Why do I feel so relaxed after watching this? 🙂
I really LOVE this channel. It gives truly original recipes that aren't just a copy of other things people have uploaded on here. I've always wondered what to do with kohlrabi, now I know (and it's in season here in the UK, in the markets) 🎉
Hihi, I am happy to be a German who didn't know that Kohlrabi supposedly has a strange/unpleasant taste. In our family, we even like to eat some of it raw. And thanks for that nice recipe!
I just started gardening and grew about a dozen kohlrabi. I've never tasted it before. I wanted to see how to cook it up an easy way, and I think I'll try your recipe. Thanks!
Enjoy and please let us know how it came out!
I’m in love with your descriptions!
Perfect! now I know how I am going to cook the kohlrabi I have. Thank you xx
Nice abd simple. I am tempted to try.
IMHO, you added water too soon. It is always a good idea to first sauté the root vegetables.... as we do the potatoes.
Hello. This recipe looks tasty. I just picked my kohlrabi and will try this dish for lunch. Thank You.
I grew these last year. And oh my did they grow like gangbusters! Yummy! I treated them like a cabbage. Which they very closely taste like. Also yes a potato. It's a cubed or slice vegetable. This year I'm going to try and use it is in other ways. I like your variation. I'll definitely try it.
Thanks.
Thanks so much for sharing this recipe with this unique vegetable. I can't wait to try it!! It looks so tasty!
You are welcome, we love the texture of Kohlrabi so much 😋 let us know how it comes out!
Please provide the specific spices in your “humble” spice blend.
Thanks so much, I just grew kohlrabi but hadn't tasted it before - really looking forward to cooking this up tomorrow for lunch with your recipe.
I ordered Panch Phoran too, it won't come in time for lunch though I'm afraid. :)
And - happily subscribed!
Warm regards
Jennie
You mentioned a five spice mix you added. What is in the 5 spice other than mustard seed?
Hi Brad, The five spice mix is called panch-phoran ( Black Mustard, Fennel, Cumin, Nigella Seeds and Ajowain )
Looks yummy, thanks for sharing!
Nice video, nice cooking. Love kohlrabi!
Ooh that's an interesting recipe to use kohlrabi with!!!
You can eat them raw too. I did that as child allot, for that grab the smaller ones as the larger ones tend to to "woody/grown through" where the root was. If cooked they develop a different taste then when eaten raw. I always use them in Vegetable Soup, just cut them up and simmer in a broth with other Vegetables for 45-60 min.
But i *need* to try this method here.
I love it raw even better. From the fridge, combined with a spicy guacamole, so refreshing and yummy!
@@schlurosaurusrex2827 All I ever do, is wash them, cut the tip off... and eat them as a snack or on the side with other food. They are crunchy, not to hard like Carrots... and they taste good!
That was really yummy, thanks! Unfortunately I took too much spice for only one kohlrabi but I’ll know better next time.
Thank you Happy Bellyfish for presenting a simple recipe and sharing. I followed your recipe with slight modification because I was lazy - instead of using ginger and garlic paste, I chopped both and sauteed and followed your second method - (... you can add everything and then boil). Otherwise I followed your recipe, especially cutting the Kohrabi into cubes the way you showed. I did not follow the duration of cooking what you stated. So it became a bit soft from overcooking. Next time I will not over cook it. It came out so delicious that I could not wait to add this comment of appreciation. I liked it. This will save my marriage; it was falling apart with complaint that I do not cook. Thank you very much. You gave excellent tips (not to add too many spices which will kill the radish flavor...), not just the recipe. Congratulations!
Thank you and I am so glad that you liked it and were able to make it. Its good that you modified the recipe , that is infact the best way to learn. I am in graditude for such nice words that you have written.
I find it yummy even after just sautéing it in olive oil till it gives a little water, then a little longer with salt till the pieces go just a little spongy, finally topped off with chili powder (to your taste). It has a curious sharp taste which I love both straight or with a keto roti.
Thank you so much bro 🙏🏻
Glad you liked it :)
Idk Srikant, if I see a grenade I'd probably be scared whether it's purple or green.
Jokes aside, great recipe. Tried it and it sure makes for a very tasty side.
Great video
Thank you Christine!
Does it taste similar to chayotte or chou chou?
hello could you let me know what all the spices are and where to purchase them..Thank You.
you can find the written recipe with all the spices names here: happybellyfish.com/recipe/kohlrabi-indian-recipe-how-to-peel-and-cook-kohlrabi/ You can purchase them in specialized stores, in Indian shops and often online (check on Amazon)
I wasn't able to hear the name of the 'humble 5 spice' combination you mentioned.
Thank you, I'll try this recipe as I bought a Kohlrabi. My grandmother used to sauté in butter but as I'm non dairy this seems ideal. I thought you had a lovely, calm manner but the scrapping of metal on metal, yikes, ouch I had to mute. 🙉
Does it taste like potatoes?
Not at all, more like a turnip or a very mild cabbage
Kohlrabi is delicious raw. I make a slaw
What is the name of the spice you used. You put it in the pan right after the oil. This looks great!
Yes. Please. What was the name of the spice and what's in it?
Its called 'panch phoran', consists of fenugreek seed, nigella seed, cumin seed, black mustard seed and fennel seed in equal parts.
What was the red spice? Looks wonderful!
Ground red chillies , I am using Kashmiri red chilli powder.
I make achari with kolrhabi. I let it macerate with coarse salt first and then after squeezing out the water, I add them to the fried achari spices 🤤🤤🤤. If you are acquainted with kimchi, I've also made a kimchi with it.
What were those black and white seeds?
A combination of mustard seeds, cumin seeds
Can we eat this with spoon ..? Means without roti or chapati only this
You can eat this as it is. But I believe that the purpose of a vegetable dish is to be a part of your meal and not be a meal by itself.
The style how you crushed ginger and garlic 🤔 I tried the same and my knife broke from the handle. Needless to say I got a lot of punch from my wife 🤗
I am sorry 😄, the pot in brown at the top shelf has a very weird nozzle 😁😁
Grill it... or make kohlrabi soup... or make stuffed kohlrabi...
,তরম curry of watermelon

Too much talking for a simple recipe
Yeah 🙄
That almost looks like seasoned potato!
If you'd like to increase your subscriber base and view count, you will need to cut the fat out of your videos. Rather than looking for one way to cut all the fat, look for many ways to cut a little fat. For example, rather than cutting the camera to your face while you explain something about what to do, keep the camera on the food being prepared and just say it then. Scrubbing through your video I saw so much of YOUR TALKING HEAD that I thought you were making a dating service video rather than a cooking video.
