Who really cares what an ex First Lady wears as long as she’s presentable. Mrs Carter was far too classy to worry about such things.
Don't downplay Melania's rudeness and inappropriateness. It definitely isn't presentable at all. This is a one-and-final event that a respectable former FL will have. It is only right to show respect and not make it about one's self. Melania shouldn't have come at all if she would just break common sense protocol. Wearing black at a funeral service is a universal knowledge and she knows it too well. She doesn't belong in any affair that concerns the line of America's brightest leaders and FLs.

First of all my condolences. Second, under the circumstances what President Trump and the entire family is going through Melania looked gracious as always. People don’t wear all black to funerals anymore. Something extra nice is all expected. A couple years ago I wore a pair of blue jeans and tshirt with some fashionable jewelry to take off the glare if it bothered anyone. Big deal. I lost a true friend. Every time I cross my beaten legs encouraged to sit up straight Melania will always be one of my sought female mentors.

My mother died at 94. The entire family, close to 50 of us, chose to wear purple, mauve, lilac, including ties for the men. No black. It was lovely.

I wore purple to my Husbands funeral.He was a 100 percent. Veteran and so loved by friends and relatives.He was a Chaplain in the Army for 31 years.I do not think it matters to God what color clothes you wear to honor your loved one

They critics also don't realize that the funeral of a Christian is a celebration of life, acknowledging the Christian is now in heaven. We all wore light colors for my son's Celebration of life 2 months ago because he IS in heaven.

It is absolute protocol that all former First Ladies (if still alive and medically able) are to attend funerals of former First Ladies and Presidents. Her husband (Donald Duck) did not attend because of his current court trials. The grey coat she wore looked cheap and definitely not appropriate for her title as "former" First lady. She looked totally out of place. I wish she had not shown up - would have been better for everyone.

I’ve been watching all the footage. What a beautiful couple they were. Beautiful people in every sense. My husband's funeral was in the Fall of the year and I wore a rust colored dress and so did his first wife. We did not plan it that way, it just happened 🤷🏾♀️ we both laughed. I didn't want to wear black to his funeral.

Wearing black to a funeral is not required! She was tastefully dressed and had the grace to show up. I've been to funerals with different moods and contexts and black was not the dominant color, but just not flashy.

IMHO it's not so much an issue with the light grey coat -- it's that she could NOT be bothered to take it off during the memorial service!
