We road to Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive in Virginia. We pushed our bikes to the max to see how they would do. It was all practice for us and a great time.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much. From my first video about the Goldwing I had a different perspective and I was bias towards the Harley-Davidson and was very one sided. Someone challenged me online with their Goldwing and said it was a better bike and I took offense and realized that maybe I should try one. As my videos progressed I had to admit things about the Goldwing and other bikes that made it scary to admit. A good biker will try other bikes out. I have owned several brand sports bikes and then realized that I had only owned one brand of Touring bike. So now I have a different outlook.

Just started watching your vids Chris. Since I was 16 I rode. 04ultra, 97dyna, 08dyna, 06dyna, 09roadglide, 17Versys600,18ducati1100scrambler, 99ultra (rode that to Sturgis from Berdoo, carburetor) and now I’m looking at a 21-up GW tour dct. Man I’ve been pondering it hard cause I have a Hd fam that even work in dealerships. I can get cheaper parts, services, and maybe a little off the msrp too! But I want that GW. So smooth and sleek and reliable! I’m not gonna lie, I feel like riding the HD is to impress people. Riding the GW is for yourself. I try not to care. But you know how it goes when you roll up on your HD vs The Wing. People look at you different. Plus when you wave at HDs and they don’t wave back cause they are disrespectful to other brands. What do you think man about all that noise when it comes to people? And what about your own feeling on that bike vs the glides? Stereo? Power? Cost of ownership too? I do my own services but the wing look hard to work on haha.

I will get another goldwing one day when they add a touchscreen. It was 95% perfect but no touchscreen and It was a deal breaker for me. Rides better than any other bike made, fast, smooth, and amazing. Takes regular gas and the maintenance schedule is less. More reliable bike. There are two major CZcamsrs who have hundreds of videos for the Goldwing how to do’s. As far as being an HD owner I think that you would still need to own an HD. You can never give up your piece of the American Dream and American Pie. Owning an HD is taking the good with the bad. It is an American Icon. On July 4th or Veterans Day riding with American 🇺🇸 flags on bike must be done on an HD. Cross country trip include stops at an HD dealership or several in each state. The dealer stops include motivation and a conversation with new strangers yet making a new friend just because they are also on an HD. HD ownership has allowed me to break down barriers of conversations that would never occur due to unfamiliar differences or stereotypes on all ends. H-D’s create peace and build relationships. All the t shirts and poker chips and dealerships coffee and staring at new and old showroom models. You will never get that from Honda when owning a Goldwing. Each trip on an HD is another beer story and another adventure. As far as the price. It’s no different than paying a lot for Gucci vs. Michael Kores or Nike vs. Payless shoes or Target. When you buy named brand it cost more. Same as Starbucks coffee or 7/11 coffee. H-D cost more and is cooler because of all the other merchandise it has. People don’t hang out at the Honda dealership or go from Honda dealership to dealership looking for shirts or coins. H-D also has the Harley Owners Group or HOG Chapters, riding apps and riding challenges and hundreds of pre route trips on its apps. Now also has an annual homecoming that is epic! You just talked me into wanting to buy a third H-D.

This is why in over twenty years of riding I never had the urge to ride with others. Having to stop off every hour to two hours defeats the purpose. My old 84 goldwing and I did 506 miles in eight and a half hours and it was smooth and comfortable. Keep your Harleys

I did the Skyline a few months ago on my 2019 RGS from start (Front Royal) to finish(Start of the BRP), 105 miles, loved it.
Could have suggested a great burger restaurant in Waynesboro VA called The River for a bite after the Skyline.
If you had had more time I would have suggested you go north to Staunton and pickup Rte 250 that is the most challenging 100 miles of mountain road I have ever rode.
On a different note, I went to that dealership in DC and was VERY disappointed, Im a Brit and like to purchased HD shirts and I was really hoping to pick one up from this dealership with the White House and Capitol building on it... Nothing, I asked them about it as I had seen old designs online and they said they didn't want to get political...WTF!!!

    • @ChrisGlides
      @ChrisGlides  Před 11 měsíci +1

@@freerider7064 I think that you could do it for sure. We can always play with other toys. I don’t think you will regret it if you get the one the will make you not have buyers remorse. Indians are prices the same as Hondas so that’s good. I think if a better GW comes out that you can certainly trade back up. For me GW is a bike that comes set to where you don’t have to put tons of money into and Indians aren’t either. I will buy another GW when they get a touch screen and maybe add some other technology which they will most likely do soon. I just knew that trading mine now held it’s higher value and I knew that I would want a better GW later. It’s the best bike not riding and safety but without touch screens other bikes are more easy to navigate similar things like what we do in a car. GW has more potential certainly than any other bike and I know within a few years they will continue to be miles ahead of everything out. Would be nice to see a hybrid or electric motor option, or one with lane and driver assist like a car. Self ride.

I tried to leave an opinion but it suddenly dissappeared. Here goes again.
I'm 76 years old, I have 61 years of riding experience to many places, i.e. here in the US and abroad. I currently own a 2018 Goldwing DCT and a 2018 Road King.
I was around back when the slogan "You meet the nicest people on a Honda" was being used to bring a more receptive attitude toward bikers from the public and when Harley Davidson was still known for it's oil spots, poor quality control and cross bones and skulls on black vest. Of course Hollywood did nothing to dispell the bad boy image. In fact they made it worse. So mostly we saw bad guys riding Harleys until 1969 when "Then Came Bronson" rode into our TVs on his XLH 900cc Sporster. Oh how cool, how can we forget? Thank you Michael Parks for a fresh hero that we could identify with. Sure, he won hill climbs and pulled it from the bottom of lakes but wow what a mechanic he was. He left us at the age of 77 and now rides that that long lonesome highway.
Check out online what he looked like as a lion in winter.
Ok, back to Goldwing or Ultra Limited? I've had of them both and they are two very different rides.
Harley builds on being American in origin and "it's a life style" attitude. They have lots of beautiful dealeships that drip with succes. A few not so good. My local HD garage is charging $190/hr. Ouch! But, most modern bike repair shops are averaging over $150/hr. for service. So, learn to do the basics yourself. The Harley does provide a certain feeling of belonging to a enormous group that shares similar opinions about motorcycles. Harley has made a lasting effort to enhance the reliability of their products. I too think they've made a lot of progress in reliability. I for one like the throb of a big twin at hiway speed. I'm old and no longer want to hang over the yellow line in the corners. They'r fast enough that's for sure.
My Goldwing is something from the next technology level. Do I need that, me? no way!
But if I want to cross six states just to get soemwhere and come back tomorrow, well, it's the Goldwing for sure. Let's be honest, I feel theres more dependability in the Honda but more of the intangible feeback on the Harley. Keep in mind there are more Harleys on US roads than any other brand, but according to Google, Honda is the US market leader with Harley close behind. Honda slipped in 2023 sales by -4.4% while Harley slipped -9.6%. I once thought Harley's air cooled engines were way behind. Aren't they? But change is in the air. The push on the larger electric mottcycles seems to have died. EV cars may be next since we're finally seeing some new concept engines that may not run on petrol.
Bottom line is, ride what makes you feel the way you did when you were 20 or 30 years old.
You know, like when we'd go out for a ride at midnight just to get the adrenaline rush and then get up at 6am and go to work. Weather permitting, we might ride to work. Yep, like when we really felt
"ride to live, live to ride". Hang on to that feeling as it's slipping away.
