- Hello! Here's a FUN Comedy-Mystery with Loretta Young & Brian Aherne set in Greenwich Village~A Night To Remember. I LOVE this movie because of it's many laugh-inducing moments...and...I LOVE Brian Aherne! (Loretta Young's great in this movie, too!)
I think Brian Aherne was a wonderful actor and seemed under-valued. I wish there were more movies out there to watch with him in starring roles. I know of a few, and will be uploading them for you--you'll really get to like his breezy ways, his Scottish accent, and all around good-guy charm!
Try this funny movie out for size--it's a great escape! Let me know what you think, ok? And please don't forget to Subscribe, Share and Support my Channel! Give it a Thumbs Up so I know you enjoy this type of Classic Movie~Thank you kindly!

Brian Aherne was such an underrated actor. He was so handsome, charming, and could do both comedy and drama equally well. To me, he was a cross between Cary Grant and Errol Flynn, with just a touch of the Marx Brothers. Lol
I absolutely agree!
Righto you are. An
And Loretta deserves the
Oops...Together they are wonderful. Loved your comment.
Ahern was more handsome than Grant and Flynn. Way more handsome.
I love these old B&W movies, I'm retired so I enjoy watching them regularly. Thanks for downloading.
Love Loretta Young, Aherne is his own special talent & charisma!
What makes these movies so delightful is the plot and the writers script. Amazing stories and characters are created with the writers words.
Yes!👍🏼
He is sensitive, that's why I love him🤣one of the funniest comedies I've ever seen.
_What can I say...just alot of fun😊 From Aherne to Young. From the housekeeper to the police lieutenant - even the background music when he's having trouble with the door - you find yourself smiling throughout the movie. After a crazy day of news, nice movie right before falling asleep_
You forgot Old Hickory, the turtle! Yes, this was a fun one!
@@wendybutler1681 You never know, Old Hickory might still be alive somewhere.
Wish movie mysteries were more like this. ❤️ this one.
Lovely old comedy / mystery with superb cast and plot. Loretta Young not only beautiful but a great actress and Aherne was a hoot ! You will thoroughly enjoy this !
Charming movie 🍿 thank you 🛡️have a wonderful day you and your family 👍10 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Agreed. Brian Aherne is so uniquely charming, and very talented. He has a sophisticated light touch in comedies, but is excellent in thrillers and dramas as well. Pleased to know that others continue to a appreciate him. And yes, Loretta Young is lovely -- as always! Thanks for taking the time to post this.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this Classic, Tina! (I’m always looking for more Brian Aherne movies for us :)
Love these old movies !!!!
@@pammcwhorter877 I once dated a very nice young man named Dale McWhorter. He lived on the Wagner Ranch near Vernon Texas. At that time, he was a senior and I was a junior. I’m 77 years old now and live in Amarillo Texas. I read in his obituary that Dale had died 3 or 4 years ago and I hated that so bad because I was hoping to get to talk to him again. Included in the obituary was a very nice picture of him. He still had those sweet dimples just shining. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
One of my favorite movie with nice blend of humor with mystery. Brian Aherne was as always very good at comedy. Loretta Young very beautiful. Their chemistry was superb. Other characters also made the story supremely entertaining. But I love Brian here like his other movies.
Many, many thanks for all the time you have spent providing all the amazing films for us to watch. It is much appreciated.
Dawn, you’re so very welcome! And I thank you for your very kind words. I’ll keep looking for more great Classic movies and add them to my Playlists for you to enjoy as I find them :))
What a fabulous film, filled with incredible actors, the beautiful Loretta, the incredible Brian Aherne who everyone forgets was English and could go with any role, then the amazing Sidney Toler who still sounded like Charlie Chan even in this film. Each night I go to CZcams and choose these films from the thirties and forties for they are light-years ahead of the modern utter rubbish in every way, from the writing, the acting, the storyline, the way that each word can actually be heard..... thank you so much for posting these masterpieces, and hopefully some younger people will see them to realise what great films were made in that Golden Era.
I do the same, search the 30’s & 40’s for something enjoyable to view. It’s called the “Golden Age” for a reason.
Many Blessings 🇺🇸
I'm a fan of Bulldog Drummond movies
I wholeheartedly agree. There is something unique about these films, and the way that they can be both entertaining & thrilling without resorting to swearing, needless violence or agenda driven plots.
Lorretta young she is so beautiful.
Her skin looks like satin ❣
@@badabing9143 you are wrong.
Brain Aheme, Loretta Young and the whole cast were superb, funny and overall entertaining. Everything works well, writing, directing and acting. Quality, keep them coming.🎥👀
wow! Loretta Young!
absolutely adorable actors in an absolutely adorable movie! Thanks soo much to all those who work so hard to bring these wonderful gems to us poor souls who long for the good old days of sweetness and morality portrayed, real or not! tHANK YOU!
As a fellow "poor soul who longs for the good old days of sweetness and morality portrayed" in the movies, I appreciate how you feel. I, and many others, do work hard to keep these movies alive :) Thanks for your appreciation, Cynthia! I'm glad you're enjoying these Classics!
one4allfour1 you are so welcome!! U deserve appreciation, and why keep bringing them to all of us who need the warmth that they keep bringing us! Year after year, if u don't get positive feedback from fellow film lovers! I have to admit though I don't watch any new movies, they are more depressing than real life! These are like my own comfort food! Thanks again!
Cynthia Marble
Hi! I am so glad you used the words that you used to describe these Classics… "Comfort Food"! That is exactly how I feel about them also :-)
And thank you, also, for appreciating and understanding all the hard work I've put into my Channel, here-- I needed it! I received a 'strike' this a.m. when a company from the UK decided to up and copyright, for a month, a movie so many here have enjoyed for 2 years.
We get no warning as "Hosts", when companies come in and do this. And we get no help--we get the opposite--from the Company here which receives so much ad revenue because of us. I'm discouraged since 2 more and I'm out--all my work for my viewers is gone--my Channel disappears. There's got to be a better place and way to host. I've so many more different 70 year old Public Domain films for you all to see!
On the one hand, it's frustrating that you often can't find the film you're looking for because they've had their titles obscured to avoid being taken down, but on the other hand, it's lovely accidentally finding lovely films you've never seen before on tv.
Great upload.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this movie! I often add more information (fun facts, the title, etc..) in my little intro to movies I personally upload. I hope you Subscribe so you know when I add or upload more Classics, then you won't have to accidentally find these wonderful movies on your own! I search almost every day for newly added Classics to CZcams and add them to my Playlists. If you Subscribe and click on the little "bell", you won't have to dig for them, since I do that for you! Just sit back, go through my Playlists, and click on a Classic to enjoy!
Thank for your comment! Have a "lovely" day :D
Thanks for posting!
A gem of a movie for a Saturday night blizzard in Maine 1-2 feet of ❄️
The old films make me happy to be alive where virtually every film made in the past 30 years make me wish I were dead.
Haha-for the most part, with some happy exceptions, I have to agree, Will :). Love these Classics!
i agree MANY modern films lack the charm and sincerity of some of the older ones, but there's been a huge amount of really good warm hearted films made in the last 30 years. If nearly all modern films make you wish you were dead, the fault is in you, not the films.Try watching them in black and white.
@@splitpitch don't be silly splitypoo
Just a fun movie to watch. Lots of action that pokes fun at a murder mystery. A lot of slapstick without any real violence.
A very enjoyable and funny movie. Loretta Young and Brian Aherne are great in this movie, they have great chemistry.
+Dave Erhardt I agree! Their Chemistry is obvious--what a fun script! I imagine they shared many laughs together, and with the fine supporting cast, while making this Comedy :)
Lovely tortoise! Loretta Young is a revelation, and great chemistry between the leads. Thanks for posting.
Lots of fun and unexpected. Some very witty dialog. Never knew that Loretta had such good comedic timing. And oh my, she is so very lovely.
A good balance of humour and mystery, nothing over the top. A great film with the wonderful Loretta young and witty Brian Aherne. Fab old film, thank you for sharing, from a old film fan.
WOW!! I love this movie too!!! Loretta Young is AMAZING!!! Great chemistry between the two actors and the pace is kept at a "city clip"; so its fun, funny and exciting!!

Movie Classics for you to watch :))
A wonderful movie. I still think Loretta Young was-is the most beautiful actress of all times.
I'm so glad you liked this fun movie. I agree with you about Loretta Young being an amazingly beautiful woman. If you watch any of her very early 30's movies (she started very young in film) she is truly breathtaking, and really adorable!
Thanks for letting us know that you enjoyed it!
OMG I cannot stop laughing, and this is the fourth time I have seen this terrific comedy! A true classic!
It gets better and better!
This is one of my all time favorite movies, has been for so long.
These oldies are a joy to watch. Besides the leads - a delightful supporting cast: Sidney Toler (Charlie Chan); Gale Sondergaard (Sherlock Holmes And the Spider Woman (was MGM's first choice for Wicked Witch of the West)): Lee Patrick (Effie, Sam Spade's secretary in Maltese Falcon) etc. 🙂🌟
Very innocently done and appreciated. Great acting. Not trying to instill terror to the audiences. Relaxing and invoked silly.
Always liked Aherne, yet never thought Loretta Young was even as interesting as seeing someone load a dishwasher.
Here's to the actors who had that something extra... and talent, too.
Paz y luz ✨️
Brian Aherne (1902 - 1986) first appeared on the Birmingham stage in 1910 and made his film debut in the British-made movie, The Eleventh Commandment in 1924. He went on to make several silent films in the UK and his sound movie debut was in The W Plan. His first US film was The Fountain (1934) with Ann Harding (1902 - 1981) an established star who had been Oscar nominated for Best Actress in 1931. He was an ideal leading man and over the years played opposite Madeleine Carroll (1906 - 1987) who was the world's highest paid actress in 1938, Bette Davis (1908 - 1989), Marlene Dietrich (1901 - 1992), Rita Hayworth (1918 - 1987) and Carole Lombard (1908 - 1942). Aherne was Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominated for his role as Emperor Maximilian in Juarez in 1939. By the late 1930s, he was getting star billing in major movies in movies such as The Great Garrick (1937) and appeared with actresses including Constance Bennett (1904 - 1965), Rosalind Russell (1907 - 1976), Jeanette MacDonald (1903 - 1965) and Merle Oberon (1911 - 1979). His last movie was Rosie in 1967 - it was a flop.
Thank you so much for putting together and sharing this Brian Aherne filmography with us-much appreciated, Russell!👋🏼
(I’d love to see his first US film!)
Thanks so much! I actually doubt if his first film - an English silent film - still exists. Probably my favourite among his many films was Titanic (1953) in which he plays Captain Edward J Smith. I think that this Titanic is better acted (obviously it loses out on special effects) to 1997 Titanic and both were made by 20th Century Fox. I should also have mentioned that Aherne's first wife was Oscar winner Joan Fontaine (1917 - 2013) from 1939 to 1945.
Reminds me of my Grandma, watching old movies in her living room.
Movies that came out back in her day.
Many, many years ago.
I like this movie. I have watched it so many times.
I’m so happy you’re enjoying this movie!

Brian Aherne is underrated. He's very good at drama and comedy. Nice little film.
A wonderful movie with a great cast. And my favorite Charlie Chan, Sidney Toiler.
Yes, I like Brian Aherne too & i'm a big fan of Loretta Young too. I liked this movie!! Thank you.
Great movie. Loved the plot and Loretta Young. Thanks for sharing it with us.
You're welcome, Tooty2shoes! I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
A wonderful movie and cast. And my favorite Charlie Chan, Sidney Toiler.
Loretta Y was a true beauty a talented actress and a real traditional Catholic!
Really good movie with great cast and suspense! I usually don't like Loretta Young but I enjoyed her act in this one.
A great example of a great genre, the comedy mystery. Much of the credit goes to the setting, a wonderful basement apartment in Greenwich Village (once a speakeasy, no less).
The actor playing inspector Hankins, is Sidney Toler, better known for starring as Charlie Chan in 22 films.
You find the best movies, thank you
Crushing on Brian Aherne. Love the women's hats; it's all too much fun.
WOW!!! Awesome! So much awesomeness! First level of awesomeness - great fun to see the character actors such as Sidney Toler, Dale MacBride, Lee Patrick, George Chandler, Ralph Peters and the others that one recognizes from other films of this period. Second level of awesomeness, good writing, snappy dialogue reminiscent of the films of the 30s. Third level of awesomeness- the great style of the sets and costumes. And the awesomeness that permeates the whole movie is the performances of the players!
What a creative and surprising (in a very good way!) summation of this Classic Movie! I’m “pinning” your movie review on top so everyone can read your comment!
Thanks so much for taking the time to let us all know what you thought of this Classic :))
Ah hah! I knew that was charlie chan! This was a fantastic film, cast, production etc... i wish they still made these types of fun murder mysteries!
Loved it. Cannot believe I have never watched this one. Had some good laughs. Love Loretta and Brian together. Great old movie. Don't make em like this anymore.
So glad you enjoyed this Classic! It’s one of my all-time favorites, too☺️
It's the best of Classic, thanks to Brian Aherne, and Loretta Young..........
I so agree! Two really wonderful actors supported by great character actors, a fun script and great sets equal a welcomed escape from the cares of the world...for a time :))
Great movie. Love the old black and white films.
I did enjoy this. I've never seen Loretta Young in any film or video which I did love her, her performance and the entire experience; and, A NIGHT TO REMEMBER was not an exception. She and Brian Aherne created some great chemistry . And my what a wonderful supporting cast. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. During these trying times, I can use all the healthy escapes I can find. Wishing you the best, good health, safety, much laughter, many hugs, and as much happiness as you desire. Alice in SC USA.
This is a good movie to watch for a hopelessly romantic gal thank you I love it when the guy gets the gal in the end..
Always good stuff...thank you so much !
First, they moved in the middle of the night, then their house magically unpacked everything, decorated itself, and went grocery shopping.
Very very good film thank you

Excellent funny comedy thriller. Great cast.
Thank you.. very entertaining
That was so cute! A movie you can enjoy more than once!!! Loved it! Thanks so much!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Once in a while this movie would come on the t.v. I would always watch it.This movie is a keeper.
Wonderful comedy. Soooo funny, thank you. Always liked Loreta Young.
I had a lot of fun watching this movie, thank you.
I so glad you enjoyed it 😊
A wacky comedy in a style more English than American and often hilarious, with lots of funny details. Brian Aherne is stunning, funny without overdoing it, handsome to die for, very fair in his acting (his faints are a delight.)
I still can't form an opinion on Loretta Young's physique: everything about her is exaggerated, the eyes, the mouth, the teeth, is she really pretty or frankly not? In any case, she charms and plays deliciously. The two inspectors are to be pinned too.
Thank you for this excellent film in such a perfect copy.
😘
I love your delightful synopsis, Roger Maes! I’m so glad you enjoyed this wonderful Classic!
(I do understand what you mean regarding Loretta Young-“exaggerated” is quite the correct description regarding her looks, I think. Maybe this is why she stands out a bit more, and endears you to her, as an actress.
@@one4allfour1 Thank you for your feedback. "Maybe this is why she stands out a bit more, and endears you to her, as an actress." Well felt.

one4allfour1 Thank you so much! I certainly will.
A favorite. Thanks
Every one seems to like this film. Me too. Aherne is poised while being very funny, Young is beautiful, poised too. Gale Sondergaard, the most elegant spooky lady in movies, is one of my great favorites.
Great cast all the way round. Both Aherne and Young (in his second one) do beautiful faints, collapsing straight down, the way a real faint from a standing position would. I rarely see a good faint in movies, as they are usually a staged swoon. I was fascinated how the candle never blows out, no matter how swiftly it is moved. I wonder how they managed that? Lots of fun and funny stuff here, including a mis-placed, and relocated fuse. Love the actor who found it, but can't remember his name. Anybody?
Brian Aherne is one of my favorites.
Thank you!
+EllieMacVenue23 You're so welcome, Ellie! Anything with Brian Aherne is going to be great! ;D
Had to see it again!
HeeHee ;D I loved that you watched it again. When I love a movie, I re-watch, ad infinitum!
Fantastic! One of the best we've seen and we've watched our share. We laughed, not merely smiled, our way through this. Really so light and original. Loved them both and everyone else as well. Got to look up more by this team/writer/director/stars. Sharp timing, great soundtrack, atmosphere, the works! Thank you, one4allfour1!
I shared this movie at supper with neighbors that brought a simple ground beef stew for our enjoyment.
Then it was open face ice cream sandwiches on wafers, supplied by the host, a sweet dessert and just all around a nice evening.

Prayers for peace, salvation and relief to the suffering everywhere as I'm now sadly and quite suddenly reminded of the current events so horrific.
So, I'm sorry folks to go here. But when I think of how even simple pleasures that are taken for granted can be gone in short order from war, you have that sense of regret for any laughter, but keep the faith peeps.
Laugh today and be as happy as you can be for the simple pleasures we still can share.

They were a really compatible (and funny) acting team :)

I have always Loved Loretta Young. Of course, since I'm not old enough to have seen her movies when she was this young; I remember her from The Loretta Young show on TV. She still looked very young even then ! 💖 The awful thing that Clark Gable did to her is unforgivable ! The sweet child she had was a blessing (I think a girl) and Loretto was a wonderful lady to love and raise her. Children of rape are (sometimes unloved and especially since "Roe", are aborted.
Love the old time movies! ❤️. Thanks for bring them back to watch. Great actors. 😂😂😂. 👍🙌🏻
I love this movie!
love that opening theme....they just dont make em...yudda yudda.
Glad you enjoyed this theme, too! With a fun story and such talented actors and actresses "A Night To Remember" has stood (and won!) the Test of Time!
Brilliant comedy mystery, and with great actors, carry on............
Certainly :))
Delightful film, thanks a million for uploading this. You're right- I've become a complete Brian Aherne fan ❤
Oh, how I miss movies like this! Thank you soooo much!
Whenever I hear that title, all I can think of is the splendid semi-documentary about the sinking of the Titanic.
Delightful! And very cute. Thank you for uploading this. These old films had great plots and terrific casts. I'm sure they never thought in their day that these films would still be so appreciated in the 21st century. There's nothing like them today.
I agree, thats all I watch is 1940s 1950s & 1930s movies most nights
This movie sure is a lot of fun to watch I like each and every character in this movie with little touch of comedy in it
I must watch it again just in case I missed a part! just thought the Poppin on the first hour of this movie will be back with my final comment Tata for now🙋🏽
LOL....just Luv it!!.....the 40's...Greenwich Village, 13 Gay St......'lucky for some, very lucky for others'...That was a time when even the pah-handlers had class...Bohemia...and the Grand Daddy of the Purple Underground....and so Avant Garde that it was hipster ville...thanks for loading....a great comic 'mood' mystery ..
Thank you so much for your fun comment ;D
I'm so glad to hear that you liked this film, and for the reasons you mentioned!
Stan, I'm reading a novel written in the late 1800s. I'm finding that Paris was the origin of the "Bohemian" movement. And it seems to me it truly was a "movement"!
Before this movement, women did not walk on the street alone (if she did, she was considered "working"...if you know what I mean.) Women were always escorted by a family member--preferably a man--everywhere they went. Women did not meet a man without a proper introduction, which included a man being known by a trusted family member or friend who could vouch for his character/ and only met in the young lady's home or hotel! And women never entered a man's rooms, had dinner alone with a man, or had secret rendezvous!
So many other Bohemian "improprieties" were imported to America from France!
It's actually making me a little sad reading about how a generation of Parisian "Student-Artists" re-educated young ladies, and young men into thinking mid-western morals, as well as protecting a young lady's honor and reputation, were unnecessary (what a slippery slope this actually became!)
Regardless, I think this film is a hoot!
Thanks for watching and for your comment, Stan.
Really good movie. Thank you so much!
What a fun movie! Brian Aherne is fabulous! Loretta Young is attractive too.
I so agree! I think Brian Aherne was such a wonderful actor! He acted on stage, screen, radio (my Old Time Radio favorite!) and television for 75 years. I love everything he played in, especially the movie, “Merrily We Live”-definitely one of my top 5 Comedies! Many other wonderful actors star with him also (You can watch it for free on Tubitv👍🏼🤗).
