Spencer Strider Breakdown | How Does He Throw 102 mph?

- Spencer Strider changed a lot during his TJ rehab in 2019.🧐
Aside from getting stronger, going vegan, adding a coil & hinging significantly better, he made a conscious attempt to shorten his arm path.
My thoughts on why a short path worked for him, but won't for everyone and how the other changes he made allowed him to gain so much velo.

Ben, as always, spectacular work. Us coaches around the U.S. really appreciate having someone teaching from a science driven point of view. Takes the anecdotal coaching piece, not completely out of the game, as that can be valuable as well, but having a scientific mindset when teaching allows for universal language to set in, understanding increases, and results follow. If youth coaches, high school coaches, college coaches, and pro coaches can all adopt similar vernacular and teaching methods… I can’t imagine the type of gains we’ll make in the industry. Keep doing what you’re doing bud!
Than you Preston!
Spencer strider is amazing
Mechanics do look different, but biggest change I’m seeing is that he’s not rocking a stache at 90. Pretty sure that was the biggest change for the velo🤷♂️
Forgot to add: need strider on the tread podcast fasho
Love this comment, I agree it had to be the stache
He's one of only a handful of guys where his 100 looks 100. I mean, just jumps. Excellent mechanics and extension
Nice breakdown. Would love to see an interview with him.
Jesus Is King.!!!
Pitching ninja has an interview with him
you should breakdown yordano ventura next
love the content, man has some serious legs. Interesting to see the different methods of producing 100mph, but also certain things that need to happen. This is one of the best breakdowns yet
Edit: Yes please do that interview
12:15 < coil front foot
Point front foot back to second
When picking up front foot, tilt shoulders slightly downward
Glove arm point to 45 then bring back in
Work on his mobility, pec mobility
17:35 < need to stop the rotation of chest to allow for a whip/recoil mechanism to allow for the arm to whip forward
21:05 < prevent the lead leg from moving forward by keep rotating the hip which will straighten the leg
Very interesting breakdown. Your discussion on the energy transfer reminds me a lot of Colonel John Boyd and his Energy Maneuverability theory in military aircraft & warfare.
Omg. I had no idea how any of this worked until now. Amazing video
What an excellent deconstruction of mechanics pre Tommy John surgery vs now.
Great job , yes would love to see a interview!
Amazing analysis and explanation. Would love to see Ben interview Strider.
Jesus Is King.!!!
Strider interview would be amazing. Great breakdown
Yes! An interview with Quadzilla would be great! Thanks.
Fantastic Breakdown!
You made me stay up past my bed time 😈😈 will post notes tommorow
Thanks you for talking about deceleration!!!! 108 said you need to focus on it!!! It’s helped me! I’m up to 90 after 3 bullpens
Jesus Is King.!!!
Awesome breakdown, thank you!
Really cool seeing everything that goes into being a professional athlete. Loved the mechanical breakdown too, I think other pitchers have benefited from shorter arm paths
Nice breakdown. That inverted W is a huge problem for high velocity guys.
This helped so much
not the video we deserved but the one we needed
Great content.
Let’s gooooooooo
Jesus Is King.!!!
what do you recommend doing pitching wise coming off a back injury
Would love a strider interview
Interview would be sick
Man, I would like it if you could do a Shane McClanahan breakdown. He's one of my favorite pitchers to watch.
Jesus Is King.!!!
@@au8363 Always
please do an interview w him
Your pelvis is your director. You need to focus on rotating your pelvis and keep it facing your target at all times and get the ball out quick
Is it possible u can do a breakdown on Mike Fiers?
Shane Baz would be a fun break down to see.
quadzilla 🔥
Arm was still late at foot plant, so he needed TJ again.
Only 2 pitches but strikeout king
first we starting a streak
Streak Counter: 1
@@treadathletics damn. Well done
We wanted this
Looks like he overstrides quite a bit to get that velocity. Another guy who did that and had arm injuries was Tim Lincecum. I wonder if anyone has analyzed that to see if there's a correlation to guys who have needed Tommy John. 🤔🤔🤔
i dont think overstrides is the problem..the only correlation to guys have needed tommy john is high velocity and lots of innings
maybe nowdays starter should throw like jordan hicks(2024)
they should control their speed not full speed all the time
@@abs1071 Tommy John didn't throw high velocity, lol. If the stride is too long where is the arm, trailing a lot further away than a guy who isn't over striding.
@@abs1071 BTW Hicks blew out his UCL so that's not a good example to use, LOL!
33:38 The Quadfather.
Dylan Cease also has that deceleration mechanism. Spencer Strider is literally just a Dylan Cease impersonator. I like it though.
Isnt spencer strider walker buehler's evil gym bro twin
HAHAHHAAH YES BEN LISTENED BOYS
Ben is a man of the people
God bless tread
Bro I’m late
Glad he didn't use De'Grom. That guy turned out to be a mechanical train wreck. 😮
Wouldn't call him a mechanical trainwreck just because he's been injured. There are many other factors that can affect health such as body composition, overuse, etc. You can learn about his mechanics here:
czcams.com/video/cShWwxN0P98/video.html
And he’s a rookie😬
He doesn’t anymore.
please take off that thing you're wearing, it is awful
That background noise is horrible I thought I was going crazy. Please don’t put it in your future videos.
Philippians 2:10-11
King James Version
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR AND REPENT JESUS LOVES YOU HE DIED FOR YOU SO YOU COULD BE FORGIVEN ASK GOD FOR FORGIVENESS AND REPENT!🙏🙏 AMEN.!!!
The flatness of his FB is due to the axis and speed of rotation, would you say? Like he is getting true (or close to true) 12-6 spin with the axis perpendicular to the direction of flight? How is he doing this?
It's the axis more than anything. The spin rate doesn't really affect fastball ball flight that much.
