- If you & your partner both work in the middle of the city, where would you rent a place to stay?
1. Rent someone expensive closer to work & small
2. Rent a proper 3 bedroom out in the suburbs & both commute?
In this video, I will share why my wife & I love staying in a 400sf studio in the city center: Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. It's definitely not for everyone, so here are the pros & cons & what we have to do to make it work:

Love your insights! In a glance, it doesn't feel suitable for me with such small space as I'm used to big spaces, but it sure did opened my eyes to be more efficient with space!
Understandable, we felt like the 7 min commute to anything we care about is worth the small space.
Yea actually we don't need a very big space ... nowday is a trend living manimalis home ... it is fun nice easy to maintain and do not have a lot of unnesassary things in the house and we do not have to be a maid or cleaner in our own house and we will have a lot of times for other important things 👍
This was a great video!!! My Husband and I just moved into a 400 square foot Apartment last Summer. We LOVE it!! We downsized from a 650 square foot Apartment to a Studio. No regrets!! Best decision we made!! We have Insuite laundry, are Central to everything and are blessed with Energy Efficient Appliances. So many pros! Couldn't be happier! 🤗 Glad you and your Wife have made it work too!! ☺️☺️☺️☺️
glad you liked the video:)
This was very informational! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us, I will definitely consider it when we make our move to the big city :)
Glad it was inspirational :)
Major love for this studio and its design and furnishings
thank you!
I’ve learn Something new today for keep my stuff, Thanks balkoni hijau!
I often cannot find studio set ups that have a dining space as well as a desk space. Thank you!
Happy to help! As mentioned in the video this entire studio is custom-built
Love the explanation! Most people do have unfavourable opinions about smaller living spaces which is understandable given how "cage homes" are being described for these smaller living spaces such as in Hong Kong or New York. The main takeaway I got is always to have a home that will give you peace of mind, which I can see having your home so close to your workplace can give you that.
However, I do think Malaysia's urban centres, especially in the KL region has not developed enough infrastructure (well-maintained roof cover walk paths, punctual feeder buses etc ) to sustain smaller living spaces that might incentivize people to use cars less and increase reliance on public transport. Which I think relates to your point of not owning and maintaining 2 cars or more per household.
One great example you have shown is the LRT being right beside your home, in Japan they actually minimize the train sound through train design or sound barrier around the train track, rather than the people around it bore the cost of soundproofing their own home.
All in all, I appreciate this explainer video to show smaller homes are not necessarily to be frowned upon, but I think KL as a city is still very unfriendly to non-car users and I hope KL can one day be committed to transforming it to become a people-friendly city instead.
Good analysis. For us, being close to cafes, restaurants & our work is supremely important & why we don;t mind the small space.
Thanks for commenting!
Cage home in Hong Kong is actually not suitable for human ... luckily we never have this type of thing in Malaysia .... infact pretty tiny shoebox apartment like in Japan and New York also we never have it here in Malaysia also cause i think nobody will wanna live in it and nobody wanna buy that product .
Best home preview I have seen.
thanks!
Really nice! Inspiring!
thank you!
I live in the suburbs too and HATE commuting. Thankfully, I found a fully remote job.
Love this sharing bro
Thanks Faizal 👍
Super awesome. I like the minimalist approach. Good insight of how you guys living there. I wonder hows' the baby setup looks like
thanks! we moved to a 3 br for the baby
Major helpful!
thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
Wow..menarik
Good
7 years in studio? Wow that is quite an impressive achievement id say
Beautiful house... my dream
Such a lovely little home! Reminds me of my colleague who lives in a studio home in the UAE. With time zone differences, he’ll always have to wake up earlier to speak to our team in KL. But since he doesn’t want to disturb his sleeping wife too early in the morning, calls with him being in the toilet is pretty normal hahahah😂 Despite that, we’ll always try not to kacau them too early in the morning (UAE time).
I love this studio to bits
nice place you have there sir
Thank you sir
niceeee
I need to learn from you how to keep and store the cook wear😂,
Very neat place, I think another major plus point is no maintaining fee/effort for garden/front or back porch, small house is really appealing for someone who don't like to fuss with cleaning. What is your future plan when you decide to have children?
I’ve moved to a 3 bedroom now :)
Wait what. You have another channel. I love Algorithm!
Your accent bro I’m impressed
Omg! So cute! I miss my studio apartment 😍 Omg! Your drawer is so tidy! 😱 Wow! Two Tvs! 😱..Youre definitely not a povvo 😂
first :)
I just found this video because I keep on looking at Pinterest for studio idea 😂 I rent studio apartment at Johor . But the studio near Singapore Ciq. They say studio apartment near to Singapore ciq is really CEKIK DARAH and it’s true 😂. Thankfully I got rm900 for studio rent which is a steal. I saw your other videos looks like you already move to a bigger house. It looks nice !! Pray for me to own my very home in future😊
Good luck & don't rush when it comes to buying a home :)
can you share the contractor that you used for renovation - kitchen cabinet and wardrobe?
I love this video something different than typical Malaysia property house review. Almost similar like a studio in Japan. Mind to share u prefer studio or 1 bedroom apartment? If studio is smaller but cheaper than 1 bedroom?
Now I have a baby, we need at least a 3 bedroom lol. But when I was single, having 1 bedroom is ideal
I love it! You did a good job. But did I miss the bathroom?
yeah i didn’t show it was too messy at the time lol
Plan to get one studio unit in city center. You dont mind share the property name?
Nicely done. How did you find your interior designer and did you do any work on your bathroom?
I found me interior designer through Facebook & Google. I had to sift through many & do proper office visits. Most are sketchy. I did not work on the bathroom. Only changed the sink & added medicine cabinet
Hello Sir, Do you mind to share the secure website that easier to find studios?
Lovely! How did you deal with the pandemic and more time at home together?
During the pandemic, my wife has to show up at to work & only I work from home. It was manageable :)
Nice video and apartment but Korean stuff are not crap
Been living in apartment room of 300-400sf.
Retiring soon and looking for a 600 SF studio or single room unit with a kitchen and laundry area in a low density apartment in the City amidst daily conveniences.
600sf sounds just nice. Not too big to be a hassle to clean
Please mention rent of this studio
hi sir. how about your laundry things and area?
I thought it wouldn’t be interesting so i didn’t include it. My bad. The door next to the soundproof windows is where the washing machine is. I hang on a retractable clothing hanger i drilled on the wall on the balcony
Hello sir! may I know how effective the soundproofing windows are?
pretty good. I got a video about the soundproofing windows here: czcams.com/video/_Pmia9HZ1s4/video.html
Hi bro. Is there a kitchen hood you have installed there? Ducted or ductless?
Ductless
Nice! May i know what windows did you get n the estimated price if you dont mind me asking? Thanks in advance 😁
Around RM7k. If you Google soundproofing windows KL, there’s only 2 options. I think both are good & comparable.
Here’s how I got them installed:

@@helmi_finance thank you! Much appreciated
8:12 that’s very foul sir 😂
may i know what refrigerator u r using? and its model. thanks
Don't remember. Samsung something. Bought at Tesco
@@helmi_finance rm1.2k +- ?
Just started working. Should i buy a studio apartment? This brochure i got says it starts from 230k.
Buying a property is a BIG DEAL. Please consult a proper financial advisor
I am single but I live in one bedroom apartment. So comfortable though expensive. Very privacy as well. 😉 but if you have kids, one bedroom apartment is not suitable, no place to put ur kids stuff.
I totally agree!
Like me, renting SoHo room like 3y now, which is for single men like me, are more than enough.
Total bachelor pad
How about your laundry area?
It's behind the wooden door
I can live w this coz I used to live in Hong Kong...
hahah is it smaller in HK? What is the acreage sf for a family over there?
@@helmi_finance ours about the same, 450sf. I imagine average would be around that. But they don't have big family. And it is common to see people prefer having a pet, than having a child.
too many population anyway 😁
how much the rent is for a month?
RM1k+ only
@@helmi_financewhat!!! Where 😭😭
boss you are very eloquent in English. is this scripted or impromptu?
I have bullet points, but apart from that, it’s freestyle
rent pls how much
The recording was so fast ... I had to stop watching
