  • Northeastern Nigeria is seeing some of its worst flooding in years. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed.
The flooding has been made worse by seasonal rain and planned water release from a dam in neighbouring Cameroon.
Lagdo Dam is in northern Cameroon and was built in 1982.
Nigeria was supposed to build its own dam to offset the excess, but never finished it.
So, what's been the government's response?
    Guests:

the issue is Lagdo Dam in Cameroon Causing
Devastating Flooding in Nigeria, Over 300 Dead
    Communities in Benue, Adamawa, Taraba,
Anambra, Rivers, Bayelsa, Nasarawa and other
states have also been devastated by the flooding
that has destroyed many homes and lives in Kogi
    state.
In 1977, construction of the Lagdo Dam, located in
Northern Cameroon began and was completed in
    1982.
    Initially, the Cameroonian and Nigerian
Government's had agreed to build two dams so
that when excess water is released from the
Cameronian dam, it will be contained by the
Nigerian dam which would be two and a half times
bigger and won't result in flooding
However, the Nigerian Government agreed to
construct the Dasin Hausa Dam in Adamawa State
to lessen the impact of any potential flooding from
    the Lagdo dam in Cameroon.
But regrettably, the Dasin Hausa dam has not been
completed since 1982 and this has led to the
    yearly flooding in Nigeria.

We are talking of 47 and 40 years respectively here. The truth is that successive governments in Nigeria from 1977 through to now have not done anything about our own dam and the citizens are facing the consequences of the lapses of these successive governments including the current one. Too bad indeed!!! By the way, in 1977, Nigeria was busy with hosting FESTAC 77!!!

Put aside man’s intelligence and understand Gods wisdom. His judgment is on all nations the wind, waters, fire, snow and earth are shaken. These are the Birthpains. Flee from pastors and sweet talking wolves.

Poor town planning. No Canals and relevant dams in place. Build also gutter with cover leading to other riverways. Why is no one telling the truth? The Cameroun govt. told the Nigerian govt. in 1977 that they were building a dam (completed in 1982) and there will be overflows every ten years therefore build a dam to receive the overflow. The Nigerian govt. agreed and never built the dam and canals to receive the flow, instead went about to celebrate Festac 77. Every ten years the Cameroun dam fills up and needs to be released. The reason the Nigerian govt. is keeping mom is simply that the contract agreement to build a counterdam in 1977 was not met and they cannot win a court case.

Urban and regional town planning is the basics of construction. Then the Architect then the Quantity surveyor then the builder then the Estate management team. Poor urban and regional town planning in flooded areas - With no Canals, dams, reservoirs, gutters with covers etc.
