    Hey Papa Noob, I've been riding 23 years and still get excited every time i swing a leg over my MT-07! I've ridden all kinds of bikes from choppers to sports but this just does it for me. And saying fitting a full exhaust system to this changes the bike is a huge understatement, just last night i fitted a full Akrapovic to it and now its a whole nother monster. Praise be to lord Yam Amen

  • @JonsMotoGarage
    @JonsMotoGarage Před 5 lety +14

    My thoughts exactly the first time I mobbed around on one of these bikes. In some cases, it's funner to ride a "slow" bike fast, than a fast bike slow. Also, I think this is the perfect bike if you wanna learn dank woolies and you're getting bored on the Honda Grom. Wicked easy getting that front wheel up in the air, but not as gnarly/harsh as the fz09. Ride safe, bromano!

    • @JonsMotoGarage
      @JonsMotoGarage Před 5 lety +2

      @Aaron Fuchs I learned wheelies on a honda grom. There's still an initial learning curve and you have to learn the basics: clutch up, throttle control, rear brake, body position. But it's easy in the sense that the bike is much lighter and smaller than the others. I went from the grom to a supermoto, and now I'm learning on a harley dyna (ugh, that thing is a beast). I'm still a relative noob when it comes to the wheelie game - only been at it about 5 months. I buy and sell on the side and picked up an fz07 a while back. I couldn't believe how easy it was to wheelie compared to your typical sport bike and even some of the other naked bikes out there (like the gsxs 750).

    I love this bike. Had it for over a year, best purchase I've ever made. Ride it on the highway to commute to work every day, super comfortable at 75 mph. Can crank the throttle and hit 100 easily if you need to get around someone (it's a 4-lane highway so there's plenty of room in my case). Would def recommend as a starter bike for someone who's responsible and used to 2 wheels (I rode a lot of dirt bikes as a kid), or as an intermediate bike to someone with less experience on 2 wheels or with a manual transmission.

  • @adziuaoeu
    @adziuaoeu Před 5 lety +5

    I love mine. You did a good job with the description. My primary use was to make short trips around town for which it is great. A good addition for tripping is a windshield (I got a big MRA and I can recommend it). Without windshield the pressure on my chest gets annoying beyond 100kph, the windshield shifts that feeling to 130kph.
    Being inexperienced as I was, I though I can put a few sliders around and take it to the track too. I went for a track course on a gokart track and the first rounds were great, but I was quickly disappointed. Not so much with the wobbly suspension -- looking at Schaaf channel here, I thought, well... it's just gonna be more challenging. The biggest problems were: I could not fit behind the bars in the right position and the engine breaking was too hard on MT-07. I ended up renting the Ninja 300 and it was much better fit, although still too small. It unlocked the learning process, especially since I could push the limit and low sided it a few times.

    Beginner rider here. It was between the MT 07 or MT 09 for me. I knew I was going to have it for a long time so I was leaning heavy on the 09 but went against it in the end and got the 07. I have a 2018 MT07. I’ve been asked if it’s a Ducati as well lol.
    Coming from a GSXR 600 the MT07 flat out blew me away. I watched videos and many said that it was a good bike so I bought one and they couldn’t have been more right. YN hit the nail on the head, all the bike needs is a stiffer suspension and an exhaust and you’re golden. I love tossing my bike around town, but I also like it in the twisties. I have no issues keeping up with my friends with their 600 SS’ and I’m pretty sure they’re not taking it easy one me lol. My favorite part about the bike is the exhaust though. The MT07 sounds absolutely disgusting (in a good way). The thing just sounds so pissed off. I love my MT07, can’t wait to take it out when the weather breaks.

      Bunnyshooter 223 SV650’s are cool. They look bad ass too. I would have gotten either of the three (Honda CB500F, Yamaha MT07, or Suzuki SV650). I chose the Yamaha because the dealer was selling it brand new for $6,500 and the exhaust lol.

      im loving mine aswell, i need to invest in a nice exhaust. i will say after riding an r3 i cant see the appeal of the hunched rocket position of the sports bikes except for maybe escaping wind on a brisk day (shit KILLS my wrists). im loving the 07's chill riding postion, torque and maneuverability. only gripe on this bike is the engine harmonics in 3 or 4'th gear aprx. 5000rpm, she'll vibrate your hands numb after a while lol xD but thats most bikes at some point i imagine.

    On my Fz-07, I added a national cycle touring windshield made for a harley, a windshield spoiler, a quad lock mounted on the windshield, a top case rack with metal plate, a large givi top case mounted a bit back on the metal plate, bungee cords, and an airhawk seat cushion. It's a very functional vehicle. Most people think of motorcycles as a recreational vehicle. For me, it's basic transportation.

  • @Real_MisterSir
    @Real_MisterSir Před 5 lety +10

    The one thing I would do with the FZ/MT-07 if I were a Yamaha employee, would be to make a supersport version of it. I would keep the entire platform and engine, maybe slightly tweak it for higher top-end, give it a stiffer suspension, more focused seating position, and a full fairing set. Keep everything else the way it is. An entry level supersport like that would be incredible considering how light it is and how much potential the frame and engine has. I honestly don't know why there is not an R/07 already. I'd get one in a heartbeat.

    I own one its an incredible bike its sneaky fast stock. when you ride with a lot of people with different brands and types like I do you realize it's
    Better than bikes that sell for twice as much in many respects but very different feeling. I am a very experienced rider and have an intermediate road racing licence it's a dream on a tight road race track (a mile) and a handful for a super sport on that tight of a track where torque matters more than horsepower.The brakes will give up quickly and the suspension will too to a degree and it will never feel planted like a good super sport but that's because it feels more like a super motard bike than a street bike, it feels lighter and is just more fun than most bikes
    Same goes for a twisty mountain road and a mixed group of bikes beamers st's concours vstromes cruisers etc some of those bikes can almost keep up it just makes you grin the power is perfect and it will wheelie in the first three gears (stock) the stock computer is set for serious engine braking which is a dream on a mountain road as you can flow using just engine braking and throttle and mild front brake. That engine designer can ride.
    The forks have a touch to much compression and rebound damping which gives it a harsh feel the springs are a touch light for my
    220 pounds but my front tire sticks very well unless you push it really hard which is not a good plan outside of a closed course. It takes some getting used too it feels almost like a super motard bike with street brakes.

    Was perhaps my favorite bike I owned. I loved the light weight when I first bought it..I was laughing to my self when I left dealership thinking it felt like a 250 or 300 cc bike but with a ton of torque. I would love to see Yamaha make an FZ07 and FZ09 with upgraded suspension. Totally agree on the comfort, rode my buddies SV650 half faring model and I felt like I was cramped up like on a super sport. I am short at 5'6 and I could flat foot the bike in traffic. Other than the suspension my only other complaint was the small gas tank.

    I rode an F07 a while back. It was a hoot - I very much enjoyed it. My daily ride is an an FZ1 (Gen 1), I've been riding 40+ years. If I had an FZ07, I'd ride it often. Not first choice for a sporting pace ride with fast guys - FZ1 fits that bill - but the FZ07 is very, very good. And I like that red one.

    I’m likiely commuting 100 miles daily 5-6 days a week on a freeway. I have 19,700 miles on my 2019 model. I want to see if I can get some 50-60k miles out of it before I replace it’s engine. Or get a new one. I think it’s a good bike. At 25k miles I’m taking apart the engine. I would highly recommend this bike. Downside to it is that the suspension is starting to wear. Clutch might need to be replaced soon. You can feel the miles but you’d likely squeeze those 50k miles. Oh and I’ve never taken this thing faster than 85 maybe 90 mph. Best of luck

      No objections. 4 weeks ago I bought a 2018 mt 07 as my first bike. Never ridden before. I sat on it in the garage every day for about a week learning the feel of the weight and clutch. After that I practice for about another week in a no traffic area and slowly put myself out in traffic. It’s a great bike to learn on. Since it’s comfortable, you can practice for long periods of time all at once.

I do not claim to be an expert. If he wants to take advice from someone who has only been on the bike for a month then it’s his decision. If he’s old enough to ride, he’s also old enough to make his own decisions on who to take advice from.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris Před 5 lety

      There's only limited adjustability and it really comes down to your weight and the roads you're riding. It'll also vary by tyres and tyre pressure, some tyres at the right pressure offer a significantly higher level of comfort. Really harsh, big bumps though will normally be felt on many of these machines with more basic suspension. Also take your weight through the 'pegs if you can see the big bumps coming up, that helps a lot.

    it's really a very special bike, well differentiated and of course, the sales of this model already speak for itself, it is perhaps one of the most popular models of the last decades,.. because I think it, the 07 is a mixture of several concepts, .. a bit of a supermoto,... a ducateira ,... a yamaha dtr 125 r super altered ,. accelerator ,.. among other things ,.. where simplicity, together with a good and beautiful design, gave birth to the most beloved bike ever , especially younger people,.. when I go with my 07 ,. and I pass by a group of young people and they recognize it right away by the sound,... and then I start making gestures, asking to raise the wheel, or to speed up more,..lo,l lol kkkk, etc., it's really fun ,.. and above all it's an easy, accessible,.. and very pleasant motorcycle,.. and of course, very compact and light, agile,.. and very reliable!

    Nice! I’d love to have that bike, butt... let me just share a little bit of health information at you, just because I care. I am about 5’10” and 210 pounds. I have always considered myself athletic. Raced BMX AT AN EARLY age, mountain bikes when I was a little older four years of high school playing. Football, and wrestling. I feel I have always had a good diet, as I love vegetables more than animal based offerings... anyways, I never watched my blood pressure or smoked (at least not cigarettes. Don’t drink other than a bit of red wine. And as a side note, don’t do coke off of stripper’ backside (no matter how fun it sounds and, it really is) one night in November of 2017, after a night of debauchery, I kept falling down, and the last time I fell, I couldn’t get back up. Turns out, I has a stroke, and am now completely paralyzed on my left side. I can’t express how much it sucks ass. Speaking of which, I am fixing to have to go to the little cripple’s room which I’ll have to have assistance with (grioans). By the way, did I mention that being paralyzed suck ( it really does, don’t try it ). Take care., Bro’s, and never take life for granted ( it can all change in an instance). Love ya, Bro’s!

    Bear this in mind when you're looking to buy an MT-07. It is not a super sport and shouldn't be compared to one. It isn't a cruisier nor a touring bike either and it shouldn't be compared to one. What it is more of is a hooligan type bike, a naked in the "standard" family of bikes. It is made for fun, not racing, not high speed nor is it made for touring. It's a great bike for riding in the city and on back roads. It is light weight, nimble and quick under 100 mph. it can do power wheelies in 1st and 2nd gear. Clutch ups in 3rd. It can get very good mpg. if you stay off the throttle, modded or not. It's essentially a bargain bike that has flaws but with that super nice engine it will quickly make you forget about those little flaws, at least while you're riding with your big grin. Test ride one and if it doesn't put a smile on your face you're an F'ing zombie and should be shot in the head. >>> My 2 cents worth.

    This is my all around favorite bike for the $$ by far. Perhaps a better way is to purchase a used 600 cc supersport as I did, and modify it for a neutral ergo-position. I took a 600 cc R6 and raised the handlebars with a kit while shaving off 4 cm from the foam on the seat so as to achieve similar ergonomics as the MT 07 (FZ 07), yielding a similar feel yet with superior suspension and the rest. Fun fun fun with super-sport control and power, this may be a better option for those looking for great around-town riding as well as canyon cutting and track-day precision etc.. Can't go wrong either way. Older 600 cc supersports can be easily modified in this manner, so I'd advise any in the market to keep this idea in mind. Few do it, and that's a pity because the end result is a dream. My old R6 is a joy in most all contexts--mild mannered at low RPM yet a rabid beast at high RPM thanks to the inline 4. Food for thought. Best to all the riders as thoughtful as this fellow doing the above review. Squids and organ-donor-morons piss me off. Great analysis. Much appreciated.
