Hot Take: The GAN X V1 is better than the XS because of the metal core, and glossy finish.
(I'm used to heavier cubes, so that's why I like prefer the metal core over the plastic one.
the gan x v1 is heavier than the xs, so you can make faster turning with the xs, and its plastic becomes better than the x when using it
@@cristianbustos8688 I'm so used to cubes that weigh 80-90 grams, that when I use the XS is feels really weird in my hands. Also the XS is really slippery

Hot Take: The GAN 356 M is the same as the XS. The only difference is that the M doesn't have interchangeable magnets.
So therefore, the GAN 356 Air M is the best value GAN cube.

Now for the unpopular decision I would say the decision made by gan to release cubes like the 356 air pro and 356rs which were just their flagship cubes without magnets but still had high prices and less performance.

yes i agree with that, my meilong has a better grip compare to my tornado v3, the glossy finished on the v3 is way too slippery it's not like uv coating it's hard to get a good grip on the glossy coating

Hot take: I think zz-CT is really underrated and there is a lot of potential in the method. If only someone would take the time to gen al the algs to make them a lot better. (After my last examen next week I might look in to genning algs...) I would want the meilong 3M. Love your vids and peculiarly the 3D printing one’s. Are those stl files available?

Great review. I only have the old ummagnetized Meilong but I love it even without magnets. So I was both happy they released a factory magnetic version and also pissed off because I could have just waited for this one.
Anyways, I don't know how hot of a take this is, but I feel like the Yuxin Little Magic, a widely praised "budget" cube isn't as good as some people make it out to be, mainly because of how weird the corner cutting is and how unstable it can feel. But once again I'm talking about the non magnetic version.
Anyways, it's difficult choosing between the Meilong and the RS3 but I guess I prefer the RS3 so I have a new experience since I already kinda know how the Meilong feels and how light it is. Thanks for the giveaway, as well as the videos, which have all been fantastic!

Congrats for 25k subs...but,as the RS3M 2020 is insane I am going to prefer that...I customized the same way as cyoubx did it in his recent video...it is godly now...the best budget cube ever💪
My hot take: The Dayan Zhanchi, a cube that was released almost a decade ago is still/can be a top tier comp viable cube, even by today’s standards.
Good corner cutting, good spring strength, and is very smooth, stable and controllable when set up with the right combination of lubes. Lockups and pops aren’t even an issue if you have accurate turning. What more could you ask for?
(If you find it too blocky, modding can help with that)

No one has turning accurate enough to not lock up on that cube when turning at 10+ tps and most people would still lock up when turning at like 7 tps
JBYCuber pops only really happen when you corner cut too far, like above 45. Realistically, no one uses 45 degree corner cutting in their solves, and if you do, then you have a problem
Volcanic Cuber Feliks’ 5.66 WR single was set on a Zhanchi, and he had a turn speed of just over 9TPS. Keep in mind this was many years ago, and his turning accuracy/skill has improved since then

I liked the heavier, smoother cubes of the past. That is why I would like the RS3M
Here's my hot take: Many premium cube lubes are overrated, because you could just grab bottles of Traxxas, shock or diff. oils for potentially less, and they'd still work as good in cubes.
Such a cube would be the RS3M 2020, as many lubes mentioned above would work with this cube to make it a budget flagship(?) And that would definitely be something I'd be going for 🙏

Budget/economy puzzles are taking over the market, there will be absolutely no need to spend large sums of money for well performing cubes in the future. I would like the RS3M.
Hot take : look ahead is a distraction (You may have seen this in j perm's video lol). I often sees sub 15 solver suggest a sub 1 solver to practice look ahead and it really bothers me. Although look ahead is important for those who average sub 15, but for sub 1 solver i think there are still many important things to focus on other than look ahead, such as fingertricks and 2-look oll and pll.

My hot take: Core tensioning adjustment (Gan's 0.6, 0.8, 1 settings) is the only customisation I care about because manual tensioning is a daunting task for me. I hope Moyu and Qiyi adapt this in their newer cubes.

Hot take: Lube plays an important role in making a cube really good. Every cube from 2015 ( even 2013) is still viable to this date as long as you set it up correctly by tensioning and using the right lube combination.
(Also I think you are one of the most underrated channel in the community, I have been following you since 2016 and had watched all your video.😂 You also provide high quality reviews and tutorial.)

Here is my hot take: Flagship cubes are currently a mix between higher prices cubes like those of GAN, and these new "budget" (still loaded with features) cubes. It just goes to show that GAN is really the Apple of cubes.

2x2 is one of the best events, it's very fun to solve
Hot take: white cubes with stickers are the best combination. I don't care between the RS3M or Meilong 3m, I guess I'll take the Meilong :)
My hot take : I haven't been cubing for that much time, I average around 30s with CFOP but I quickly switched to Roux cause I wanted to try, and with a bit of time I became faster with Roux than with CFOP so it became my main method. I think that if you learn as much in CFOP and in Roux, Roux has more "potential", you juste need to get used to it and I'm happy that you showed what you thought of this method :-)

Hot take: Practicing is the best yet worst advice ever.
By practicing you can improve at whatever you are doing, but you can still make mistakes and be practicing them. However, if you know what your doing wrong, you can practice not doing those mistakes to make yourself even better. That's why they say practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.

Hot take: Learning new algs is easy, weather it's full oll/pll or COLL/Zblls. All it takes it half an hour of practise and another half hour of drilling recognition. And of course some time implementing it to solves.
Cube: My current main is the rs2, and would love to try the rs3m 2020 and see the difference in cubing hardware!
Hot take: 4x4 is objectively the best event

1. Unpopular opinion: the weilong gts2 m is still very relevant and a great mis tier priced cube. Great upgrade for newer cubers due to how good it is ootb and how easy it is to set up. The cube also fits a wide variety of turning styles and is also very versatile. The cube is good for oh and bld as well.

Great video keep it up! I believe the Thunderclap V2 is a great cube. I do not have a preference of what cube I get if I win
Hot Take: ZZ is better than CFOP for OH. The ergonomic problems of 2H ZZ (such as awkward F2L regrips) are nonexistent for OH, and rotations for OH are really bad comparatively. Also, ZZ gives you a ton of opportunities for COLL which yields a U perm 2/3 of the time.
Cube: Meilong 3M
Hot take: cubes with a lot of ways that you can customize are better because more speedcubers can use them. More stable cubes are better because you can perform a lot of algorithms without messing up or having some weird lock- up. Cube: It doesn’t matter which one I will get (or not) because both of these cubes are probably very good, but if I had to choose one of them, it will be the Rs3m 2020, because it has a a lot of ways that you can customize, even if it’s unstable. But I can make it more stable adding extra magnets into the edge pieces. Congratulations for 25k!👏👏 Wish you the best

Im entering the giveaway of course... I dont know if this counts, but back when i started cubing in 2011, it was a really inexpensive hobby! This might count as an unpopular opininon but cubes has become way too expensive... Yes, i get that its magnets and mechanisms and this, that etc. but 50 dollars is just way too expensive for a 3x3 in my opninion. I would like the RS3M. Keep grinding with the videos mate, glad youre back on YT!

Hot take: Because not too many events have clock, the cuberbase which practices clock gets smaller and smaller, making the number of events with clock even smaller and so on, creating a cycle which (if not stopped) will at some point get to a point where the only option will be to remove clock from the WCA. The only way to make more cubers get into clock is hosting clock at more events.
Of course we won't get better hardware if there's no market for it:)

Hot Take: Dry (unset-up) solving new cubes and breaking it in at least 1000 solves actually makes a significant difference on how a cube feels. It makes it a lot softer and smoother when set up. It also refines the plastic and it makes it faster to break in the newly applied lube.

Hot take: I think that there should be a vote every 4 years for who should be making the rules and be in the WCA council.

Hot take: In January I bought mi first profesional cube, a weilong wrm, then covid takes away all comps, an now is the rs3m, Wich seems to be as fast as the weilong and has the same magnets an elasticity system, and it cost more less than the weilong.
Keep like that, you do the most accurate and honest reviews, and the way you customize the cubes is amazing.
What 2x2 cube would you recommend for just getting into 2x2? I was considering the Qiyi MS 2x2, but I'm not too sure yet. This is such an underrated channel and you definitely deserve more subs, but congrats on 25k subs 👏

Hot Take: I just swap my main from ProShop Little Magic 3x3 M to QiYi MS 3x3 M. It so happen after you put a lot of Speedy into the MS, the cube become a lot more consistent (no more overshot and undershot). It's effortless to turn and my finger doesn't hurt anymore from the overly strong magnet of the ProShop one.
My hot take is Phil Yu using ZZ on a qiyi ms and Dayan tengyun

The MF3RS2 (M) from way back is IMO one of the best cubes ever.. it had turning smooth as butter and effortless cornercutting, yet it was discontinued!

Hot take: The gan R is much better than the Gan XS, the reason is because the magnets make the cube feel more unstable, the core adjustment system is too unnecessary, and how the Gan Xs is pretty light, have the risk that the cube just fly out and u just lose it.

Unpopular opinion: I feel like there isn’t much we can improve on 3x3 by this point. Manufacturers have been trying to come up with new ways to improve the hardware, but at the end we end up having another pricey cube with fancy, complicated technology that make no difference from previous cubes. While other events still have a ways to go when it comes to hardware, I feel that since the discovery of magnets and spring compression, we’ve kinda reached a peak in 3x3 hardware.

The valk 3 elite magnet system is still GOAT because the strong magnetic feel doesn't make the cube feel sluggish or heavy.

1. Hot Take: I'm an old cuber (2008-2011) and I still have my 2010 Dayan Guhong. With no lubing for the past 9 years, I still managed to achieve a PB single of 10.67s after a month of quarantine since March 2020. Now, I bought two GAN cubes (XS and Air SM) and eventually got a better time (on both) of 10.53s. Bottomline: New Hardware helps but could also be a placebo effect.
2. Cube: MeiLong 3M
The hot take: MGC Elite. I really like the easy magnet streng change

Big blind event really help me focus in tests or exams and I would enjoy both of them
Hot take: Roux could potentially be better than CFOP. Although the M U moves equate to slower turning, as someone who only has 4-6 tps per solve, with roux I could be averaging under ten seconds if I was averaging 40-50 moves per solve (although I wont be switching any time soon lol)

Hot take: Gan can create a 20$ magnetic cube under a different brand, but under their own brand they create the 356 M which is 27$ and basically performs the same as the monster go magnetic 3x3. The 356 M lite is also basically the same as the X v1 without it's magnets and extra springs.
An unpopular opinion is that E perm is the best perm. I would love to win the RS3M 2020 because I haven’t gotten a new 3x3 in a year!
