there is a potentiometer # VR251 located on the powerboard. Turning it up and I'm assuming increase voltage and seems to increase peak brightness by a small amount. There is no information regarding it or its function in the service manual. Do you have any idea what its actual function is used for? I have 3 ST60s and each one is in a slightly different position. Perhaps they are used to fine-tune panel brightness to a certain reference at the factory. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this.

If you are talking about a plasma. , it sets the voltage to the scan boards. The voltage will be marked on the back of the screen. It needs to be exact for best picture.

any idea what to do when the standby light is on but the screen does not turn on? the high frequency switch on noise is missing and the screen stays just black - nothing happens. you can just turn it off again so the red standbly light goes on and the turn off switch can be heard. it is a TX-P50VT50E plasma.
