Great video.. liked and subscribed... I was considering the FX3 but was a toss-up between the FX2 as well. I ordered a 2018 Trek FX2 in rorange last week an waiting on its arrival. Hope I have as good of luck with it as your 3. Think the 2 and 3 are practically the same bike, I do prefer those fx3 grips an wish the 2 had them. One thing I loved seeing on yours is the bar-ends (extensions). I was talking to person at Trek dealer about them an How no bikes have them anymore (except road bike aero bars). Seeing yours I’m going to look them up an get a pair, will be the first mod on my bike. The dealer is installing a bag, bottle/cage, computer as part of a package deal with bike. What state are you doing Natchez Trace in? I’m from north Alabama and we have part of it here. Never bicycled it but have ridden my motorcycle on it. That’s my other biggest hobby (Harley Davidson) so you can say I’m all around into 2 wheels.

Hi Bob I keep coming to your video every once in a while for almost 4 months since it's the only clear review that covers The FX 3 in detail and I thank you for that, I've been at the LBS today with the intention of testing the FX 3, but unfortunately my size was not available so the salesman suggested to test the FX 2 and WOOOW, it was so fast and easy to handle my question is : Would it be better wait for the FX 3 to arrive or get the FX 2? my purpose is to work commute in pavement no uphills no gravel.. Congrats! That'll be a great bike for you. I hear you on the stock saddles! One of the first things I did was replace that stock saddle with a Brooks B17 Imperial. The Brooks is not for everyone, but I'm happy with it after I finally got it broken in.

I have two trek bikes.. one is hybrid DS1 with front suspension.. and the other is emonda ALR5 Road bike.. the DS 1 is more on mountain bikes and it can go anywhere almost, and it can handle rough train and bad pavement .. the emonda is fast, light and great for exercise and long distance riding believe me every type has its own enjoyment when I want to pick up some things from the nearby store with a lot of stuff I use the DS1 but when I go for exercise and group riding and distance riding the emonda is the fun

Be very careful on the road to Key West,traffic is kind of dangerous to bicycle on. I've done it. I have the Trek FX 7.5 and love it.Good luck on your trip.
Yeah, I am thinking about getting the FX3 for myself, but I cannot decide if I should get the disc brakes vs the regular brakes. And the maintenance of one vs the other.
Yeah I was thinking since I carry a lot of gear touring that having that extra stopping power might come in handy at some point. Perhaps on my future bike.
Disc brakes have a variety of problems and additional expense. An older bike salesman told me he thinks they are a flash in the pan, but since people now want them, that is what sells. I don't ever remember wanting more stopping power over v brakes.
Haha this is probably a great point. Perhaps it’s more of a fashion statement than practical use case. It’s hard to argue that v brakes are really simple and I’ve found them to be reliable.
Thanks for a great review. I am also looking at the FX three but also I'm considering the FX four. Is there a reason you did not buy the four? the four is a lighter bike but only has two plates in the front the three is a bit heavier the components not as refined but it has three gears in the front so might be better for hills. Thoughts?
Good question. I was looking to do some touring and felt the 3 ring would perhaps be better for this. In my opinion, the components and setup of the FX 4 was a bit sportier and a bit more road oriented. I was really leaning a bit more toward the light touring side so chose the FX 3. Not to mention the FX 3 was a tad bit cheaper as well.
I am a 65 yo, doing mostly bike trails. I'd say 70% asphalt and the rest hard packed gravel. maybe 20 miles a day. No really steep hills, but some gradual inclines that seem to go on forever :). $ aside, do you think the FX 3 will do? Thanks for the speedy reply Lewis
Easily the FX 3 will do everything you want. I switched over to a hard case H5 Bontrager tire just because I do mostly packed gravel, but if you are 70% asphalt, I'd say you could give it a go on the stock tires and see. If you start to see issues with flats, you can alway switch tires out later. That's my 2 cents :)

I was like uhh... I know it's mixed depending on how you feel about the specific measurement, but I just think having more clearance is always safer since not all terrain is flat.

Yes, definitely. I have the FX 7.3 2014 and that is a possible mod I will do in the future, but it would require to change the brakes and shifters, and the whole transmission probably... FX 3 can be modded to be like a cyclocross/gravel bike.
How come americans have no real fences/bushes surrounding their homes? Every neighbor can see what you`re doing from a mile away, no binoculars needed. Just from this video i can see inside the garage across the street, it`s ridiculous. Also, no trees. In eastern Europe the back yard is like a miniature botanical garden :))
Great question! I have no idea, haha. I believe that a lot of it is because in the grand scheme, we are such a young country with so much land mass that is only recently developed. As a result, builders don't poor anything into actually developing the communities short of building the houses, etc.

I think disc is the way to go if your budget allows.

How does it feel on incline climbs? Road bikes whizz up hill like nothing but I would prefer a hybrid.
Climbs great. A good mix of light weight and plenty of climbing gears.

Quick question, did you have to buy adaptors to fit these bar ends or they fit right on the handle?
Minor trimming of the ends of the handgrips, then sliding them back a bit to allow for the mounting of the bar ends.

Yeah back at the time when they transitioned from the FX7.3 to the FX3 they first only had rum brakes and later came out with disc option.

How would you compare the Trek 7.1 fx to 7.3 fx i seen the 7.7 fx but it out my price area but I like my bike have fun
I think the main difference is the components used on the bike. If you can swing the 7.3, it's definitely worth the difference in components for sure.
