Teaching my dressage friend to jump!

- After engaging my superstar dressage friend (Grand Prix rider AND dressage judge) Ally, to coach me on the flat, it’s now time to turn the tables! Ally was super keen to have a go at jumping (something she hadn’t done for years), & what better horse to teach her on than Diesel! Can a naturally talented dressage rider take to jumping with ease?! Will she be brave enough? Or ‘see a distance’?! Can she deal with short stirrups & ‘weird’ tack?!
Enjoy!!

i love how her jumping position is so good for a dressage rider, it must be her stable leg!!
its because she's got a really stable seat WHICH LEADS to a strong leg
i learned more listening to this lady for five minutes than i have with my trainers in four years xD
@Schleich Verča Truth hurts xD
I totally agree she brilliant at what she does and puts in a way you can understand so easy
Wish my trainer was as good as this! The second my horse has a bad day. Jumping goes out of the window for months. Ridiculous! But amazing work ally!
Emma Cressey are there any other trainers near you?
Naomi Juliana not without having to pay lots of money x
Oh! Sorry. I hope you can find one less expensive near you homehow!! 🥰
Can't you just ride without a trainer and go to clinics once a month? It's your horse, surely you can do what you want - I'm in the uk so maybe it's different where you live though!
Lili Eventing yeah that's what we do but I would love to start having a trainer help me
Who else loves the sound of a horse cantering around.
The leather mixed with breeches makes this ‘horsey’ sound 😂😂
Really show how important flat work also is for jumping she’s that good already because of all the flat work
@Nicole Gardner it's not all the horse, i think all horses can jump, so being able to jump high or do a dressage test isnt related for the hors
@@elliteequine3785 i mean, i used to think all horse could jump, but then i had one who Literature couldn't, not even witha very talented rider on top and we tried for years 🤣🤣🤣 complete disaster that horse, so now its doing fine in dressage, not the best, but not the worse.
@@TKDDLJ09 haha, i think that is a uncommon case most horses can at least jump over a log or something! oh well, thats why flat>jumping!
@@elliteequine3785 my friend has an old trotter. And she is seriously so scared of poles on the ground. I have never seen anything like it. Honestly don't think she will ever jump a fence either. 😂😂😂
I've been riding for 3 years jumper and shes better than me-
I’ve been riding for five...
iv been riding for 10
ive been riding for 9 and shes wayyy better than me..
and thats people why you should concetrate on riding dressage first
I think it is because she has a lot of knowledge on the flat which helps a lot
Loved this sooooo much !!! Definitely would love to see more of you both helping each other in your disciplines and the exercises are brilliant !! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥰❤️
Coralie Sentch stay tuned.... 🤣!!
She looks like shes been jumping her whole life😲👌
That was awesome, it's nice to see how that exercise was broken down and then built back up.
very interesting to watch! also very well explained, i even feel like i learned more from this, than i did the 2 years i once jumped. just shows how important it actually is to have flatwork! also VERY well done by Ally, she looks like a pro.
I love to see such healthy, well taken care of, beautiful horses!
I've been following Ally as a dressage rider on instagram so this is really interesting to watch ahaha!
This is so satisfying to watch! I love the way you explain things as well...I wish we had good trainers in my area like you.
This was brilliant! So glad I just came across your channel!
This was really good! I love seeing people be positive and have good solutions when working through issues of how to get a good rhythm and quality canter!
Really loved this! I haven't ridden in years due to financial reasons but watching you really makes me miss having lessons! I wish more trainers were like you!
PLEASE do more of these! I can't wait to see Ally teaching you dressage, you are just so fun to watch, she seems awesome as well! I would give my right arm to have a lesson with you! I might have a hard time riding with one arm, but it would still be a blast, haha!
And the rando dancing was 💯💯💯!
It was so much fun!! Literally had the time of my life
Outstanding! Super helpful commentary and so beneficial to watch the learning throughout this segment. Y’all rock!
Amazing as usual, such fabulous content!
such a great session! would loooove to see more of Ally!
Love the doggos joining in
This makes me miss jumping so much! I only did it for a few years in college and really only got to the surface level of jumping. BUT! Distances were always a one of my favorite things that I just seemed to naturally have an eye for. I couldn’t get roll back lines to save my life... but give me a willing horse and a wonky distance and I might even drop a stirrup for style. 🙃 Lovey video ladies! Definitely a new subscriber! I’m excited to try some distance/stride/pole work with my barrel horses.
I loveeee following ally on Instagram, she seems to have so much knowledge to share and she’s a beautiful rider
I would like to know which bit you choose for next time if there is a change for Diesel. She is so keen and capable and fun to see the fast progression. Loved to see how her seat changed as the lesson progressed and she got out of dressage mode to jumper in her seat. Fun. Fun. Fun! Hope there were cocktails post ride...
Your such an amazing teacher ❤️💗
AMAZING trainer! Great job!! Wish mine was as good as you!
loved the video. so motivational!
Ahh this was epic 🎉 love it keep em coming 🙏😉
This was fun to watch!
I am loving the content of your videos, and have been doing the exercises with the two horses that I have to ride at the moment. One is a hairy traditional Cob, who hasn't done much jumping but I did manage to get to jump the top of the barrels as a skinny the other day. Whoop whoop! The other is my own ex-racehorse TB who has Evented and show jumped plenty of times over the years, and jumps 1.15m no problem but always comes to the first pole of a training session as if she has never ever seen a pole before. So I am greatly encouraged by the behavior of your spooky horses, thank you.
Cressida Heath thanks for sharing! I totally nearly fell off Hughie about 3 times over the weekend due to rando spooks at shadows, the new poles, & then my jacket being blown off the jump wing! It’s keeps me sharp lol! Love your cobs effort over the skinny!
this is a really useful video even though i have been jumping for years!
I know right! I've only been riding and jumping for a little less than 2 years, but just watching this video makes me want to go to the barn and hop on my horse and practice what she said in the video!
I wish I had you as a trainer! You are sooo good at it and my trainer does nothing like this! ❤️
She did amazing 👏🎉👏😆
What I see is how dressage and dressage meld. The stride length. If ur not aware of ur stride length and have issues with it you may have an issue with bring the horse back into collection so it's helpful to know lengthen the stride and shorten it. Which jumping training can help facilitate. Also really emphasizing a soft, off the saddle seat, versus adding weight to the saddle. That's so clear in 2 point to 3 point to dressage full contact position and allows it to be broken down and kind of nuanced into a lighter dressage seat to a heavier seat that's imperceptible to the hooman eye. That's my take anyway, but I'm a horse with a walnut sized brain teehee.
She did great 👍
i love this !! can you please do a position lesson video xx
You are such an amazing teacher!!! If you ever decide to flew half way across the world and visit Denmark, i am so up for a training clinic with you!
You explain so well the point of the exercises and why they are important, which not many teachers do. Very intresting to watch! Keep it up!
Magic Books THANKYOU so much that’s so kind! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos!
It was so comforting to hear that even experienced, good riders get the urge to curl into the fetal position. I'm working hard to train it out of myself...not going great so far lol. Anyway great job!
You guys are so good to watch your content is real and honest
Plus it's done in such a positive stress free way
Do you ever come to qld. ? Haha.
Shes doing it pretty well! It looks so easy so you know you doing everything right.😁 I'm scared jumping just a bottle high.🤣
definitely trying this exercise!
I remember Diesel from the Taupo 3 Day Event 2019, and also remember you going for a swim in the water jump!!!
Now i want to move to Australia and train for you!!
Helpful video!
This just a great lesson that flat work always makes a better jumper haha!
Great jumps girl!
Hi everyone!!
Ally & I are going LIVE on my Instagram, discussing all the things we’ve discovered about the difference between flat for jumpers & flat for dressage horses!
Pls tune in & add your questions on my insta page @amandarosseventingfit
WHEN: Wednesday 10th June 2020 at 7pm AEST (Melbourne)!!
I love the horse
Such an awesome video!! Do you do lessons to the public?
it turned into a science lesson 🤣
My trainer always told me that if you want to be good at jumping you have to be good a dressage
Dressage to Jumping - Easy
Jumping to Dressage - Not easy
I begin with Dressage - Polo - Jumping - Endurance
Go Ally!!!
That is a HUGE horse holyyyy
im going to lay down 2 poles tomorrow and im going to try the strides thing because i have a really impatient 4 year old mare so i think this could really help, because she just takes al the controls if we are going at a dubble and i am little bit frustrated about it because then it costs me a few seconds to just turn her head so she will finely stop, so i think this will help. so thanks
I just loved this =)
wow im the first comment! I'd so love to. switch up my disciplines! switch from jumping to dressage!
I've been jumping for probably 6 years and still some of the things she said never occurred to me
I’ve been riding for 3 years & I do dressage too, I don’t jump
& my brother jumps he’s gonna teach me for a video
Look the horse at 2:50 pure horsie🥺😂
Wow 🤩
How big do you normally jump ?
Please can you do a video on How to properly ice your horse’s legs😻🤠
K this really helped me
Kato caught sipin straight musterd
Is anyone going to talk about how tall the horse is???
I cantered for the first time, Ally does need to hold onto diesels neck strap, it defiantly helps with balance.
She has been riding for years. Not to mention that fact that she is a professional dressage rider. She doesn’t need your advice.
Is trying to master the technical aspects of jumping on a horse who also has to learn, possible? (I can see a stride and ride a simple course.)
yes it is! i'm currently doing that with my lease! its a lot of practise though!
Standardbred Adventures I guess you have to concentrate on your basic stuff before you can layer certain technical aspects on top. For me, I love doing a simple thing really well, & feel like I’m taking short cuts if I try to accelerate things! The little things are just as rewarding I think?
Her position is literally perfect?!
She’s a professional dressage rider. She has the strength in her core with allows her to have a flawless position.
What breed is he???
What breed is he
She’s jumping more than I have in a year and a half
Wow! That’s great!
