Great work by you and the guys at Serif!! Now can you please update your course for version 2.0?!
Please let me use Korean, too
nice additions, but before you could move selected object very precise by using the arrow keys, now it copy's the object,is precise movement of an object still possible in some way?
I love how the aesthetic and functionality of these new versions give the software it's own identity.
Everything has a nice "Affinity style" to it. 😊
Still wish for IMAGE TRACE :(
I hope they add that in one of the next updates! 🤞
At this point, this is getting ridiculous that I am still roundtripping to Inkscape to trace bitmap.
This can't be that difficult to add, when you can literally take a look at the source code to see how it's done...
@@PawFromTheBroons correct. People been asked for this for ages. And to use graphics card power
@@AffinityRevolution I doubt they will..
@@AffinityRevolution let’s hope they don’t add it in the “next” *paid* version 👴🏼🙃
Thanks Ally, nice to see your smiling face! Great overview, as usual.
Thank you! Glad you liked the video. 😊
THANKYOU!!!! All Three videos are so appreciated! I love your Affinity Revolution courses as well...thanks for doing this for all of us in Cyberspace...love the updates!!!
Thank you so much! 🤗
Yesss! Thanks Affinity Rev team!!! You’re always on point!!
Thank you Deebo! 🥳
Thank you for this comprehensive video! We were one of the first ones to publish about the update :) I will be uploading son a series of tutorials covering Affinity Designer V2 for iPad wohooo! I love the new Shape Builder tool - this will be my first tutorial
You did a great job on your overview video! 😊
These updates are awesome. Thanks for the detailed videos! I hope the Affinity team will also create a Lightroom/DAM solution soon.
I hope so too! That would be awesome.
Thank you for making this tutorial... I am already loving the ideas I could create with each tool you've shown.
That's great! I hope you enjoy all the new features. :)
Thanks so much for this quick lesson on the new version update.
Thank you Rich! Glad you liked it. 😊
Really great new features, ! Thanks for the great explanations as usual!
Thank you! 🤗
I had no idea how great the update was! Thank you for your video!
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Awesome tutorial like always. Keep up the great work. Thank you!
Thank you! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Thank you for the clarity of your explanations, I am waiting for your next videos!
Thank you! 😊
Excellent update. I particularly like the Shape Builder functionality. 👍
Me too! Can't wait to use it more. 😊
It will be wonderful creating designs for the Shaper Origin. Designer v2 is a ‘no brainer’ purchase but I’m seriously tempted by the Universal Licence offer.
Same for me. I don’t want to pay yearly fee for shaper studio. Af designer is now no brainer for me.
Love some of these new features in V2. Thank you for your great video in explaining some of them. It certainly helped me!!!
Thanks Kathleen! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Shape builder tool is one of my favorite features in illustrator. Glad it has made its way over to affinity. Now I’m just waiting on that image trace functionality.
Personally, I don’t see myself using Photo or Designer too much atm as I need to improve my skills in illustrator and photoshop for when I go job hunting after I graduate, but I can see myself using Publisher a ton for personal projects thanks to studio link and the new iPad support. I hate having to switch apps when working in inDesign. Also, since I like to pack as light as possible I only carry around my iPad as my sketchbook and computer when I’m on the move. Publisher is the only pro option available.
Affinity Publisher on the iPad is really unique. I wonder when/if Adobe will get InDesign on the iPad. 🤔
@@AffinityRevolution Last I read they had no plans to bring it over. Hence when I heard that Publisher was in devlopment a year ago I got excided. I guess it makes sense as a cut down version just wouldnt be as usable as Photoshop and Illustrator are in their current forms.
Finally we get warp. ♥️♥️♥️
Yes!! I was so exited to see that! 😊
I'd say the biggest improvements in functionality were in Designer. They actually closed out about 2/3rds of my asks. The shape builder, knife, warp, etc. Now at a fundamental level they are really only missing selection to curve/auto trace and true vector pattern brushes (drag n drop to new pattern brush). I would love to see a vertical button bar for things like assets, stock, styles that you grab and then it closes it like a drawer like in Blenders UI.
I agree. The Designer updates were definitely my favorite. With just a little more work, Affinity Designer could really take down Adobe Illustrator!
Pretty sure they will add Vector trace in the future but for now they seem to be focused on making the programs work as one big tool easy to work with. Affinity suite is already very powerful. If you make your projects switching between programs will see how good it is.😊
Yeah a vertical pop out bar would be amazing for smaller displays. I find it a little tight to work in on my 15in graphics tablet.
Also wish they had an orientation button when creating a new document from a preset like in illustrator.
@@lego_minifig They have an orientation button. You can make your document vertical or horizontal if that what are you ask!.
@@carlosgraphic really? I didnt see it when setting up a new file so had to change the values manually. Is it only avalible after creating the document?
Very pleased to have got this update.
Some really impressive, time and sanity saving capabilities now added.
Thanks
I agree! This was a great update the developers made.
Great video, thank you. And well done Serif for a great set of new features in Designer!
Thank you! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Nice! I didn't see most of these improvements listed on the Affinity site and these are more impressive to me than what they showed.
Thank you! Glad you liked the overview. 😊
thank you for the update videos...! appreciate it...
Thank you! Glad you liked them. 😊
👍 Great summary - thank you!
Thank you! This is the update we've been waiting for. :)
I love all the new changes! Thank you😊

Wow! The way you're explaining things is even better than the software you're talking about! Superb!
Haha oh wow, thank you! 😊
Great overview! Looks great!
Thank you! 😊
Helpful video! Thanks!
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video. 😊
thank you--very helpful!
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Great, with the warp and shape builder tool there have been two functions added that i was missing the most :) Unfortunately no merge tool yet to transition from one shape to another in multiple steps, this would be huge for background patterns and more.
Yes! That's another great feature I hope they add soon. 😊
@@AffinityRevolution In v3 then 😄
@@N9O No -- sooner please - v3 will be another 6 years away!!!
What do you mean by merge tool? That sounds like something that's already possible with the shape builder tool, but I'm guessing you mean something different.
@@TimoKanal in Illustrator there is a merge tool - you have two different types of shapes, let’s say a straight line on the left side and a wavy line on the right, then u can „merge“ them and set an amount of steps. Meaning that you would end having 20 copies that are basically like images of one shape transforming into another.
This allows for a lot more dynamic backgrounds and controlling them to a high degree. In affinity you can currently only copy and paste or grow a shape to change its form. But even that is rather tedious if u want to have 20 borders around your object, with each evenly larger than the other
Thank you so much!
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Great video!!!
Surprised they still haven't added the "Live Trace" feature from illustrator
I was surprised by that as well. I hope they add that soon in one of the next updates!
I don't get it. It's cumbersome moving back and forth from Inkscape to Designer. I really do hope this feature comes soon.
Nice Video. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you liked it. 😊
incredible just bought Affinity V2 Universal sooo excited to play with it
Have fun! 🤗
Thank you senpai! ❤
Haha thank you! 😊
As someone who's not very good at drawing, I'm very much looking forward to using the shape builder tool.
Me too! 🤗
Finally a shape builder tool. been waiting that tool for to long. and style picker tool I think thats gonna be very usefull.
The shape builder is such a nice update to finally have! 🤗
Thank you for the video. I have a question. How do you do the quick grid for iPad if there are no arrow keys.
I don't think the iPad version has that feature yet, sorry!
No problem. Just wanted to know.
Thanks for the video. One question, can you export DWG from Affinity Designer 2?
No, sorry. 😕
Thank you!
You're welcome! 😊
Great video. How can I transfer my brushes and styles when I upgrade to V2? Have you had any experience and have any tips? Thank you.
Sorry, I'm not sure. I don't use custom brushes or styles... 😅 I recommend you ask on the official Affinity forums: forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/5-affinity-on-desktop-questions-mac-and-windows/
@@AffinityRevolution That's great - thank you.
The knife tool looks great!
`
It is! Great addition. :)
Thanks for the share!!!!!
Thank you Dennis! 😊
You've got to be kidding me, I just finished my logo yesterday I could've done with like half these features 😭😭
Better late than never, right? 😅
thank you!
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video. 😊
That is a great intro to Affinity D 2, I have a question though. I can not find how clipping mask works in the new version. In the previous versions, you could drag a layer underneath the layer on top. How is this working out in the AD v2?
Check out this video at 4:39, where I demo how it works in Version 2. 😊 czcams.com/video/PPNR4Xea9iU/video.html
Ally, thanks for explaining these new features. Does the Shape Builder tool render the geometric tools (Add, Subtract, Intersect, Divide, XOR) passe? I notice they are still prominently available in Ver 2. Maybe they're needed for backward compatibility, although I can't imagine why.
I actually still like using the Geometry tools for simple adding and subtracting of shapes. I find that the Shape Builder is faster for more complex situations, but I think the Geometry tools are faster for simple things.
@@AffinityRevolution I hear you! ✔😊
Great Update!
Thank you! Glad you liked it. 😊
Fantastic!
Thank you Nicholas! 😊
Wow.update and great video.
Thank you! Glad you liked it. 😊
Thank you for posting this, unfortunately, my computer is too old for the new version so good to see the new tools all in one place, obviously, there isn't anything in the new version that cannot already be done in the old version using different tools and workarounds but this certainly makes workflow quicker, one day when my computer finally dies I will upgrade, but also happy that I am not missing out for now anyway
You're right, Version 1 can still do these things (even if it takes a little longer), so no need to buy a whole new computer! :)
I have already purchased designer, publisher and photo for my MacBook and I love all of them. I wish if there was some discount for existing users if the wanted to upgrade to V2. I may upgrade in future. As of now V1 is doing good for me. But love Shape builder tool. Really awesome!
V1 is still a great program, so if it works for you, then no need to upgrade! 😊
I use A.Designer a lot, thanks for the news.
Thank you Alain! 😊
thank you 🥇
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Is there an update to 3D tool turning a square into a shaded box? Or bevel line into a 3D shape with lighting control
I don't know of any updates to that, sorry.
This is an awesome update!!!
It sure is! I was so excited to see these changes. :)
I really am impressed with how much ADesigner has matured in the years but the only area I wish it would improve in is the pen tool. Currently I use Clip Studio Paint as my sole source for my cartoon illustrations as its vector brush technology is par excellence. I would love to drop them as they are forcing a terrible subscription model down our throats now but man...Affinity designer just cannot compare in this specific area with freehand drawing and a quality brush pen experience. I pray that Serif focuses on that next so I can jump on over and support them 100%. As for my vector tool right now, and what I have used for all of my professional logo design work for the last 15 years, it is Xara Designer Pro. The ONLY reason I stay with it is due to the familiarity which allows me to get my work done extremely fast. This is a big dilemma for me though as I now see Serif continuing to leap frog past Xara with Affinity Designer. The thought of re-learning a program for my logo work where my time is critical just seems so daunting. I'm right on the fence with it. This V2 update has me so close to just purchasing it and maybe trying to cram a few weekends in learning it so I can wean myself off of Xara...BUT I'm just not sure it worth it. Still torn.
Interesting. I've only used Affinity Designer for my vector work, so I didn't know there were applications with better pen tools!
The shape builder tool really should be a hotkey to switch between add or subtract (hold shift while dragging or click changes to subtract). i'd love to see the scissor tool be separate from the knife, or to at least be able to click and drag the scissor tool as a straight line to get two unclosed shapes. but i think i could switch from inkscape to affinity just for it being so much more stable and faster.
I agree. A keyboard shortcut would be very nice!
Thank you so much. Just purchased and playing around with affinity designer. I was trying to change the perspective on a photo but it's not working for me. What am I doing wrong? I chose false perspective but it just erases the photo. I may have missed it in the video. Is it only for shapes and texts?
Hmmm... I can't get it to work on photos either. I hadn't tried that before now. Sorry, it looks Affinity Designer can't warp photo right now.
@@AffinityRevolution Thank you for your response 😊
Finally shape builder 😌
Yes!! 🥰
I love how they're reinventing and modernizing the UI. Really, it reminded me of CS2 sometimes.
Ya, the new interface looks great! :)
I rather liked the universal license. I installed Designer first and downloaded my assets, and when I later installed Photo and Publisher I didn't need to do it twice. HEX CODES! Yippee!
I agree! The Universal License is awesome!
Thank you so much for this, Affinity did a bad job of describing why i should buy it a second time, you did a great job, they should hire you!
Haha thank you! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Love it! Great overview, so many of these new tools will save time and make my work easier. It's a bummer that there is no discounted upgrade path for V1 owners.
I was surprised by that as well. Still, $40 is a great deal compared to Adobe!! 😜
@@AffinityRevolution to be honest 40$ for such a complete software is more than reasonable upgrade fee. 100 for a universal license across all platforms is an absolute steal.
I still think it is a great price for a serious Adobe competitor. Imagine I paid for V1 in 2016 and it has been updated throughout these years for only $39.99. I have no problem plucking down another $40 for the next few years of constant updates. Better to keep this pricing model than subscriptions.
@@gashumba888 definitely a good deal compared to Adobe.
I have both a mac and a pc. So I'm quite excited about the universal license! Otherwise it would be a headache for me to choose which version..
Good additions!
Thanks for watching, Trevor!
@@AffinityRevolution My pleasure! Best wishes from the UK
Does the quick grid feature support hexagons?
Yes, you can use any shape, and you can make a Hexagon with the Polygon Tool.
Is there vector wrap for ipad version?
Yes! Check out this video: czcams.com/video/7_3pynneYHU/video.html
Hello, I have a question. 5:47 the part of making second rectangle... when I press the right arrow, it just makes the first one moved... how can I make it work right? thanks
You need to press the arrow key *while* clicking and dragging, not after you lifted up on your mouse cursor. 🙂
So I am sold on the new Designer at least, i dont have a use for the new stuff on the other apps afaik. but my big wonder now is what are the features of v2 on ipad? does it have all of the desktop features? Shape builder etc?
The Designer updates are definitely the most exciting. 😊
And yes, the iPad version got the same updates. You can see the iPad version in this video at 7:26 czcams.com/video/EFqhU8lE-o0/video.html
@@AffinityRevolution Thank you! I had just found that video after making this comment. I totally forgot that Serif has a channel since I get most of my update videos from yours instead 😅
Hahaha - funny enough I somehow missed the warp... HOW?! Thank you for the video! Would be cool to see later on way to warp layer to a custom shape too. Designer is such a great software... I moved from Adobe immediately when 1.0 showed up on Windows and never looked back. I missed few things from Illustrator or Photoshop but I have found a way to get them done in Affinity. Thnak you for the videos!
Thank you! That's a good idea for a future video :)
Does anyone know if that warp feature is in the iPad version??
I'm not sure where it is on the iPad... I recommend you ask on the official Affinity forums. I bet someone there knows. forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/43-affinity-on-ipad-questions/
I dont know if i am slow but do i need to purchase Version 2 or is it an update? I already own Affinity Designer
This is Affinity's first paid upgrade. You can get the new Affinity Designer for $40, and then you will get 2.0 updates for free. 😊
Trying to slowly convert from using DrawPlus X8 (which I have used DrawPlus since X3) to Affinity Designer this video definitely helps. I still think there are things missing from Designer that DrawPlus has and I know Designer is not supposed to be a replacement for DrawPlus; but since DrawPlus is no longer support it feels like it is a replacement for DrawPlus. Hopefully over time the difference between the two programs will slowly be a non issue. Thanks again for pointing out these features.
Affinity still has plenty of room to grow, but it's getting better and better all the time. 😊
Dear Affinity Team, I'm really excited about this update. I just want to triple check. So the license I buy I can use in my main iMac (home studio), Macbook Air & on my Windows Laptop? My lifestyle now is more Mac oriented & I have to be able to work on any of the systems I have at hand. I also do content creation so being able to edit YT Thumbnails anywhere is a big plus.
If you get the universal license ($99), then you can use all the Affinity programs on all your machines. If you buy an individual license, then the PC and Mac versions are separate purchases. But one Mac license can be used on all of your Macs. :)
Has a text direction been added RTL such as Arabic and Hebrew?
No... I hope they add that soon!
I'm just curious, did Serif run a special course for educators like yourself to learn all of the V2 updates, so you can do these videos?
They didn't run a course, but they did give us early access to the programs. Then I played around with it and figured out how things worked. :)
Image trace and mesh gradient not found, and you have to pay full price to upgrade or the same 40% discount as new buyers...I'm personally only updating designer.
I'm really hoping they add those 2 features next! 🤞
Wait! Are you saying that 'Bitmap Trace' has not been included in v2.0? That's very surprising, since that's one of the main features of Adobe Illustrator, that Affinity Designer always lacked.
@@reactions5783 yup they didn't reveal that it was a feature. Inkscape has mesh gradients and the code is open source so there isn't a reason why they couldn't see how it's implemented there and bring it to photo or designer. I'm sure there's a paper on it too because it's available in other free design software
Question for you: Trying to decide to buy photo or designer. Often, I need to upgrade a low resolution image to a higher resolution image for my customers. Can I convert a low ppi to high ppi on designer? I really like designer over photo but am limited in budget currently. I can only afford one or the other for now. Your thoughts...
When exporting from Designer, you can increase the resolution. But really, it doesn't do much to change the appearance of your file. You're much better off using an "A.I. upscaler" online.
Whoa...Multiple outlines and fx copy!
I hope they included more export options for basic CNC work.
That would be great! Hopefully coming in a future update.
YES! Finally a knife tool!
🥳 🥳 🥳
I purchased the V2 suite, downloaded but none of the dmg files will open. How to fix?
Sorry, I'm not sure why it's not working for you. I recommend you ask on the official Affinity forums: forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/5-affinity-on-desktop-questions-mac-and-windows/
Been wanting a Shape Builder type function in Affinity, and that has really been the only thing keeping Illustrator on my personal laptop. I think I can finally stop paying adobe money at the end of the year.
That's great! I hope you enjoy your switch to Affinity. :)
Do you it is a wise investment to repurchase affinity 2.0 even though you can kinda do some of the same things with the O.G Affinity? I'm kinda thinking yeah for 99.00 for the universal license? just curious
I'd say it depends on how much you use Affinity. If you use Affinity just once a month, it's probably not worth $100. But if you use Affinity on a weekly basis, I'd say the upgrade is worth it. 😊
@@AffinityRevolutionAlmost daily
@@KendraM79 Then you should definitely get the new update! You will really enjoy it. 😊
Is some extra off from price for V1 user?
Unfortunately, no. Everyone gets the 40% off deal though. 😊
amazing
Thank you! 😊
Do you think they are going to make new workbook soon?
I'm not sure, sorry.
How do you turn on "Quick Guides" to duplicate the shapes with arrow buttons?
To use Quick Grid, press the arrow keys on your keyboard while you are clicking & dragging to make a shape, THEN release your cursor after your grid is complete.
@@AffinityRevolution I can't get the duplicate shape to work, Mac OS 🤷
@@mdex1 I don't know why that is. I recommend you ask on the official Affinity forums: forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/5-affinity-on-desktop-questions-mac-and-windows/
@@AffinityRevolution got it to work, its been a long day 😂😂
Vectorwarp is amazing! However i would be happy if it wouldnt crash anmore, when i type in the fonts box and when the AMD HW Acceleration would work. I am excited to see if this got fixed.
Hopefully they fixed that!
@@AffinityRevolution I used the trial version and its actually fixed :) So i might buy the new version... I am a little disapointed as i just bought version 1 a year ago or so, that there is no additional discount but i guess thats ok. And the disortion tool has lots of display problems (parts flicker in and out) for me but other than that the new version seems worth it alone for the acceleration... Even if i still would have expected that they fixed that for version 1 :D
@@j0schi That's great they fixed it! 😄
this update is amazing, I only miss mesh gradients now
Ohh ya, that would be a great addition! Hopefully they can add that soon.
About time Affinity is starting to sport features that Adobe's Photoshop and Illustrator do to make it smarter and more efficient. I can't comment about Publisher, because I don't use that tool. Getting my updated versions tonight.
Affinity is definitely woking hard to give Adobe a run for their money. :)
Very nice, got AF Designer 2 and might get the Photo, to replace PS, Im a "light user" and prefer one off buys rather than subs. Very good, $64aud for Photo is perfect for my use case.
I agree. I'll take Affinity's one-time-payment over Adobe's subscription model any day of the week! 😊
Are your courses updated for the Affinity Version 2 Apps?
My Photo and Designer course are already updated, and I will be releasing an updated Publisher course next week. 😊
I am a poster designer. But i dont specifically create any vector or shape by my own. I bought affinity designer V1 10 months ago. Should i upgrade to V2? Please help me decide. The discount will be ended on january 25. Please give me an advice its worth for upgrade or not since im not a vector arts or something like that. Just doing some simple design (but i adore V2 UI so much & also it will be a good thing to have long term continuity if i buy V2). Please help me decide since i have limited budget
Personally, I think Affinity Designer V2 is worth it. You get the Shape Builder, Vector Warp, the Knife Tool, and updates for 3 years! :)
I would be able to keep using the old version if I don't purchase this one? Great work btw!
You can use the old version forever, so there's no need to upgrade if you don't need any of the new features. 😊
At timestamp 6:00, can I insert an unique photograph into each rectangle? Will the program scale it for me, such that if I make the rectangle larger or smaller, will the photo be sized with it?
Yes, you could make a photo a child layer to each rectangle. Then if you resize a rectangle, the rectangle and photo will be resized at the same time.
@@AffinityRevolution Is this done non-destructively?
@@tkarlmann Yes :)
@@AffinityRevolution Is there a simple way to successively input a directory of files, then output all the files to the squares, one-file-per-square?
@@tkarlmann I think what you want is Auto Flow Images, which is a new feature added to Affinity Publisher. See this video at 3:38 czcams.com/video/qR6j0ioY64I/video.html
YES!!!!!
🥳 🥳 🥳
Update; I have found a limitation to the Vector Warp. The vector warp doesn't warp the vectors gradient fills. I used multiple gradients (in appearance) to add highlights and shadows to a banana and then tried to vector warp the perspective down to the isometric grid but the gradients did not stretch or skew with the vector warp. If you clip a vector pattern to a shape then that will vector warp but the gradient fill will not.
Good find. I didn't know that. Hopefully the developers can add that functionality soon.
Ok, shape builder seems like the first new functionality that seems worth a new version, although it was pretty much there already.
Ya, the Geometry Operations do the same thing, but a lot of people like working with the Shape Builder. 😊
Is variable font support added?
I don't think so, sorry.
@@AffinityRevolutionyes tried it out today. Very disappointed...
