One of the funnest cars I've owned was back in the early 90s it was a beater 76 nova SS a total day 2 type car it had an old tired 350 with a crane 268 Energizer cam long tubes dumping in front of the rear tires and a Holley on a factory cast iron intake if I remember right, it had a 3.31 gears Camaro 12 bolt posi with 235/60r14 rear tires, I blew the trans up replaced it with a $200 manual valve body th350 blew that up and dropped a tci street fighter with a converter with 1800 or 2500 rpm stall and it would flat out destroy the rear tires with all the transmissions tho, I dropped a nice little 325ish hp 355 in it with a crane Saturday night special had 106lsa cam and a nasty idle and then a lunati bracket master II cam and both sounded sweet but the lunati was way better on the street than the crane circle track style cam and obviously it was bit faster but for the buck it was just as fun with the old tired 350. I miss that car shoulda kept it it had the usual 70s style setup, shackles and air shocks stripes on the hood, 14x8 aluminum slots mags 235/60s on back and 14x6 unilug slots on front with a 195 or 205s or something, but those unilugs were it's demise one day the front right wheel sheared the lugs and took off but it porked the fender on its way out i got discouraged and sold it after i pulled the motor n trans, it was pretty rusty too, i vowed to never run uni lug wheels again.

Good results from a 350 can be done ALOT CHEAPER than what is listed here, find a 86-02 880 casting 1pc rear seal short block, find a set of vortec 350 heads(heads used form 96-98 trucks and 96-02 Vans) port the heads a bit yourself and then if you have a bit to spend, send the heads to the machine shop and get them milled down a bit and maybe even a 3 angle valve job if budget allows, then get a thin shim style head gasket and get a carb intake for the vortec heads, get a cam with around .480-.500 lift, for an N/A build MSD ignition isn't necessary just a stock type HEI distributor is more than enough, and for carburetor use any good carb in the 650-750cfm range, it can be a Holley, edelbrock, or even a good quadrajet, all of those will do the job. And bam, you now have solid reliable set up that will make a solid 360-400hp for under $2,000. And if your on a super, super tight budget just find a complete 96-02 vortec 350 and put a carb intake and hei distributor in it with a set of headers and it will make 300hp without changing any of the internals and will bolt right in place of any older type 350.

Okay here is one for you I've always been just a part's changer. Alternator goes out. Put a new one in belt goes out. Put another one in transmission goes out. Put another one in never pulled a motor never really did any type of upgrades to anything. I got a 1978 Chevy long bed. It's got a 454 in it it's a big block. Small block. Not quite sure on the transmission I know it had a 203 transfer case which blew up. It's sitting on 46 inch. Tires with the 13 inch left with the 4 inch body left. I have way too many questions to ask. I've been asking the same question to a lot of people on CZcams. How do I find out what type of 454? It's got what type of transmission. It's got what would be the best set up for 44. The transmission and transfer case too many questions to ask. Not enough people out there answering. I'm 44 now. I'd like to have it somewhat done by a time on 50.

That is a lot of money to put an anemic 350 in something. I bought a rusted and parted out 2500HD pickup for $1000 with a good 6.0 and 4L80E in it. Needed the rear end for my 2500 I use to haul things in winter, so I figure the engine and transmission are free. Swap mounts are $150 if you get the pricey ones, but you can use stock sbc mounts if you drill a hole in them. Use the fuel tank from the donor truck, and run nylon fuel lines to the rails. Its simple and easy. You can use the radiator and lots of other stuff from the donor truck. My 76 C10 and the 80 C10 along with the 88 C1500 are all getting 6.0 low buck swaps... because $400 buys a rusted out 4x4 with 150k on it where I live. It helps I can rebuild transmissions, engines, and everything else, but this is doable.
For all my cars, well they get Pontiac power because 450ftlbs is super easy, and 550ftlbs is just a 4.25" crank kit away with a 400 block or with a stock bottom end very mild 455. $2500 spent on a 455 gets 11s in most muscle cars, and its mostly factory stuff. Iron heads, cheap headers, stock intakes work just as good as aftermarket ones, whatever compression ratio you want is attainable with a head swap since they all have flat top pistons and every head from 1954 to 1979 will bolt to all the blocks made during that time. Then I can tell everyone that that 505 in my car is just a 326... I dig sleepers.

I like this dude, I subbed to your channel. He makes good sense when he said looking for a cruiser in your C10. Yes that is a nice cruiser engine. I mean you could go a size or 2 bigger on the cam, but you're looking at changing the pistons to a higher compression which means using a higher octane fuel. But from 360 to 400 hp is a lot for the everyday driver. Also gear change, transmission kit for harder shifts. Only if you wanna go bigger. But this man knows what he's talking about. And he's right about the everyday street cruiser. 360 to 390 hp is plenty hp. I give him my 2 thumbs up, 👍👍😃

I'd take a 4-bolt main block bored 30 over. KEEP the stock 350 crank and build the bottom end for a 355 build. Then find 202-iron heads and match that for a 1.6 lift on those rockers, pait that with a 12-deg RV cam. Use an Edelbrock performer intake and mate that with a 750-800 cfm crab (or a jetted out quadra-jet carb would do). Ignition is probably the MSD otherwise a modified-from-stock HEI would do. High volume oil pump and high flow fuel pump. My dad built this with a buddy and had 550ish BHP at the crank 490-505 at the wheels in a 76 k20 paired to a th350 and np203 transfer on floating axles. It was bonkers.
mechanical water pump though: I personally wouldnt trust an electric pump.

    you want a good sbc.
vortec 5.7l fuel injected turn key like a daily driver.
cam and headers is over 400hp. torque off rip. for 1200 bux you can rebuild a vortec 5.7 stick a cam in it. the one i picked is perfect for the application. and get the headers u need for ur car but it loves long tubes.

220cc heads are for 450-500 + hp wild street build, u need 170-200 cc,,, the cam you picked is for 2500-6500rpm... a mild 350 needs a cam 1200-6000rpm cam. Electric water pump os a waste of money the mechanical won't take away much in a low rpm mild,, don't need mad box for mold just a good hei set to hood timing, 32-36 degrees

you can do it for cheaper, I built an average Joe 350 and it’s got a small comp cam in it and overall I would say it makes about 180 horsepower but it’s probably got 300 pound feet of torque and the only major difference is that I have an edelbrock torker intake with a Holley 600 and cam and it’s not even 800, you can build a high compression 355 that pumps maybe about 350+ horsepower for $1575 with a lunati voodoo cam, KB high compression pistons, oversized valves in a pair of stock heads, edelbrock performer intake and a Holley 670 street brawler carburetor and a high volume oil pump (which may not even be needed) I think this guy is just talking from a perspective of money isn’t an issue

    Cheapest option is
993 heads(not crack prone and flow just enough in stock form with 1.94-2.02 heads)
Used dual plane intake of your choice
Flat top(regular gas) or pop up/dome(premium gas) pistons
    L79 327/350hp cam from melling
    Z28 valve springs
1.6 stamped rockers if you want just a little extra power(prefer stamped because they're cheap and essentially never fail)
Cloyes or similar adjustable timing kit set to advance the cam to bring down the l79 power band to be more low rpm and street friendly
    160 degree stant superstat
This will get you into the 350hp ramge with a dummy amount of torque and is gonna be the cheapest while still reliable option. I'd bet if i built this and somebody built the engine he suggested,i could walk away from their pile of missmatched thrown together parts down the strip if both cars were equal. Especially a heavier street car
Almost forgot,no fancy ignition. A stock HEI will work,or an accel/msd HEI will work better. No need for anything more at the rpms these kinda engines will see
