- In the UK, any new driver will be tested for their Hazard Perception as part of their driving Theory Test. Hazard Perception, or the ability to identify hazards, is an essential skill when driving as we will have to react to hazards almost every time we drive. In this video, we will help you spot hazards in real life, and understand the difference between a potential hazard and a developing hazard - as this will help you pass your Theory Test, and be a safer driver on the road.

Hi can you tell me one thing how many clips we need to do in one video ?
Thank you for the video it's very helpful
In clip 4 at 4 seconds how not a hazzard?
@@abdurrahmansidat5814 The lads walking across the road were a potential hazard, but they didn't force us to do anything - so they weren't a 'developing hazard' that would score any points.
Thanks, but i didnt understand it all its confusing i failed my theory test two days ago, when you click first its wrong, then when you keep watching the video the question disappear thats a zero, watching from dubai
I failed me hazard perception test, apparently clicking each time I saw an Audi was not what they where looking for.
Or a Fiat, Citroen, Nissan Micra, Ford Escort or Mercedes 200D.
sirstan808 and any BMW
😂
When I see the Audi sign in my rear mirror, I think :
"Here we go again"
This was the hardest for me. Multiple questions was easy though. I used the official theory app which only had a few videos bit it helped me passing
Hazard test is completely wrong way to judge driving test, the timeframe for point 5 should be reviewed.
The Hazard Perception test is just part of the Theory Test, not the actual Driving Test. The idea is that the skills used here will be useful when actually driving on the road - after all the quicker we can spot a hazard the longer we have to deal with it safely.
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool did u really think he was saying it was part of the driving tesT? he clearly meant theory wtf
and thats whats scary about international drivers!
Thanksfor this video. Is a bit confuse to me to understand when is the exact moment to start the click not been so early...a bit confuse...
I don’t understand it though. In one do the practice videos the car was obstructing the road, how can you react so quick to it when you can barely see it? I feel like you have to click extremely early it’s a bit unrealistic
If you're watching on a small screen then it will be much harder, as everything is tiny. To make it more realistic, use as large a screen as possible. These are only our clips for practice - the computer generated clips the DVSA use are a little clearer possibly.
In that case you're supposed to click 5 seconds before the car needs to start slowing down. In the clip with a bus there is a 3 seconds delay. During that 5 seconds I'd rather look out for people trying to walk between the cars than concern myself about the car that may be gone long before I get there. I understand the definition of "anything that can make you slow down or react" but 5 seconds at very low speed is too early. The clip with pedestrian crossing is similar in that you're expected to click when the person started walking on the road far in front of you rather than when a different person approaches the crossing as you slow down - that person could see you slowing and enter the road right in front of the car (that they expect is stopping).
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool so at clip 4 at 4seconds is that no a hazzard?
@@asavlogsalltruthrevealed7483 Even though those people were in the road, they didn't force us to take action, so they weren't a 'developing hazard'.
I think watching this before my test did helped. Watched it a couple of times, then practised some on websites before passing my theory yesterday. Next it the practical.
I completed my theory test on Thursday. For anyone unsure of the hazard part, the videos are all cgi, good picture quality and move at a nice pace so you have time to look around the screen for Hazards. I found that when clicking 2 times in a row , about 1 second part when identified a hazard enables me to get the most marks. If you’re unsure what to click for , click on things such as parked cars which may move off / open doors, narrow streets, people indicating and keep an eye on road signs, especially on the motorway videos
Thanks for the tips! The hazards are definitely a lot easier to spot than on our video.
very useful tips
Amazing resource.
Not to bad I'll keep it all in mind as I'm doing so far so good 😆
Passed my test today with one minor and your vids helped a lot. If you've got a test just be confident and don't panic
Well done - that’s a great result! 🚙👍🏼
Advance Driving School thanks!
is it easy?
I always watching your videos. Its very helpful for me
This video really helped me on my theory test
cracking video, thank you
This Hazard Perception video saved me. Thanks a million fellas :)
thanks found it so helpful
This one is very good. I am from Romania and my Instructor always told me to focus on pedestrians and spot hazards on the road before something horrible happens. Laugh or not but on the first hours of driving he told me : "You drive like a fucking russian ". Now that I look back is funny XD. I took it without problems tanks to that man. Very good Driving Instructor. God bless him.
This helps a lot
This is the best driving channel on CZcams
This kind of test has just been added here in Belgium, thank you for uploading some examples! It won't be exactly the same (we have a multiple choice, apparently, and only 3 videos if my info is correct), but it makes me feel better seeing that I could detect hazards quickly enough.
Thanks for the comment - and good luck!
Very helpful thank you
Nice one
I love it
I can pass multiple choice easy with reading up on it as what I learnt from riding my bike alone and here as the hazard perception I got to train to pass the test so just be practical left
Thank you so much
I just passed my theory test 63/75 (hazard perception). Thanks man
Well done
Thanks for the help. I passed.
Thank you
I haven't even started my driving lessons 2 months early ....I'm already learning how to drive plus theory , hazard test and practical test I already having a dreams about it
Thanks
Love it
Wonderful video
I will be doing my HGV in a few weeks and have to do this. When I passed my driving test I didnt have to do hazard perception, just a basic theory. Been driving 20 years now and the only thing that makes me nervous about doing my HGV test is this. Ive never had an accident nor had a point on my license, yet judging by this video my hazard perception is terrible. My theories are in about a fortnight so as soon as my practise material turns up I can see some serious revision going on. Thanks for the video, made me realise how completely unprepared I am :-)
Don't worry too much - as the clips they use on the official test are computer generated, and in our opinion the hazards are a lot easier to spot than on real video clips - especially when viewed on a small screen like a phone. As long as you can spot hazards in real life then you'll be fine on the test!
wow you have to spot it really fast, good to know
In a real emergency we would only have a second to react, so we need to click fast!
Many Police & Institute of Advanced motorists (IAM) (& indeed just ordinary drivers with a good few years under their belts) do badly on these test's as they look and respond to the potential threats & also consider there are more actual (developing) hazards than the clip IMO acknowledges. Really until the test centers have proper simulators with car seats, steering wheels & pedels, multiple SHD surround screens (with sound) & cameras monitoring candidates eye movments: the test is of little value.
Thanks for your comment. I found that I always clicked to early when practicing for the real test - which was before any points were awarded for the hazard! To score reliably I ended up clicking after a second or two - but I shouldn’t have had to play the system like that to pass. It seems the real clips are more suited to inexperienced drivers and their level of hazard awareness.
Very helpful and well made video tutorials, thank you!
When are you supposed to click?! I still cant figure it out. I know I'm correctly identifying the developing hazard and I click throughout it as its developing 5 times waiting a second in between until the vehicle stops or the hazard clears, and I will either get disqualified for clicking too many times or I click once or twice and dont score enough. I just don't understand how this is marked?
Here is a link to the official video explaining how the test is marked: czcams.com/video/SdQRkmdhwJs/video.html
Thanks for your videos. It helps me a lot and I passed my driving in the first time. I watched all your videos and even comments that I picked it up for myself some important tips and my husband was my instructor so your knowledge was very helpful to me. Thanks again.
Well done!!!
Oh my,scored 0 on all of the 5 videos.Have my test in 3 hours
Have my theory test thought I'd watch your videos to help me a bit get a better idea as I could be doing a lot better in the mock test app I'm getting on mock test but I think I could be doing better as it's only few points I'm passing by lol
Good luck!
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool thanks haha think I'll need it lol
Hi, thanks again for the really good and helpful video, my theory run out last week and now I've to do it again, I have one request please, if there's any changes in the theory test or going to be in 2019 , could you let us know please , i did my theory 2016
Really appreciate your channel 👌
There aren’t any changes planned for the Theory Test as far as we know - good luck 👍🏼
My actions in these situations would be the same. But I do not understand at all at what moment I am supposed to click the button.....
click when you see an audi
8:00 there are atleast 3 main hazards starting right at the beginning involving pedestrians on the road which would effect your speed so this is one of those videos which is wrong.
thank you this video help me understands
CAN WE PLEASE HAVE MORE VIDEO ON HAXARD PERCEPTION
Would you like more practice clips? If so, did you like how we did them? It wouldn’t be too difficult to make a few more if enough people want them.
Can you do more videis
Great clip and it worked for the test and I got a brilliant score of 41 of 75 today
Thanks - although it must have been more than 41/75, as that's a fail!
I know but anyway your welcome
@@delwalia LOL
Can you please explain me something? First video of hazard test , 4:54 we can see a developing hazard and you have to take action on it. Question. Why it is such a big gap between when you saw a developing hazard and when you acting to it? Basicaly how this worked for me. When I decided to act I wouldn't get any points at all and the person who was driving the car in the video acted same time as me.
Also 4th clip. The x3 guys crossing the road on 7:59 but you not take this as developing hazard. But later , 08:04 as soon as this man walks on to the road , you are starting 5 count for hazard. This guy even didnt look back yet - which indicates could be an issue. So as a learner , how to understand this? 3x guys walk on the road they are not developing hazard, but similar situation , the guy steps on the street and he is straight away developing hazard. I am confused now
Hello There, this is a really useful and helpful video, thank you for sharing this, it's much appreciated. Cheers Peter :)
Hey that’s bury st Edmunds..it so weird to see somewhere you’ve been in youtube don’t know why hah..you went past my brothers flat
My only problem with this is that I click too early and you get zero wtf I should get like more the 5 for that
Thank you for these videos as they are so helpful. I have recently started learning to drive again as I had stopped for a while due to failing the practical test a year ago. 👍
16.1 14.1 10.7 20.2 4.9
Ah this is juuust the video I needed, thanks so much
I'm so crap I'm clicking way early
One thing I always react to is how is not the blind spots behind parked cars not considered a hazard? Like in clip 3: We travel at 22mph, thats 9.8m/s.
If we react fast, thats one second. That means any car door or child running out behind a parked car 10m in front of us is going to get hit. Its beyond human capability to stop for them. And from that speed a braking distance is at minimum 5 meters. Meaning if everything is ideal: Everything 15 meters ahead is going to get hit. Thats roughly three car length! And in reality that can be much further if we even get slightly distracted.
This boggles my mind.
I surprisingly got 69/75 last time I took the theory!
What I have to do when I Turin my car and I’m 3gear 26 speed?
Without being there it’s impossible to say. I’m sure your driving instructor will be able to help.
Okay that was hard 😩
On the real Theory Test the video clips are computer generated, and the hazards are a lot easier to spot!
what's the high to pass the hazard perception
We must score at least 44 marks out of 75 to pass 👍🏼
I'll never, in a 100 million years understand why spotting a hazard "too early" is a bad thing
Exactly! That is the problem that experienced drivers have with the hazard perception test - we click too early and get no points!
Ikr! Like sometimes if you spot it early then you get no points as well as the other way around, as well as that if you wait for it to develop you get no points as well as the other way around!
I’m realising them way too late. I’ve been using the James May app and it was giving me zero for clicking at the time you guys say to. I’m very confused on how to pass this hazard test
Is this Chelmsford?
No, it’s Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk 👍🏼
Total i got 5 points..
Hi do u instruct in the West Midlands area? I would like to take lessons from u guys!
Sorry but we only offer lessons in Suffolk. Good luck anyway! 🚙😃
Where is this town?
It’s Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk.
Which app? Write name plz ...
“The official DVSA Theory Test Kit”
The scores point disappear to fast lol
Bury St Edmunds!
Since when a red light is a hasard?
Since it's unpredictable and forces you to take action.
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool hmm....maybe my understanding of word "hazard" is a bit outdated.... Yes, it is unpredictable and it forses to take action, but it's not a HAZARD... Tank God I have driver's license....
@@einarsilvansky3341 i might need to swap mine to British and after seeing this I really doubt that I would be able to.... my score was 0 in this video, although I have quite a few years of driving experience...
@@iampdv if you are UK resident you HAVE TO swap it.... theoretically. Most people dont. I personally done this to have UK ID , 'cos it's embarrassing to use foreign ID (in my opinion, especially my one) You don't need to pass any tests to do this, just order a form in DVLA and pay processing fee. If your licence is valid, they will issue a normal one in exchange for your foreign one.
Why does the point score go up then down
In real life, the quicker we can react to a hazard the better. So on the test we get 5 points if we react quickly, and gradually less and less the longer we take.
Please remember that the newer videos are all CGI, it can throw you off a bit if your not expecting it.
The only hazard you need worry about almost always has 2 wheels.
Forza Horizon 4
Can hazards be road signs ?!
Road signs can warn us about a hazard, but the sign itself can't put us in any danger so would not be classed as a hazard.
No not at all, you only have to click for the hazards that move such as animals as well as pedestrians etc.
How can I slow my car
Lift off the accelerator or use the brakes 👍🏼
Advance Driving School thanks u are the best
Doing my theory test tomorrow. I am fine with questions but I am afraid of hazard videos. Seems that I always click too early 😡😦
Good luck!
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool
Just back from it.
I have passed !!!🎉🎉🎉
And I got 65 out of 75 points on hazard videos. The ones in test centre far more easier than the ones I practised on app.
Happy days 🎉🎉🎉
@@sharkyyplayzrobloxyt any tips please?!
My score: 14
You score too early before you can even spot the hazard, a bit annoyed.
It’s tricky if you are watching on a phone that has a small screen. If watching on a big TV or in real life it is much easier to spot the hazards earlier.
I can't see the hazard properly is hard to see it on time on the small screen like a laptop. Only person would be perfect on this is the guy who made the videos, I think this is very stupid idea. You may pass your test 50 out of 50 and in the end you lose because of this stupid videos where you can't see the hazard stupid
I came here for Eden Hazard...
Well shit, i'm gonna fail then...
The clips on the official test are all computer generated, and in our opinion makes the hazards a lot easier to spot. Good luck!
Advance Driving School thank you very much, this has made me feel a lot better!
Hopefully they give me a refund when I’m done with it
alfred ndlovu would be nice if that could happen 😂
looks terrible. as someone with quite a few years of driving experience I don't think I can pass it.... I mean if I have a button instead of a steering wheel and pedals (so far my score is 0).....
Don’t panic! This test is quite hard as it uses real world video footage - but the official DVSA test uses computer generated videos that are much clearer.
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool sound reassuring, thanks) but still will consider getting european license before and if I go to the UK...
sorry..very confusing videos !! I have seen better
How on earth do you find this confusing lmfao😂😂😂
please do not get in a car
