- A moisture meter is almost an essential tool in the wood shop. Too much moisture in your woodworking projects can cause them to warp and crack, and so this moisture meter made by a brand called Nice Power, can help in determining what wood is ready to use. Seems like a good one for a very reasonable price. I purchased the Klein pinless one a few weeks back & have liked it. Like you, I was guessing for the most part with pieces I've kept for a while.

I might be completely wrong but I wonder if the modes being different for harder to softer wood is just that the pins go in deeper which makes a better electrical connection which I bet is what it's actually measuring. Just trying to figure out how it works
They don’t seem to but I didn’t think of that! Have to check it out when I’m in the shop again!!
@@Brads-Woodshed or maybe it measures the amount of current traveling from tip to tip which would vary depending on how dense the wood species is. I bet that's it. 🤷♂️
