Street Fighter III: New Generation - Ken [Playthrough/LongPlay]
    Developer/Publisher: Capcom
    Platform: Arcade
    Release Date: 1997
Street Fighter III: New Generation (ストリートファイターIII -New Generation-) is a fighting game in Capcom's Street Fighter series, originally released as a coin-operated arcade game in 1997. The game's name as it appears on the cabinet is Three: A New Generation of Street Fighters. Street Fighter III was produced for the CD-ROM-based CP System III hardware, which allowed for more elaborate 2D graphics than the CPS II-based Street Fighter Alpha games, while revamping many of the play mechanics.
Street Fighter III was followed by two updates: Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact in 1997 and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike in 1999. A single home version of the game was released for the Dreamcast in a two-in-one compilation titled Street Fighter III: Double Impact, which also includes 2nd Impact.

Man, how many memories from this game... I remember playing it a long time ago, in my teens, after getting home from school, for hours, in my old Sega Dreamcast. Good times!

Does it make sense that the first opponent is Ken's friend and rival?

Capcom here used the stage transitions (between rounds) popularized by SNK since early on... and eventually both companies got tired of that idea in the 00s and so on. That is a shame to me, because 3d games made the creation of stage variations so much easier, because of the 3d graphics first of all, and the ever growing memory capacity of later systems, and the longer development time between releases.
Those devs from the 90s who managed to make high quality stages for yearly sequels are monsters. The fantastic breakthrough of the fg genre in the 90s has a lot to do with their talent and dedication. And both Capcom and SNK happened to be filled with those giants, just in the perfect time. And they truly achieved so much for the genre with just their 90s tech.

Capcom had mastered pixel graphics with super fluid movement in the 90s. I wish they would put out more stuff like this still. Like a new Street Fighter in this style or revisit Breath of Fire or Megaman X

True they did, but that high quality direction in 2d died for Capcom in the early 00s. And their few remaining 2d works at that time never aimed to do anything ambitious... they werent even released on consoles anymore, just handhelds. Like MMZX.
And to be totally fair it was not an unreasonable decision, even to me who grew with the 8 bit and 16 bit generation. That ultra quality 2d was an unsustainable direction to continue being the "standard" because its naturally challenging in itself. Also many 2d fgs only managed to last for that long (longer than expected) because the genre was too popular in the 90s and it was more or less commonly accepted that they could reuse assets in sequels. Otherwise they would have made much less releases. And not only Capcom but a lot of other companies of course.

So the only hope for a new 2d MM imo is that its outsourced to a competent and ambitious 2d dev team. And they make sequels with different graphics. Not too radical but still different. And about BOF im more inclined for a 3d game with cartoony looks.

Unlike SF2 and some cps2 games, SF3 overall looks fine with these graphics filters. Some portrait and victory arts, stages, look particularly really nice.
