I did manage to find a few chests doing this, 1 of each color. Clearing each island takes a while though (no silver pocketwatch, and I usually don't start till after 12 as the morning is spent helping villagers and tending to animals) and that's not even considering picking everything up. It's also possible for an entire island to be a waste of time due to RNG. That's what happened to the Island with the blimp for me which was a fairly big Island but yielded no chests. Smaller islands are quicker to clear but have less chances to yield chests, and I'm not sure if it counts rocks that are underwater too especially the deeper ones which I couldn't clear since I don't have the diving helmet yet (been unlucky with getting it).
This success of this strategy is wholly based on RNG, and can yield really good results to no results at all depending on one's luck. It can be hit and miss where time is wasted clearing the islands that could be spent fishing, or catching bugs and critters or doing anything else or it could yield big hauls.
My first attempt was somewhat lackluster overall but I does work, it just depends on RNG. I'll give it another go next time as 250000 is rather simple to amass each week. Though I am wondering if it's necessary to pick everything up from what's cleared since that results in inventory problems real quickly even with a chest and hand trolley at my disposal.

You're right, it DOES depend on RNG, and admittedly I'm using the silver pocket watch.
Each time I've been the blimp island has had at least 3 chests, and definitely the rocks and seaweeds potentially have spawnable chests.
If possible, I'd recommend being as packed as possible the night before (Saturday) so that you can head straight to the airport, and definitely use foragable & Mining buffs to get through clearing quicker.
You don't HAVE to pick up everything.. I like to pick it up to know which areas I've scanned.. I try to do sections at a time for bigger ones.. For eg.. Grass first, and then scan. Then sand.. Scan. Then shallow water and scan.

@@AlexiGiovani Good to know that we don't have to pick up everything on the island as I was picking up shells and plants and seeds as well that I really did not need to pick up in the island reefs and that was causing inventory problems real quickly.
I suppose I could get into the habit of not fulfilling the requests of the residents in the town though I tend to do that every day and that takes quite a bit of time to complete. Same with petting, milking and shearing my animals. The rest I can leave for after I get back when it is late.
@@DeludedOne honestly I’ve been picking it up for said reason (keeping track of where I’ve scanned) but I’m also keen to taking home the hardwood, palm wood, pineapples and coconuts. I e also been collecting the flowers for designs and stuff back home.

Hmm. That’s interesting. I’m sure it’s said to have at least 1 and up to 3. I do recall coming out empty handed at least once. I’d have to look at my other comments to confirm
