Dubai Creek Tower has no announced height, and stopped once Jeddah Tower stopped building. Dubai will wait until Jeddah Tower has finished, and will then complete Dubai Creek Tower to be slightly higher to reclaim that title.

Big diff building a tower to save money on real estate,, like in NYC or Shanghai--but in a desert with vast amounts of land they are just vanity projects. With the transition to renewables, I wouldn't be surprised if these buildings were eventually abandoned, too expensive to maintain

Very very high cost for vertical developments just serve a few person, the same cost of investment for horizontal development that it can built new city for huge number of people.

The dubai creek tower hasn't been cancelled it's just trying to get a perfect mode to pass through the 256 block max height

Nice view from these but I say that the basic need for tall buildings is when there is scarcity of space in the area. The desert around the Arab cities has plenty of space to expand outwards.

Its worth saying the Dubai Creek Tower is just an insurance policy to keep the title of the world's tallest building in Dubai. Hence when construction of the Jeddah Tower was halted the construction of the Dubai Creek was also halted. I doubt it will be restarted until somewhere actually starts to build a skyscraper taller than the Burj Khalifa
Jeddah tower construction resumes in March 2021.
Dubai Creek Tower, additinal documentation is needed and will be resumed in February 2021 and will be finished by September 2023.

The contract with Binladin company that is supposed to build the Jeddah Tower, will end in approximately 2 months, so I hope after it ends, they will find another company and continue building the skyscraper.
I wish any other building attempting to go taller than Burj Khalifa fails. I am not from U.A.E neither have I ever been there but I really like the design of Burj Khalifa

I find it strange that only middle eastern and more specifically gulf countries are dreaming up these skyscrapers, not sure why not many other countries or regions are planning the same, it's perhaps possibly a little too ambitious.
Worked on the Kingdom Tower project, the partners were forced to do it. Never made sense for them. Total clash if egos that backfired. Now a relic. Pffft.

Short answer: Covid19 is responsible for most of it.
Jeddah Tower was on hold before the Pandemic hit. I guess they ran into issues. Not easy to build a potential white elephant.
