As someone who has a phobia of public speaking, King George VI is a role model for his determination to overcome his stammer. His sense of duty was definitely passed onto the Queen.

as a person who stammers he is now the person I look up to
Why not? A stammer doesn’t mean he didn’t have great ideas and things to say, just that he had trouble getting them out. There are people without stammers who have other trouble expressing ideas.

As an American, I admire King George Vi, he stepped up to the burden and challenges it took to care of his country. He had to do it and despite his personal challenges, he overcame them and persevered. Truly a remarkable man and a great king!

A son with speech problems due to a tough violence father. The family saw no urgency in correcting and fixing his stammer simply because he is not the future king. Beside that they did not prepare him to be a king since childhood in many aspects. He never get to be a leader or used to it even within the family. Despite all that, surprisingly snd amazingly, he became the King over a night. Additionally, he had to deal with World War. For all these reasons, he did an amazing great speechless job.
Fine man and King. He took his time in his speech somewhat haltingly and I think effective pauses. You can tell he's truly sincere and means every single word. He clinches it.

When I was young, I was always told to not ask my grandfather about the war. I was around 10 or so.. I remember asking him - Why did you go to fight? And he said “I went for my king…”.
Being from Australia and a 90s kid, fighting for a king was something only I’d seen in medieval times or movies & it was a funny concept…
My pop passed away around 15 years ago, but his signed poster of the king was one for his & my nan’s most prized processions. I’m glad we still have it…
After the passing of Queen Elizabeth recently, I hope Charles will be half the man that King George IV was.

@@xplicitgoofy1015 it was the Soviet Union without a doubt however it cannot be denied that the support of his majesty the king throughout the commonwealth kept the free world going strong, definitely after Dunkirk where Britain stood alone in Europe.

I am from the Philippines and as I came to know King George VI through history books and film/TV portrayals about him, I became fascinated about his struggles and triumphs as a man and king. He is truly an admirable reluctant but rightful king.

Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert, the Prince Consort, also had wide set eyes. It seems to be a Hanoverian feature on Victoria's side, as well as on the Prince Consort's side of the family. The close set Windsor eyes came from King George VI's mother Queen Mary, formerly Princess Mary of Teck. Many of her descendants have (or had) her close set eyes. That feature is quite dominant in the Windsor gene pool, since she married into it. Her granddaughter Elizabeth II, her son King Charles III, his son Prince Harry, his granddaughter Princess Charlotte, Princess Anne the Princess Royal, both of her children Peter and Zara, Prince Edward, his daughter Lady Louise and so on. All have (or had) Queen Mary's close set eyes.
Edward VII, George V and all his children including George VI had those eyes. QEII also carried the look. Charles III eyes seem a bit more deepset like his dad.

King George VI was a great man. He inspired courage to the citizens of UK and would go in the streets of London after a Nazi blitz and help move rubble out of the way. Very different man than his brother Edward. Sorry he died so young.

Queen Elizabeth's II father! When you come to think of it she was a princess in that time and now she's dead, how small and insignificant us human beings really are. Rich or poor,kings and queens or simple subjects we are all the same.
Watching this film tonight again, I realized that the king's stammering is as big a mountain to conquer as the two dyslectic boys I have taught to read without any technical aids. Both handicaps are very paralysing. I have always been deeply moved by this film; tonight the coin finally dropped.

His story is ripped right out of Greek tragedy....a stern father, who himself was a second son, an older brother who was a weak and childish man, he became a great leader, dearly beloved

I watch this video several times so that I can understand what King George is VI is saying. It goes without saying that I am not a King. I listen very carefully to what he says. My impression is that he has a very good and accurate understanding of nature and the Universe, higher power and God. I am still learning. My thanks and gratitude to King Geroge VI for taking the time for making this speech and for my having access to watching it.
His disability made me think of others (in recent memory, Ivar the Boneless) who had personal battles alongside the world in making the most of it. A feat of admiration in of itself that I'm sure many disabled in some form or another can relate.

It would be nice to watch a version of this that didn't have the constant alternation between sound and silence, caused by the noise-gate. We can stand noise. If you must get rid of it, why not some actual noise-reduction instead of just silencing every split second that isn't speech and allowing all the noise through every time he talks?
Pretty sure this has HM's long pauses edited out, no? Even when he got better at speaking I don't think he was that comfortable with continuously speaking to not take several long pauses

It seems to me that there are so many people who live on this island of ours who need to hear HM King George VI's speeches, both at the start of hostilities and after VE day. I'm no monarchist but his words are so emotionally charged. Arguments about race/gender/politics/etc seem so far down the list of priorities in September 1945. The recent history of Britain is a story not often told in school. It should be!
