Yesterday, i felt like arranging Bad Apple, so i did.
It was quite random, i was just listening to an old arrange i made of Bad Apple in 2017 for something secret (you will find out eventually when said something is actually released...it's not up to me sadly).
But yes, while i was listening to my 2017 arrange of Bad Apple, i listened to Illusionary Sputnik Night from ZUN's music CD; Griomoire of Marisa, and i thought "hmmm...wouldn't it be cool if other old ZUN songs had those cool extended parts too?".
So, well, i figured it wouldn't be very hard to do, so i started working on it, it took around 11 hours.
For this arrange, i wanted to prioritize "remaster" for the first half, and "arrange" for the second half.
I really like the original song, but i have to admit that i am not very fond of the melody at 1:08, and thus, i also found it a little difficult to improve on.
Honestly, that part of the song is quite basic and even boring in my honest opinion, certainly not amongst my favourite melodies ZUN composed.
A lot of people would probably say "but Sylvy, it's the PC-98 era, he was still bad then", and to that i say...really? Some of my favourite ZUN songs are PC-98 songs, a lot of them have great composition.
Of course, i really love the rest of the original aside from that part, just a great Touhou song all around.
I tried making the song a bit longer by adding some new parts, messing with key changes, and adding a piano solo.
There's also some easter eggs hidden in the background melodies, pay close attention, and you might recognize them.
Also, i tried making this song more Marisa-ish than Reimu-ish.
There's 2 paths in Touhou 4: Lotus Land Story, it depends on which character you pick, the stage 1 theme will be different depending on which character you pick.
I always thought it would be kind of interesting to imagine what the music of Touhou 4 would sound like if each stage had like a "Reimu variation" and a "Marisa variation" of the music, this would definetely be the "Marisa variation" of Bad Apple.
I think if i ever made a "Reimu variation", it would sound a bit more eastern (the irony of that statement does not fly over my head), maybe with those cool saw instruments from her theme in Touhou 8...
This song was very easy and chill to work on, so i had fun, especially since i am working very hard on more difficult songs behind the scenes (i'm composing for 2 albums and 2 game OST's, consider joining/donating to my Patreon if you want to hear some of the songs early)
Also i drew Elly for the thumbnail, she's the stage 3 boss of Touhou 4 (this is not obvious for a surprising amount of people because of the popularity of the Astromo-something-i-forgot Records arrange of Bad Apple)

This genuinely sounds like if ZUN had composed bad apple yesterday. That's how faithful to Touhou it is. There's no greater compliment that I could give.

This left me kind of wishing for a version of this song based on that one cover of Reincarnation that Zun did. On the second part of the "boring melody," there's a part where you hold for a second, then go into the melody. There, I almost wanted a pop, like a boom-boom left jab right jab sort of deal. I don't know, I'm weird.
Really nice take on Bad Apple, though. I couldn't help but notice you might've taken some inspiration from the famous version of the song. I wish I knew how to articulate where in the song I felt like you did that.

That note at 00:22 after the five-note ascension being higher than the one before it also something that's in the explosively famous remix but not the original BAD Apple!! I'm not quite sure why I feel that it's a bad fit but certain occurrences like the one at 00:28 where it's played twice in a row (albeit with a little flourish between) contribute to that feeling the most.
Your take on the 1:09 section is great, though, it has just the right punch!
Second part is not boring, it's my favourite, after intro though
@ 1:09, ZUN tends to do this a lot with his music and I absolutely love it! Like it's a sudden shift of pace. But, as for the original and famous cover of bad appple, it's music. Sylvy can make it however they want it to be.
Finally, someone made a Bad Apple X Bad Apple mix (see what I did there?). Nice!

He is knowing for posting "rips" of game soundtracks. He includes the title of the game and song in, the version of the song (Ingame, Alpha, etc.) and a convincing thumbnail. Even the description seems standaed and cites the composer of the peice. But his "rips" are all shitposts, mixing them with other songs usually with a joke or theme in mind. Sure plenty of people do this, but it's usually ear rape. Siiva makes it a point in most of his videos to make them at least listenable. A lot of them while shitposty are unironically good.

This nails the feel of Moriya Arc "open-wide" stage themes really hard. Great as usual.
This rearrange made it sounded like a cowboyish theme with the Cowboy being a kid with a scythe on 1 hand and a gun on another while riding a horse and whistling this theme at the same time

Awesome remastering! I like the use of the trumpets, though that's probably just bias since the Touhou trumpets are probably my favorite instrument ever. The rest is still great though.

Most overplayed Toho song, but I couldn't mind less, this really manages to sound great and might actually be the best and most energetic version of Bad Apple i heard.

This was the first legitimate Touhou Bullet Hell I have ever beaten (and gotten the good ending on Normal or higher) listening to someone of such skill and mastery with remastering music go all out to recreate a song from this exact game only makes me even happier, great job on the remix and I can't wait to see more from you soon!

Most people that enter Fantasy Fandom know that Bad Apple and are shocked when they hear original and are "this isn't Bad Apple that I know"

Interesting work ! It sounds good, and the added parts fit in. Just not too fond of the little change in the melody, as I feel the original gave it a bit more nuance, but besides that, it's nice
