- Restoration of a screwdriver. This time, this old and antique hand tool is being restored. Since you need this tool again and again, it is worth restoring.
▬ What did I do ?! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Since the wooden handles of this antique screwdriver were already very worn out, I decided to remove these old handles and make new ones. Which was also my first step. Then I removed the rust from the old screwdriver and sanded down any grossly damaged areas. At the far end, the old hand tool would often be hit with a hammer, which caused the metal to deform, which I got back into shape. Now it was time to polish the prepared antique tool to a shine. It took many hours, but I think the result is great! Now it was time for the tricky part, restoring the new wooden handles. From a piece of beech wood and a lot of time, I adapted the new handles to the screwdriver. But I didn't make it until the second attempt. Now everything had to be assembled, the wooden handles were connected with a slotted rivet, and the old tool shone with a new shine.
▬ Good to know ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
I found this old but also beautiful screwdriver in my grandfather's workshop. He gave it to me with the intention of restoring it, otherwise I would never have got it :) My grandpa is of course older and has many such treasures. It's always fascinating to be able to hold one in my hands. What is the story of this old object? Who was holding it in their hand? What clothes did the people of the time who owned it wear? ... I always find it exciting, not only with regard to this screwdriver!
Unfortunately, I couldn't find much about this old screwdriver on the internet. Except that it was made around 1930 and is called the "Perfect Handle Screwdriver". Do you know more about this piece of jewelry? Then feel free to write it in the comments.
I used the following tools: cordless screwdriver, angle grinder, file, sandpaper, steel wire attachment, hammer, punch, polishing disk, polish, countersink
It took me about 11 hours to restore, without the paint drying time.

Masterpiece ❤️
Thank you so much! 😊
I love this channel. Recognizing this screwdriver from the later videos actually made me tear up as I'm going through all of your content.
Thank you for making these, they have helped through some really stressful times. ❤
Oh wow! 🤩 Thank you so much for your generous donation and your great comment! I'm very happy if my videos can help you in any way, it makes me very happy! 🤩🐢
In this age of mass production, I miss the art in the tools. What a truly beautiful screwdriver. Good job restoring it
Thank you!
Seeing that beauty of a wooden handle makes me sad that plastic is so cheap and easy to make. I'd bet that handle makes the screwdriver feel great in your hand and just turn like a dream.
That's right. The handle is actually very nice in the hand!
Were I to find an old tool at a yard sale or flea market I could attempt a restoration to make it look shiny and new. Many of the old tools came to me through my grandfather and I want them just the way they are. The dings and scratches in the metal and the grease and dirt on the wood contain my grandfather's essence and they're beautiful just the way they are.
You do very nice work.
Love watching your videos. Some people don’t understand why there are masters of restoring who enjoy it. Thank you and say hi to 🐢
Thanks a lot! 🐢 🤩
Great piece!
Thank you for a very good restoration video.
Thanks! 🐢
Handtool Rescue would be proud.
Perfektní prace❤❤❤
If by random chance I'm ever anywhere near you, I want you to be the one to restore all of my Dad's tools. He was my greatest influence as a carpenter, mechanic, and all around "craftsman", and he left me many of his tools upon his death. I think you have a very sentimental value towards everything you do, and that's something to be admired and very much appreciated. If by chance I ever leave this place, I will, and have so far, taken everything he has given me with me ❤️
Thank you so much for this beautiful comment. Of course, this part has a special meaning for me! But I also find all the other restorations exciting. I always imagine how the people must have looked, they lived, dressed, who used these items. It's always a little trip back in time....
@@ForgottenShineRestoration I love that so much! 😭😭😭

Nice work 😄 You managed to keep the character of this driver I've done a few of these, myself, including a restomod 👍🏻🛠️
Thanks!
Very nice! What is the significance of the number on the handle? I have one marked 225. I see yours is marked 150.
I found your channel and came here because I inherited a similar screwdriver from my grandfather. They really do have the perfect handle!
Thank you very much! 🐢

I just found a perfect handle in .75 screwdriver bin at a junk shop...luckily mine has nice wood...those new scales look like a pain to make.. turned out good
Yes, replacing the wooden handles is not easy! I'm also sorry that I had to remove the old ones, but they were already very worn

Hello friend, I just wanted to know what made you want to start a CZcams channel
I love to make new things out of old ... why do you ask?
@@ForgottenShineRestoration well yes I know you love restorations, but what I'm asking is why did you want to put it on CZcams, (don't get me wrong I love restorations and builds and i greatly support those who want to put what they do and love on the internet).
I want to show people that it is worth restoring old and broken things and that you don't have to buy new things right away, because I have the feeling that you are throwing everything away too quickly these days. And I like to create the mixture with my hands and then cut on the pc;) i hope the Translation is good...
@@ForgottenShineRestoration the translation was very good indeed, and I like your perspective
that things don't need to be trashed immediately when they break or get old
@@ForgottenShineRestoration unfortunately I believe you are quite correct. So many today just throw old things away and buy new ones. And so many times the new ones are sadly lacking in craftsmanship and quality, both in manufacturing and in materials used.
The holes are not in fit with the pins of the handle.
This tool needed no resto.
Painful to watch your video. Your choice of techniques leaves a lot to be desired. I’ve seen these restored by a lot of others. Your methods could use some refining.
Should of left it alone, your rivets had gaps.👎
How to lost real soul of old tool....destroy all nice. This can do anybody. But why they didn't it ? Think about it,man.
I don't like it. Sorry...!
I'm crazy about your style of filing rounded metal parts. The forward movement of the file must be in combination of the downward movement of the tool handle. Not the other way around, as you do. My mom can do it better. And she is 73yo. It looks like you make it directly for the video record. Not with love with history. However, the accountant, without taste and respect for old things, quite a good job. You destroy the soul and the magic of the old instrument perfectly.
(I'm aircraft engineer on military aircrafts Mig21 and "A" grade band sound engineer in old, old, old Prague city. Older then McDonald's...and youtube, etc.)
Exakt den gleichen Schraubendreher habe ich vor Kurzem auf die gleiche Weise restauriert. Zufälle gibts.......🙂🪛
Manchmal glaube ich nicht an Zufälle 😏🤪🐢
