Nice installation. I wouldn't worry too much about not having gages newer reliable cars. But if you drive a 10 year plus old beater, chances are that original alternators could be at the end of their life cycle. It could provide you early warning before it leaves you stranded. Older high mileage vehicles require constant vigilance.
It's nice to have if you run a newer vehicle with aftermarket equipment. You can see what's happening to the system under load.
Great video! I’d definitely be interested in a short add on video explaining how to monitor voltage directly from the battery via relay. Thanks
Will work on it!
Plz do!
Great install vid. I am in between rewiring my boat, golf cart and classic car right now. I know alot about mechanics/fabrication just havn't dabbled with 12v electrical much. Great content.
Glad it helped!
I am interested in that video with the relay coming directly from the battery
Thanks for the feedback!
So am I.
@@cm1133 Noted. Are you guys cool if I just do the video on the bench vs in a vehicle?
I love the attention to detail. The shrink wrap over the loom is a great idea. As is the factory style connector. I really hate spade connectors.
Glad you liked the setup 🙂
Why do you hate spade connectors
Great tutorial, I recommend when soldiering close to electronics use a little alligator clip to be a heat sink to protect from cooking anything down stream, again really great vid. I had to add a volt meter to my 2017 Nissan Electric NV200
That heat sink idea is a great tip! Thank you!
That's a good option to have inside while starting any vehicle. I actually modified my schumacher battery tester to be able to plug into the cig lighter port instead of needing to pop the hood every time. I like how the loom was done on the harness. I never have the periphery proper sized heart shrink tubes. I just end up using electrical tape and zip ties (zaps)
Definitely. I was using 1/8th inch in the video. I can't even find it on Amazon, have to buy it from a local distributor.
Do you have the video on how to use a relay
Yup, I have this video czcams.com/video/wzEQ6oc6fAc/video.html
Did you ever make a video showing how to make the relay? I’m in the middle of my setup and am at a standstill trying to figure it out.
Not yet
@AnthonyJ350 ,please make that video, thanks 👍
@@AnthonyJ350 any chance you’re working in the relay video?
@@brokenwrench404 Not yet, I'll try to make one on the bench to demonstrate the concept
You really need these on all vehicles to find out when your the alternator is going bad dropping to 12+ volts intermittently and not showing 13.x to 14.x volts at all times.
Is handy. There are vehicles with regulated voltage control systems where it does fluctuate czcams.com/video/8NRajpYXGb4/video.htmlsi=LOtAuSKR4-myecRP
Thx!
You're welcome!
Where did you get the plug connector from? Just on Amazon ? Thank you! Installing my volt meter and it’s running constantly now it’s time to watch your relay video and apply that 😂
Yup, I find a lot of connectors on Amazon
So what did you connect it to?
Just wired it to the auxiliary power port.
where did you get the voltage meter from?
Just on Amazon
Is this better than available voltmeter in lighter socket?
Might be
Would a plug in volt meter have been just as good?
Like plug into the cigarette lighter port?
$5 on Aliexpress
Nice, I don't shop there
