Making your own sandpaper? Well, we often take for granted the simple tools we use in our shops. In days of yore they blew sand onto paper coated in glue into tall silos. The finer grits went higher and the coarser heavier grits stayed low. Today's sandpaper is such a complex and specialized industry involving a plethora of resins and granules for various applications but, you showed that in a pinch, you can make your own. Well done, Miles! Loved it. Keep 'em coming.

Ok, I do visual effects for a living and I watched the handing of the sandpaper a few times on 0.25 percent speed. I figured it out. You had a stand and you placed the paper on it right? The paper looks like its layed on something for a moment.
Exceptionally well done man. At first I thought you had a twin!

At least you got some exercise, and a nice trip to the beach.
Beach sand is usually round grains, that are less abrasive. So a builders sand might have more bite. great idea 2x👍

Love your content. Fun info, longboarders make their own "grip tape" using a brush on epoxy and sand. It's a trick to have grip tape while still revealing the wood grain underneath (especially for bamboo decks).

Time to start sifting the same and see what that gets us. Also different glue types. Sandpaper uses a type of resin so I dunno could be a series

@@MakeWithMiles the first recorded instance of sandpaper was indeed made of sand, seeds and crushed sea shells. This was in China and was bonded to parchment with a natural gum. The type of sand used was specifically River sand due to the abrasive properties, normal (beach) sand has been smoothed down and as a result its not a good abrasive.
The first use of sandpaper in the west was using glass paper, the first modern sandpaper based on silicon carbide grit was created in 1920.
