Say what you want, Idoing still runs 20x better than any main stream double din out there!! Yes it has flaws but it can do more things better than all the rest.
Seems they are making these Android units to just slightly get by. Android has so much power and capabilities yet these companies are just putting out the bare minimal.
Idling isn't just to help warm your oil, that is a HUGE benefit. It also helps recharge and warm your electrical system so you don't put extra wear on your alternator and wear out all of your electronics. Additionally it'll help warm and cool all of the metals in your engine, throttle body, exhaust, and gears resulting in less warping, debris, and cracking over time. Always idle your engine before and after drives. Take the first 3 minutes of your drive smooth and gentle. And a redline a day keeps the light away!
I have their new 8.0 headunit in my 2018 and it works really well and was 100% plug and play. No need for extra harnesses for anything even the steering wheel controls. My only complaints is the wifi seems a bit weak and doesn't reach very far and the brightness at max brightness can be a tiny bit too dim in the middle of the day but that also depends on the app you are using.
Glare can be done with a easy tablet sized protector that will help with finger smudges too if it’s a breathable one. But you have Plano black touch dials so can’t complain too much. Haha
The android radio not connecting automatically to the phone hotspot is due to the phone itself. On my iPhone you have to open the hotspot in general tab before the radio can auto detect and connect to the phone’s hotspot. The radio connects to the home WiFi because signal is always being broadcast not like the phone which only broadcast signal to connect when you open up the hotspot tab. It’s a pain in the ass but unfortunately it’s what has to be done.
great vidoe as always ! Ive been thinking about getting one of these for my 2017 and you made some good points to consider thank you! Also what is the device holding your phone ?
I have troubles with my rear camera .. the wiring seems complicated.. or I don't know how to solve it.. can u help me ..please. I have the same head unit. I have Honda CR-V 2011
Hey man if you are so inclined you can use an NFC tag in your phone mount to automate turning on tether on your phone. So as soon as you plop it on there your phone will activate tether mode wifi and you head unit will connect automatically. Just like this: www.androidauthority.com/nfc-trigger-tasker-409686/
I have a Seicane unit that looks almost identical in my 2014 Forester. Don't have much to say about the wireless charging issue my cell doesn't wireless charge anyhow. I agree that the glare can be really bad at times and the screen needs a good wipe down every week or two. A non-gloss screen would be better. I never have any issues with Wifi or bluetooth always auto connects to remembered access points and devices and just works without interaction. In fact I tether to my cell to use my cell data plan to run my XM Radio App on the deck. Occasionally the tethering does not work but that has turned out to be a problem with my cell, not the deck. A reboot of my cell fixes the issue on rare occasion if happens without even touching the deck. I also have no issues with Waze or any other apps. Nearly ever get a crashed app except on occasion my XM app (which is a piece of crap app) everything else runs flawlessly. Now for the things that I hate about mine. I came from an 8 inch Alpine deck in the Forester which was ripped off out of the Forester. I replaced it with the Seicane deck, as I wanted to give the Android deck a try, the lure of apps was just too great. Problem is if you are used to high end sound quality, the sound section of this deck is not even close to high end. The deck on occasion mutes the volume down about -24dB for a few seconds on its own for no apparent reason. When the volume is at zero there is a tad of noise through the system that just doesn't exist in high quality decks. While the unit does have front ear and sub line outs they are severely under driven (~1-2v) and REQUIRES an AudioControl Matrix Plus 6 channel line driver to drive external amplifiers sufficiently. An improved sound section with high voltage (5-7v) pre-outs would take this deck a LONG way and to a new level! Even with the line driver the sound quality driving your amps is just not good enough if you are into sound quality and have a system in your vehicle. I call it barely passable... It's slightly better than a factory head unit but not much better. Sound quality score 6 of 10. If you don't really care about sound quality or external amp's etc the deck's sound is fine for your "normal" user but you ain't gonna win any sound quality awards with it no matter what you are driving with it. Garbage in = Garbage out. The bluetooth works great never have any issues with a phone call while driving. It's awesome to watch You Tube or even a movie if you're going to be parked somewhere bored for a while. I use a SSD 2.5" hard drive with thousands of MP3 albums and Mpeg encoded movies saved to it with a USB adapter in the center console USB plug. I do have an occasional issue where the unit gets stuck on the rear camera screen on a frozen rear camera picture. I have to reboot the unit to resolve, to which rebooting is not so easy. There is no power off or reboot option (well there is but it really doesn't power off, it's more like a stand by). It really needs a cold boot option. The best reboot option is to shut the car off for a few minutes and then start it back up which is a real PITA on the rarity that this occurs. My touch screen is responsive and the OS is quick, it also supports split screen if the app allows it. Overall I like the unit, but would be willing to pay double the price for the same exact deck with a high end quality audio section.
Can you please let me know what additional stuff you got to make your rear view camera work. I got a 2018 wrx limited and I swear it just says connect the yellow male and female wires but it doesn’t seem to work at all. I’ve tried multiple combinations and nothing. Would really be a big help. Thank you!
The WiFi tethering and having to reconnect is normal devices like iPads or iPods and the androids and some computers don’t reconnect to tethering. So you have to manually connect it. That’s y it connects to your home WiFi instantly
Did you ever get your FM radio to work? The harness doesnt supply power to the antenna booster so I had to splice it to the ACC power, so now my booster is always on when the car is on.
HA! not even close! you will need a line driver to drive any quality amplifier to a satisfactory level. My biggest gripe with mine, coming from an Alpine 8 inch deck.
It’s the iPhones fault for wireless. When I had an android it was seemless and no drops. But then when I switched to an iPhone I’ve had so many random drops and even trying to connect. IOS hotspot just sucks in general.
...And the crappy Volume up/down buttons. NOTHING beats an analogue rotary volume adjuster. The Up/down buttons were introduced when the first digital stereos were invented (80's?), and they quickly became unpopular. So it was back to the rotary dial. And now..... geeez thick.
From a brief search, it is called Mountek nGroove Snap 3 & it is a dashboard groove mount. www.mountek.com/shop/categories/cell-phone-mounts/ngroove-snap-3-multi-use-car-mount-smartphones-and-phablets/
I made the mistake of buying from this company and ended up getting a used unit that someone else had paired their phone with and downloaded maps to, and it seems that they massively overheated it as well as it smells like burned electronics (and still does weeks later). I had to fix the touch screen calibration myself because it was way off and it also had illegal software installed on it. In going back and forth with support they want me to spend over $100 to ship it back to them so they can "look into" replacing it. It also doesn't work with any of my steering wheel controls in my Smart 453 and the mounting bracket doesn't work properly with the silver backing piece for the stereo mount because there are connectors in the way of it so I had to mount it without the extra backing piece. Oh yes, it also doesn't provide enough USB power to reliably run the USB carplay unit if you also have a thumb drive attached to it and it didn't come with the latest software for it (which was difficult to find). This all feels a lot like a scam to me so buyers beware.
Buy a matte screen protector with anti finger print / glare etc, the boot time , get an ap that can fix this, app crash , install a better OS system stable this will fix wifi and Bluetooth issues. Wifi , add a USB wifi for better wifi. Done
Can’t seem to find your review video of the head unit other than this one just was wondering what you think over all of the unit after 6 months now? Thanks man hopefully we get a review video of not only the things you hate but if it’s worth it and if you got the other harness and how much additional cost that was for you thanks for reading
Luis A www.subispeed.com/gcs-apex-android-v2-head-unit-w-gps-15-wrx-15-sti-17-forester#.Wkg8bCt6qaM or search WRX android on AliExpress, make sure it’s not for the forester
I'm curious, if my WRX didn't come with nav, and I get this, would I be able to use Waze? I'm wondering if by Subaru saying that you don't have nav is just because they didn't install the app on the factory head unit, that you still have the gps hardware installed on your car.
Lol no, that's not how it works. This is a completely separate system, essentially an Android tablet. Comes with a GPS antenna. You can download and use whatever navigation app you want onto the unit, given you have an internet connection.
How does one of what seems like the makers of one the best Android head units out there are located in China (not that surprising) but they have a horrible website that looks so bad it looks like a scam site that would definitely make me think they would just steal my money if I didn't already hear so much about this company. To make it worse, they have an international number (no 1-800) that you're going to have to rack up a hefty bill to even try to call to talk to somebody that may or may not understand you. Keep in mind this is coming from somebody who has never bought from this company and is considering doing so but seeing those two things when you're about to hand somebody that much money is kind of hard to instill confidence. Can anyone speak for their tech support? People say buy this and not Pioneer, Kenwood, etc but I bet you can call them without having international calling on your phone plan and talk to somebody who can help you in a reasonable amount of time. If someone could comment on this that would be great because this company seems very hard to contact and it's concerning before you hand them hundreds of dollars. Also since this is an Android operating system and essentially an Android tablet in your car, couldn't you just run an Android update and updated to the newest version of Android?
I bought the Dasaita Max6 which was $500 and that bitch is niceeee. Sound quality is great. I love my radio but it does take a little time to get used to it.
so you can't see it in day time, it crashes , Bluetooth is garbage...wifi is garbage... slow boot time. touch screen sucks but other than that , it's a great unit. carplay and Android auto seem to be the better way to go. thanks for your honest review on these chepo garbage headunits.
I think there are big reasons why giant smartphone companies are not making android head unit.. Most of AHU is made in China with chinese AP and stuff.. I am just happy using my Lenovo tablet as my android head unit in my car.. no complains so far..
Every single one of your points would seem to be general dealbreakers with everyone
video starts 1:37 -.-
To get rid of the glare, just buy an antiglare screen protector for a tablet and cut it to fit.:)
Say what you want, Idoing still runs 20x better than any main stream double din out there!! Yes it has flaws but it can do more things better than all the rest.

I paid $80 for mine and I'm happy with it. Fitted into my Ford Ranger without much fileing and the harness was $6. Great unit than my stock stero!
What kind did you get? I'm trying to get one for ford ranger as well
Firstly show the specs of the unit.
I have their new 8.0 headunit in my 2018 and it works really well and was 100% plug and play. No need for extra harnesses for anything even the steering wheel controls. Your top 5 is basically the whole unit itself........

Slow, freezes... You just got a cheap unit that's why
4GB RAM version works like a breeze
Mine i hate the steering buttons, everytime i have to reset the buttons
I have troubles with my rear camera .. the wiring seems complicated.. or I don't know how to solve it.. can u help me ..please. I have the same head unit. I have Honda CR-V 2011
I flashed a custom rom to mine and it has fixed a lot of these issues. Faster boot and app launch way faster
Where did you get that custom rom?

Do you have to remove the head-unit when you installed the mountek phone holder?
If the screen is slow to respond to the touch, pressing harder is not going to change that, it's capacitive, not pressure sensitive.
Wifi tethering is an issue with iPhones. Bluetooth not connecting also an iPhone problem. I am getting these issues also with other car radios
Does your fade and balance work when using Spotify, Pandora etc...?
They did make it faster/better kinda. My issue is on the back speakers work.
Great video! Question, what type of phone mount are you using? I need something similar for my STI.
What rear view mirror, Access port holder and phone holders are those?
Did you ever get your FM radio to work? The harness doesnt supply power to the antenna booster so I had to splice it to the ACC power, so now my booster is always on when the car is on.
Hi.. Is the GPS working properly? I mean does it without internet connection?
So is there no way to get the backup camera on the head unit for a 2015?
Do these units have a 4 volt pre out for subwoofer? I want to try one of these but I'm not willing to give up my quality sound...thanks !
HA! not even close! you will need a line driver to drive any quality amplifier to a satisfactory level. My biggest gripe with mine, coming from an Alpine 8 inch deck.
How do u factory reset this head unit?
The most thing i don't like about android head unit is their sound quality.
so did he get a replacement head unit for it coming in with a cracked screen?
My FM is horrible. Can you send me a link where I can get the hardware to fix it?
It’s the iPhones fault for wireless. When I had an android it was seemless and no drops. But then when I switched to an iPhone I’ve had so many random drops and even trying to connect. IOS hotspot just sucks in general.
Thanks for the insights!! I have a 2017 wrx and only want a new unit due to long start up and phone connections... 😡😤
i have the same unite how did u customize the display ?

StarryDynamo7079 that’s not the point. Who wants to pay hundreds for a product that doesn’t do what its advertised to do
i cant believe this thing is only 300 bucks. When i put my last unit in something like this would have been like 1400
What phone mount is that?

49 seconds to load up is absurd. Noooo thank you :)
Atoto A6 boots in 2 second after the initial first boot
Shouldn’t even take this long. Should be 1 second boot up after the first boot.
@@TransitAndTeslas my brand new explorer takes 20 seconds. Whocares
Do you have a video on how you mounted your radar detector? I like how the cords are out of the way.
"5 things I hate about my android headunit, but first here's my promo code" lol
Boot time slow cause this looks like the 7.1 Android unit with Quad(4) core. Get the 6.1 Android with Octa(8) core
MikeM would you be able to put a link to that? Thanks

What's the maximum time on the quick boot setting (#2)?
Have you figured out how to use car play or if it’s possible at all?
What about sound quality, thats all thats really important here. If the sound is better than stock than these issues are easy to forgive.
Other reviewers have mentioned the Seicane sounds much better than any of the stock WRX HU's.
DId you get a new head unit? I didn't see the crack that I remember seeing after the install.
where can you find the harness for the backup camera?
Morgan Elyse x2
Hey what kind of phone mount is that by your head unit? It looks solid
This is one of the reasons I’m reading the comments, I really need something like that
Where do you even get the extra wiring harnesses?
How does one of what seems like the makers of one the best Android head units out there are located in China (not that surprising) but they have a horrible website that looks so bad it looks like a scam site that would definitely make me think they would just steal my money if I didn't already hear so much about this company. What is holding your iPhone ?
What phone mount are you using?
Has anyone has like a slightly static noice when playing music only via Bluetooth?
you have to buy harnesses with EVERY after market radio...
Can you use bluetooth apps
Was this the idoing?
Does it work with apple
does it support android auto ?
car amount for cellphone link?
1st issue they sell screen protectors
Is that the v2?
Can you pls tell how’s the sound quality?
Thanks
I bought the Dasaita Max6 which was $500 and that bitch is niceeee. Sound quality is great. I love my radio but it does take a little time to get used to it.
No one mentions sound quality. That's ok I use my phone. Unless I'm gonna buy this for 5 cars it's pretty pointless anyways.
How do you get internet service on the head uint?
Turn your phone into a hotspot and connect it to it.
Waze sucks. Crashes on Android phones too.
What type of cellphone mount do you have looks good :D
Just a cheap magnetic one from Amazon.
You forgot about the shit internal microphone
so you can't see it in day time, it crashes , Bluetooth is garbage...wifi is garbage... slow boot time. touch screen sucks
but other than that , it's a great unit.
carplay and Android auto seem to be the better way to go.

@1:01 I forgot why I was watching this video.
Sooo about that “5 things you love about it” video.... guess you don’t love it? Lol
I've got one coming in the mail haha!
Signs of very low spec
Good video. Stay safe brother.

So basically it's a big turd, got it
Can I use my
