      @raxn2673 Před 2 měsíci

      @@buzzkill36 Well, it was a goofy decision from Hannibal not to march on Rome after the victory at Trasimene. A goofy decision that, after the war, Hannibal himself admitted was a missed opportunity. There are two reasons that historians suggest might have been the reason that Hannibal didn't destroy Rome after Trasimene:
      1) "He couldn't have because of his lack of resources, men, supplies, etc." - but that was long disproven because, near Rome, there wandered a Roman navy of 30 ships. Formidable, right? Carthage had a fleet of 70 ships nearby. Hannibal could have done a sea-land operation, one with his main army, and one with Carthage's fleet, to destroy Rome. Additionally, he did have enough men. The most Rome could recruit to defend the then small city was about 10k men. About 2 legions of men. That would not have been enough for the approximate 45k army of the Carthaginians. Hannibal could've breached Rome and wiped it off of the face of the Earth - he simple could have. Rome was in a crisis, and its legions were all too far away to help. In total, Rome had 6-8 active legions across the Western Mediterranean. Only 2 could arrive immediately in time before Hannibal could have arrived.
      2) "He was influenced by Greek Hellenistic thinking" - the more likely reasoning. In Hellenistic thinking, it was the idea that, in war, you should beat your opponent in battle over and over again so that they fairly surrendered, not being able to fight anymore. It is likely that Hannibal believed this rather than razing Rome, even though that is what he initially wanted before starting the war.
      3) My theory: His focus diverged - as great as Hannibal was, I think his focus diverged onto the next nice looking thing, which is going down to Southern Italy and getting more plunder and supplies and allies. Like instant gratification. Whereas Rome was focused throughout the entire war. They knew what they wanted - remove Carthage out of Iberia and take it for themselves, maintain Corsica, Sardinia and Italy and protect the eternal city.

      Im Also Algerian and Yeah Alexander Is Better But you Have To Understand Alexander Had Ultimate Power and authority And was King Of Greece And Directed All Of Greece's Ressources and warmachine Against The Persian Empire and he was Fighting With the Best Drilled and Experienced Army In the World at that time and His Army was Mostly All Greeks So Spoke Same language had same fighting styles and Tactics and therefore easier to Command, On The Other Hand Hannibal Barca Didn't Have The Same Power and Control Over Carthage's Ressources and Might Wether On Political or Military level and Had to Cope With Garbage Wealthy Beraucratic leaders Who Had Put their Own Interests First Over The inrests of Carthage It's Army and Most importantly it's Army ,Many of them were Corrupt as well and they were The Main Reason Carthage Lost The Second punic war ,And You Also Have To Remember That Hannibal Was fighting With a mixed ethnicity army of thousands of men from different Regions with different Languages and Fighting Styles ,he Had Spanish,Gauls, Carthaginians,Numidians and he still somehow maintained them as an effective fighting force without any records of a rebilion or anything like it And Was Fighting the Best Trained and Drilled Force Of his Time and he managed To Keep threatening Rome's very existence with a single army on their own land for 15 years after Humiliating the Romans and killing or capturing+170k of their total male population he was Also Way batter At Ambushes than alexander,Had Hannibal Had the Power and Authority That Alexander Had He would Have done Many More Greater Things For Carthage and For his legacy

Not all North Africans are black because it's Africa but there's Berbers who lives in North Western Africa who are white-light skinned people. Carthage was a phoenician colony and most High ranking people like Hannibal were middle eastern looking.
