    The Misfits. Like the Ramones, see the t-shirts worn everywhere by people that have never heard them.

      The other day I saw a guy wearing a Metallica shirt. Talked to him for a moment and he couldn't name 1 song. Saw a girl wearing a Pearl Jam shirt a few days later, she was very knowledgeable thank God. Couple days ago a guy with a Zeppelin shirt, fuckin guy couldn't even carry a conversation.

      @@babylonkid I would say that Pearl Jam is not this kind of band - in terms of shirts, hoodies etc. I think people who don’t listen to this kind of music, are going for Metallica, Slayer, Maiden, Ramones, Misfits, Kiss and Zeppelin (kinda) fashion.

      My view on band/artist t-shirts and such, IF they CANNOT name THREE NONE radio songs by a band, they have NO right wearing their merch! More so when it comes to the older punk bands that barely had a radio song and the FANS carried their careers!

    There are two eras of the Misfits: Glen Danzig (late 70's to early 80's), and Michale Graves (Early 90's to mid-90's). 'Last Caress' is from the former time-frame. 'Helena' is from the latter. Check out 'Dig Up Her Bones' which is from the Graves era.

  • @eraigames

    What you need to understand the lyrics is the context. Every Misfits song tells the story of some horror movie or horror TV show. Sometimes the songs are about famous horror movies, but often they are about more obscure stuff or old school B&W era horror.

    From what I gather from Last caress. It's about a person who knows how horrible and evil they are and how they don't care about the actions they inflict, so the chorus is basically saying that death needs to take him away from this world because he's evil. Helena is influenced by the 1993 film 'Boxing Helena' in which a guy kidnaps the woman of his dreams and removes her arms and legs so she cannot escape.

    The Misfits had songs about Science Fiction, Old Horror movies, and, believe it or not, they had a sense of humor. If you decide to investigate them further, May I suggest some songs to check out: "20 Eyes" "Teenagers From Mars" "T.V. Casualty" "Hybrid Moments" "We Are 138" "Queen Wasp Girl" "Horror Business" "Mommy...Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight?" "I Turned Into A Martian" "Earth A.D." and "Braineaters".

  • @Rafael-pi4md
    @Rafael-pi4md Před 3 lety +4

    My favorite songs from each era
    Danzig: I Turned Into a Martian, In the Doorway, Theme For a Jackal, Angelfuck
    Graves: Don't Open Til Doomsday, This Island Earth, Forbidden Zone, Them
    They're very versatile, if you want long songs, they have two: Come Back (Danzig era - 5 minutes) Dr. Phibes Rises Again(Graves era - 6 minutes)
    If you like a 50's song vibe, listen to Saturday Night
    If you like an Elvis vibe, there's American NIghtmare

    Helena is about the movie "Boxing Helena". Which has nothing to do with the sport of boxing. it is literally about a dude who cuts a girl's arms and legs off because he's in love with her and doesn't want her to leave him. It was a movie from the early 90s starring starring Sherlyn Fenn.

    Loved your reaction once you realized what the lyrics were! Truthfully, I only watched the Last Caress reaction and for this reason..to me, The Misfits were only The Misfits when Glenn Danzig sang ('77-'83)... everything after that is garbage. That's my opinion,to each his own. If you are not familiar with Danzig, he's been called the "Evil Elvis", check out any of his solo stuff or his post-Misfits band, Samhain. He has a really unique voice in rock/metal. Also, others have mentioned Metallica's cover of this song,also worth a listen. The Misfits were huge influences on Metallica and was a favorite of their late bassist Cliff Burton.They do a couple other songs as well, Green Hell, Die,Die My Darling. If you do get around to Danzig solo stuff,pretty much anything from the first 3 albums is great...some recommendations....Twist of Cain, Mother, End of Time, Blood and Tears, Her Black Wings, Sistinas, How The Gods Kill....

      Graves era misfits had some good stuff too, definitely different and I totally get why people may not like that, but its not all bad. For example, dig up her bones has honestly become one of my favorite misfits songs over time.

    • @eraigames
      @eraigames Před 3 lety

      I disagree with your assertion that the Danzig iteration is the best. I would say that the best iteration was when Michael Graves was the singer. By then the band were much better at playing their instruments (as stated by the guitarist in interviews) and they had dramatically improved at composing music. They also did a much better job layering their tracks in the studio so the tracks sound MUCH more polished. Graves is also a fantastic singer. Danzig improved TREMENDOUSLY IMO once he left The Misfits, but he wasn't that great of a singer when he first started out. In summary, The Misfits with Danzig seemed like a really basic punk band with a super green singer and The Misfits with Graves were polished, veteran songwriters with a stellar singer.

    • @balladofthebroken7569
      @balladofthebroken7569 Před 3 lety

      eraigames Glenn’s vocals on Static Age alone are by objectively better than Graves’ vocals on any of the Misfits projects & his later bands. Glenn is a true crooner with a blues and punk twist, respected by the likes of Roy Orbison & Johnny Cash (two legends he wrote songs for). The difference is Graves couldn’t sing Danzig tracks & it was shown on every live set. It seemed completely off. Graves even admitted he couldn’t fill those shoes. While Danzig could have easily done American Psycho / Famous Monster. Graves couldn’t do Samhain or Danzig solo especially. Particularly because those album’s foundations were built by Danzig. The lyrics, the imagery, even the fucking name of the band Danzig came up with. I still like Graves era & always have appreciated some of it, but after I’ve gotten older it’s become more & more cringe. There’s a reason Doyle & Jerry are not proud of that era. Doyle won’t even post on his Insta anything to do with 1995-2000 & in recent interviews has admitted he refuses to play American Psycho or Famous Monsters.

    • @balladofthebroken7569
      @balladofthebroken7569 Před 3 lety

      eraigames here’s a challenge. Take the greatest live set of Graves during the 90s era. & then compare and contrast that with Misfits - Max’s Kansas City 1978 live (particularly Danzig’s Blue Christmas cover).

    You have to be careful deciphering lyrics. The Misfits lyrics 100% related to old horror movies, death, etc. It’s meant to be slightly tongue in cheek or homage and not some actual manifesto for a crazed madman.

  • @jonnyyen7169
    @jonnyyen7169 Před 3 lety +3

    The lyrics by the Misfits are a joke. They are deliberately tasteless and controversial. Definitely trying to provoke a reaction. Instead of making horror movies they wrote and performed these songs.
