Board culture and leadership has an impact on the whole organisation. Who the board members are, how they conduct themselves, and how they relate to others throughout the organisation is critical. Boards should not see themselves as removed from the organisation at large - they are operating in more of a 'glasshouse' than they might realise.
Boards have a great opportunity to support the development of teams and the culture of their organisations. But through big egos, poor relationships and a lack of reflection on their own performance, board conduct and culture can become a toxic contagion. Boards need to be accountable for building their culture.
