    Roy Jones Jr is the most skillful boxer who've ever lived in his prime. To me, he is the greatest of the great fighters. Not only he had power in both hands, he also had mastered skill and strategy as well. History in its sobriete will agree with that someday.

Roy Jones however had mastered the science of boxing in general. In his prime no one has ever put up a real fight against him. He had all the ammunition in his arsenal and used them flawlessly. He rarely goes to distance. He can obliterate an opponent in an instant effortlessly.

      @@adfe05d83 Roy Jones Jr. is one of the most overrated fighters ever! Not sure of your age but Roy would have been obliterated by a prime T. Hearns, R. Leonard, M. Hagler, R. Duran, W. Benitez, Ray Robinson, Carlos Monzon, Nigel Benn, and the Hawk Julian Jackson would have sent Roy out on stretcher! At Roy's prime (and fighting top fighters in their prime) he was completely boring and ordinary in his biggest (and only) 2 wins, B. Hopkins I and J. Toney. At light-heavyweight, it would have been even worse for a prime Roy vs. a prime
      E. Holyfield, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Bob Foster, Michael Spinks, Ezzard Charles, and Archie Moore of 130 K.O.'s fame - please go and study the unbelievable record of "The Mongoose". Roy Jones Jr. was fast and flashy, fought in a very weak era and rode a hype train to fame and fortune to his credit. He was not supremely skilled, terrible boxing stance/guard, had a rarely used and poorly thrown jab, typically threw wild (guard down) hooks, had inconsistent follow-thru on power punches. He did throw the uppercut well and had nimble feet to keep distance in his favor. His fights were typically boring because he didn't truly dominate opponents far inferior to him with just a handful of exceptions. Skill-wise, he couldn't carry Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s nor Larry Holmes jock straps. I recommend you go back to the boxing lab, my friend. Chase TMH!

All black fighters don't fight the same; not even these two fight the same every time, just sometimes, both of these fighters will throw an entire fight away (like the first time they fought). I love how people say Roy was past his prime, but not Hopkins, even though Hopkins is like 5 years older than Roy. You see that's the difference, Hopkins didn't rely more on his athelticism than his actual skills where Roy relied more on his athletic abilities, but as you get older they all fade away. Thats why Hopkins won, his style can be boring, but more effective and that's what matters

      Roy at his best was very difficult for a conventional fighter to deal with, which is why Hopkins & Toney couldn't cope with prime Jones. When Jones lost his athleticism he only had his experience & cunning left as replacements, & sometimes, like here, it wasn't enough.

    • @TheRealJEmp
      @TheRealJEmp Před 7 lety +1

      Can't compare the two in that aspect. Hopkins played it safe in fights throughout his entire career and is also an exception to every rule physically. The man is the biggest example of an anomaly if there ever was one, which is why they call him "the Alien". That being said, last time I checked, B-Hop didn't cut 25 lbs of solid muscle that would've permanently ruined his punch resistance, taken away his legs, and diminished his athletic ability like it did Roy. Age isn't necessarily the main factor in determining who's the least far past it. Jones' career after that 25 lb muscle loss is proof of that.

      You sound like a girl. At that level fighting dirty is done by all fighters. Taking 15 mins was to slow Roy down so he can't gain the momentum. Roy is used to stalking, and around the 3rd and 4th round, Bernard was walking Roy Jones down. As soon as Hop's team sensed RJJ didnt have the same swag he usually has, BHop started living in his head rent free.

    Roy Jones could've been a retired undefeated pound for pound great if he hadn't moved up to heavyweight. The weight cut back to Light Heavyweight ruined his career. He came back to Light Heavyweight with a piss poor performance en route to Majority Decision against Antonio Tarver. He then fought him in a rematch and got brutally knocked out. It's sad to see him now. Retire now Roy. You had your time.

      +Dimitrije Dk I was with Roy's camp in this fight (you can see me toward the end of the vid I had tears in my eyes) and I'm also in some shots at the weigh in. Going in to the fight, I had concerns Roy would not fair well. Here's the deal: Hopkins is a bitch,. In their prime when it counted, Roy beat that ass. Hopkins aged better and so decided to go around and bully guys close to his age who whipped his ass back in the day, so fuck him. Second, I teared up a little because I knew that was it for Roy. It wasn't because he lost, it's like when your favorite athlete plays his last game.

    • @NitroRCNerds
      @NitroRCNerds Před 8 lety +11

      No if's, Roy went 50- 0 so very easily could have retired the greatest ever no questions asked (and still did IMO).But he's not about that (like some boxers today). The books show 49-1 but everyone knows from an ass-beating perspective he went 50-0. Roy wasn't feeling challenged so wanted to do things that nobody had seen i generations (if ever). He truly did much of his (post 50-0) activity for one reason: to save try and save boxing He felt it was dying as a sport (and it was) and I
      ll never forget him saying (a few months before Ruiz fight) how he realizes people were doubting him but it was drawing interest and that's what mattered to him (and meant every fu*king word of that). Oh, and beat that ass too. One thing I can tell you, he wasn't hurting for money. At all. He is just very competitive and there was nothing wrong with him going down swinging. Lots of MFers cherry-pick and sit on that record. Roys old skool.

    Not Hopkins' finest moment. He had the win in the bag in terms of better technique. He did not need to indulge in all the fouling, Roy Jones was only retaliating and rightly so since Weeks was not protecting him. As a BHop fan, this fight was a great disappointment and you have to think that emotion - 17 years of it all bottled up - got the better of him on fight night. I think he was scared of losing to Jones Jr again, so pulled out every trick in the book even though he really didn't need to.

      Exactly. Well said. Hopkins was an embarrassment in this fight. Was obvious he wasn't confident in beating Roy with boxing alone, so he did every dirty trick he's always done in one fight. Very disappointed and I'm sure if he's honest with himself, he himself will regret 'winning' this way.

      Charles Tilley I like both fighters, but Roy Jones at this point was damaged goods. He had been clocked, knocked out multiple times already prior to stepping in the ring with Hopkins in 2010. Meanwhile Hopkins hadn’t gotten knocked out at all, barely even gotten clipped bad up until this point. And you can say Hopkins reached his prime at a much later age, he knocked Trinidad and Oscar out and he was nearing 40 years old at that point, everything was in Hopkins favor.
