- Very excited to finally learn the 2 axis proto trak. This thing is very capable for being an old machine. It’s been an uphill battle just learning the basics but I’m committed and it’s all I really want to do currently. There is something extremely gratifying about thinking up an idea designing it and making it. Especially when it fits properly.

I love the fact you’re still willing to learn from true professionals in different trades even with all your success in motorsports. Your humbleness and the fact you share all this great information with your community is truly inspiring.
As a Machinist here in NH i appreciate seeing you learn this stuff. Prototrax is great for one offs when you're on a time crunch. You should look into learning gibbscam or mastercam when you get your hands on a cnc. Look forward to more machining content!
Welcome to the world of machine tool. Realize going in, it’s about developing a way of thinking in multiple dimensions, not only for x,y,z, but to include setups, tool, material, machine behavior, order of operation, thinking steps ahead. All the things that come with experience, and separates a machinist, from a machine operator.
Like driving, it’s a collection of skills to be evolved. You got this.
Watching the machine cut and learning a bit in how it works for an older style is so beast! Keep it up yall
Thanks brotha. Just need to put the time in. The learning curve is currently STEEP!
That startup! What a gem
Fair play Ryan! Machining is a true art form and I love watching the guys I work with do it, I just stand there in awe of their work. Absolutely love this channel and all you do, it’s seriously inspired myself and friends to take on bigger projects on our cars
I can appreciate and understand how time consuming learning to machine is. When that first part your make comes out nice it’s very rewarding
Still my favourite CZcams channel to follow. Hoping to se another project like the Supra.. Best project documentary I’ve seen
Awesome progress with the mill man! Best way to learn a combination of Manual and CNC at the same time!
Learning how to machine is awesome. Super inspiring
Adding a drill point off to one side of the vice works really nice for tool changes.
So many cool opportunities in the motorsport industry!
Manual milling the past 9 years love and hate it😂
I just got a prototrak too! Gonna be making parts for Matt Fabb with it 😂. How you liking yours?
I would just plot the centerline of the tool, then you don’t have to worry about the offset, just draw it with the tool diameter you know you’ll use.
As a Metallurgical Eng I love this stuff. The printed Inconel headers Popidakis made were incredible.. Mind blowing fact... 3D printers are Version 0.01 of StarTrek replicators!
That is some cool info. Hadn't thought about that aspect of star trek. Pretty wild.
Glickenhaus could fund this place himself. Good partnership.
Superb
Add gas struts to your knee and a steering quickener ora motor lol
Programing conversational is a pita. Definitely look into a laptop control conversions that you can use a cam package with.
I did a quick search. There seems to be something. Just need to do more homework
programming the entire contour manually, line by line ... really takes me back to my apprenticeship days
but it's a good way to learn like that before you move on to modern machines, can't learn the basics properly with cad/cam solutions that do 90% of the thinking for you
I agree. Jumping into this seemed much more approachable coming from a manual mill. Still learning the fundamentals as well. Trying not to skip any steps as I progress. But the goal is definitely a modern 3 axis machine in the future.
@@RyanTuerck that MX2 can take g-code from fusion, I used to run one daily until we upgraded. When you are ready for that next step, im local and can help you if you want.
@@steveshepard That would be awesome man. Would love to figure how to make the programming side less time consuming.
@@RyanTuerck that's one of the reasons why a proper appreticeship takes 2.5 to 3.5 years. We start low, often at the bottom of the ladder when it comes to milling machines, lathes and so on. In my case it even started below a manual milling machine. It began with the oldest and smallest slotting machine the school had available (end of the 90s and the machine had outlines of a a ground down 'cross from the 40s' on the back, it was THAT old, fully on purpose).
The first time the Teacher did let it run as slow as possible so we could see it cut and roll single chips as good as possible. But before we were allowed to touch that machine we had to file down steel for hours...
You're doing it right Ryan, step by step, starting close from the bottom of the ladder is the proper way.
fuk yeah boi!! all about that shit
So can the end mill switch between Cartesian and polar coordinate systems for radiusing? Or do you have to input a function into the g code for a curve?
I’m not quite sure but I want to say yes. I have only manually inputted X Y positions to program the few things I’ve made so far. I believe there is a Cam for it but I haven’t gotten that far yet.
@@RyanTuerck I like learning along with you. I can smell that machine shop from college memories.
@@alanphillips4431 It def smells of smoking cutting oil haha. Finally ordered some proper coolant to manually spray.
Pete needs to be in more videos!
Haha he def does
❤
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️🔧🚀🚀🚀
Are you learning this to start developing your own parts for the sport? Or just to build cars more efficiently your self?
Both
That's awesome great progress bro
Need a haas mini mill in your shop, like 1000% easier and faster. I used a bridgeport at first but hope to never go back lol.
syil is coming in with some amazing machines at the same price point as the mini mill with way more features.
@@CruzinKrispy Thats great and all but the Haas mini mill USA made been on the market for 24 years now.. never had a issue. Can grab one for 15k easy and runs on 220v single. 10 tool changer. Just works and plenty of parts in market if needed... iv never needed.
what SAE of oil ? 5w50 ?
Ow 50 racing oil

Its hard to keep EVEN a cogged/toothed belt on when it goes from spinning max rpm to 0 in a second yanking the handbrake onto a skid. It can rip teeth off the cigged belt if it has the inertia to keep spinning as well.
Isn't learning a new skill fun?
Yes!
