This is a "done right" 65 F/B. The sound, the stance, wheels and tires, plus the interior make for a pony to be proud of. That was a hell of a lot of work, I know and it's well done. Drive it and be proud because you've got something that's historic, looks great and is something other than a Chevy.
I remember having a car just like that back in the 90s. I had to let it go but it was originally a 6 cylinder car that we converted to a v-8. it was really a 1966 model but I put a 1965 gas cap on it because I felt it looked better. It had a crane fireball cam in it and I welded the headers to the exhaust system because I was a 19 year old kid that didn't know better. Good times
I have a 1955 Ford Thunderbird and just bought a dual 4-barrel intake manifold and carburetors and a 3/4 cam for it. Still looking for some authentic looking air filter housings (the one on it is oil bath, but want a couple of regular ones). I hope it sounds as good. Mine also has a true dual exhaust.
What a beautiful car, I love that color it's almost like the Ford blue of my 69 Mach 1. But that other commenter was right, Iwould love to hear that running down the road going through the gears.
I just watched that again and I've got to add something to it I had a 63 split window co-op Corvette The love of my life till I got divorced. But in high school I would get rides with a friend that had a 64 and a hal fast back 289 Mustang. That was my first love I never did get one though. What a bad a** piece of machinery, I don't know which one would have won the Corvette or the Mustang but what a wonderful thought⚙️🇺🇲⚙️🇺🇲⚙️🇺🇲🔥🔥🔥
I owned a real K code (aka Hipo) '65 fastback and restored it myself (with help from Orlando Mustang) to be all stock and then wanted to hop up the engine but of course didn't want to mess with the original Hipo 289 so I found a mexican block 302 (basically a 302 with the bigger Hipo 289 main caps). I won't detail all the work I did on it but I used the Ford 289 LeMans cam...it sounded similarly glorious though mine had more snap as I was running 11.7:1 compression ratio.
Check out Bobby Fazio’s ‘65 Super Stock 289 Mustang that goes through the traps at 9000rpm. The engine makes 517hp out of just 289 cubic inches, with stock heads and carb!
That is a bitchen hot rod! It sounds perfect and looks perfect, not outrageous but perfect in its appearance. That’s how a car should look! Great job man! 👍
The sound is totally appropriate for the car, and totally badass. Also, cam duration should be matched to/appropriate for static compression ratio…that much lope tells me you traded all driveability and power below 4500rpms for that sound. Extra 20hp from 4500 to 5000. Was it really worth it?
had a 66 GTO in the 70,s with high lift Isky can and dual Cherry Bomb mufflers it would chrip the tires as the cam did its job going through parking lots
What an absolutely gorgeous car. I wish Ford would remake the 64.5 - 69 mustangs, almost exactly the same. Simple engines, cable-driven interior controls, upgraded stereo- no push button start, no GPS tracking, no computerized traction control or launch control- none of the extraneous crap they put on new cars. Just bare bones fun.
We could only wish....never happen. Late models are HUGE in comparison to our old pony cars, super heavy and laden with electronics. No interest no matter how fast they are. You could fix an early stang with a 2 in 1 screwdriver and 12 pc tool set.
It’s ridiculous how bloated modern muscle cars are, including the Mustang. I remember my ‘67 Chevy II, which would be considered a compact car these days.
@@gordocarbo Word. I could practically rebuild my engine with a 60-pc Craftsman toolbox and a torque wrench. Now, you need a $1000 scanner & 4 "special tools" to change spark plugs. I hate it. Sure, the hrsprs are fantastic, but I prefer a slightly bouncy speedo & NOBODY knowing where I am unless I want them to. Oh well- the ICE era is almost over. Another decade, everything will be battery powered and 'our' car culture will be all but dead and gone. How fortunate are we to have experienced ICE cars at their peak?!?!
That cam sounds like terror ready to strike! Love the sound, love the car with one exception. S..tcan that crappy, tacky, vinyl steering wheel cover. It really cheapens the interior big time in my book!
Sweet ride. The 289 was a very underrated SB. With the right cam / solid lifter set up, intake and carb you could squeeze 350 hp out of that little screamer. Many a chevy guy underestimated these little FB mustangs and FAAFO.
Yup! Raced a 65 with a 289 auto moderate cam headers stock heads gears. 3 people in it. Had a well tuned 69 SS 350 auto I got smoked from the jump, never caught up. Many yrs later I bought a 65 GT clone and realized they were so light it didnt take much to make em run. I had a mild cam 2bbl C4 trans it would lay rubber from a light and chirp 2nd .Surprised!

What valve springs are on the heads? Stock? Are the heads completely stock? Aftermarket? My cam sounds similar, but if I hit 6000 rpm really fast in acceleration, I have valve springs break due to coil bind. Whoever put my engine together didn’t update the heads. I have the stock valve springs with Ford part number that ends in “66”. I need better valve springs. Its sad, I always thought that ford and dodge would do a throwback event and start remaking old mustangs, chargers, and challengers and other cars at some point since everyone loves these muscle cars. But instead we getting all these electric cars, and they done making Challengers and Chargers after this year........ Sad times, who tf wants a electric "muscle" car if its only sound comes from a damn speaker, this is the sounds we want from a real engine.
This is why the big 3 are making their biggest hp cars ever, sort of a last hurrah. EVs...no interest. They will all be the same cars underneath with differnet bodys. Like disneyland ride, pass on that. I dont care how quick they are .

That is gorgeous. Everything is amazing with the setup. And the 289 sounds like symphony. 👃👃 respect sir.
Sounds great, but what I REALLY want to hear is how she sounds ripping down the street pulling through the gears!
I agree, I'm in the process of restoring my 64.5 Mustang and want to hear as many 289's as I can to make a decision on my set up.

what a perfect car; restored wonderfully, but not over the top and still has that "daily driver" kinda look. Fantastic motor and sound of that cam.
Had a thumper in my 55 Coronet with a 383, nice sound when idle and screaming, also Cherry bombs on it which really gave it the right old sound
Mine has Thumper cam with purple hornier and Tri-Y headers
