Should bought a Curt starter kit (shank ball mount with ball fully assembled 7500 lbs trailering capacity/ 750 lbs tongue weight) USA built and thicker metal, very robust.

Yes I did but it can be done without. It was just a bit cramped and more cumbersome so I cheated. Still works great.
