  • Taxila is known as the center of the ancient Buddhist kingdom of Ghandara (500 B.C. to A.D. 200). According to tradition, on his way to India St. Thomas passed through Taxila and preached at the court of King Gondophares at Sirkap city. It is now one of the pilgrimage sites for Pakistanis Christians. Thousands celebrate the feats of St. Thomas on July 3 at Sikrap praying and lighting candles at a three feet high throne. As one of the stories goes, St. Thomas himself constructed the throne himself.

I am Syrian Christian from Kerala, India. We have such beliefs that the apostle St.Thomas visited present day India through present day Syria, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. There are old sayings and stories about Gondaphorous and Panjab links with St.Thomas. We here in Kerala are the largest old Christian community in the world after Armenian Christians. We still believe that Parthian kingdom was the first Christian kingdom which was later destroyed by other kings and now no more evidence of Christianity there. May I get any contact details of the author so that we can convey some messages in this regard.

First mention of baptism in the New testament is of John the Baptist who was baptizing people in the river Jordan. The high point of his baptism was when he baptized Jesus. Baptism is for the remission of sins. In baptism we become new creatures having shed our sinful self; born again of the water and spirit. No one can enter kingdom of God without baptism. Baptism is for regeneration in which we receive the Holy Spirit. The below New Testament passages clearly mention it.
4 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. 5At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan were going out to him 6and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins 7When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducee coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath ? Matthew 3: 4-7
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?”
15Jesus said to him in reply, “Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him. 16 After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened [for him], and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove [and] coming upon him. Matthew 3: 14-16
Jesus answered, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. John 3:5
22Now, why delay? Get up and have yourself baptized and your sins washed away, calling upon his name.’ Acts 22:16
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
13 You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. Colossians 2:12
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:15-17
5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, Titus 3:5
15 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:13
3Or are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. Romans 6:3-4

I don't believe it, either. It wasn't Hebrew practice, or Biblical practice, but Roman practice, after they infiltrated the group.
