- First, apologies for the super bright moments in this video. I’m still learning my camera and didn’t realize it was this bright while shooting.
Next, thank you for joining me in upsizing and graduating these 5 alocasias from fluval stratum to pon.
I find fluval stratum to be magical in rooting for alocasias and alocasias corms so I always use this for any rehabs or props before pon.
I’d love to know what your experience with fluvial and pon has been thus far. Let’s chat below👇

I have a few Alocasias that I moved to PON, but will move back to a nice aroid mix with biochar, compost, and castings because I like to keep my plants in as natural of a media as I can. I love PON but I killed my first Thai Constellation with it and almost cried. The Constellation loved PON and the roots went crazy. Silly me didn't know moving it to an aroid mix with cocopeat would kill it because the roots are lighter when grown in PON. If you put a Thai Constellation in PON, fine, but leave it there. I purchased a second constellation and a day after watering, the roots and original soil from the vendor came off my plant and I freaked. Thankfully there was a growth point. I was scared the plant would rot since it did nothing in water. I moved it to PON and the magic began. Today I have a beautiful healthy plant with multiple large leaves. I have also grown my Albo node which was struggling and corms in Fluval! The stuff is magic for plants so long as you don't let it dry out. My one question is...Do Alocasia's give corms like when grown in soil? I also have set of those second pots you used and those are great. I just learned to remove plants from it once the roots start to grow through because I have ripped a lot of roots and I don't like to do that.
💚💚💚
I have been using pon for less than a year. I put my alocasias and they love it. I have a few hoyas with it mixed with fuval stratum
I actually do also have a few Hoyas in pon. It just seems the answer to all my planty problems lol
I just recently moved a few of my plants to Pon. So far I have a Philodendron Fuzzy Petiole, a Philodendron El Choco Red, a Calathea Orbifolia, an Alocasia Jacklyn and some kind of Anthurium in Pon. Hopefully they will be happy
Love this assortment! Great group to get good feedback from 😊
How did it go? I’m about to transfer my brand new Jacklyn but I’m scared I’m going to kill it!? And shouldn’t you put the plants in water first? Or what iv seen ppl just go from soil to pin?
I don't use pure pon, just because I don't like how it looks (especially when wet). Probably because it looks similar to wet gravel after a rain which makes me uncomfortable. My mix either consists of materials similar to pon + pine bark + coco chips (rehydrated by dechlorinated water from the product description), or without the coco chips.
My philodendron mameii and glorious absolutely love pon I’ve had to pot them up a few times into larger long pots. 11:54
Exciting! I’m going to be moving my gloriosum into pon as I’ve struggled so much with it in soil.
Hi Claudia I too use semi hydro for all my Alocasia. My zebrina love love love the pon and have thrown so big. I have most of my Hoya in pon some like it more than others. I also have a few of my philodendron in semi hydro. I prefer to use a wick as those that don’t have them don’t grow as well I think
Interesting on the wick! I’ve heard the same feedback about Hoyas and pon, my guess is maybe they want to dry out completely longer than most other plants in it?
Hey Claudia, I was wondering; do you reuse the fluval stratum? Thanks in advance. Great videos!
I just got an elephant ear Alocasia. I need all the tips & tricks. Best medium/lighting/humidity requirements. I’m desperate for it to grow big
The plants go well with the pots, but they should be repotted soon.😂
I know! Haha but I’d rather repot frequently so I can keep an eye on the root system
Great video!! I just bought some pon substrate and I'm excited to transfer some of my soiled plants. What's in your nutrient solution?
Exciting exciting! I’ve really fallen in love with pon. This is my nutrient rich cocktail👇

Thank you!!
I set up a little station for myself for repots, similar to yours, but somehow by the end of it, I have dirt, pon, spaghnum, fluval, pots all over the kitchen, living room, and dining table 🤣 idk how I do it every time.
Also, I feel you on the fluval drying out so fast. My first time using it was a few weeks ago and I put a bunch of corms/baby alocasia into it into my ikea greenhouse cabinet. They sprouted out new leaves almost instantly. But I went away for just under 3 days last week and came back and it was completely dried out. I had no idea it dried that fast! At least 12 different plants. Ended up losing five (rip), rehabbing 4 currently, and then the other ones are still fine. 😩
How does this happen?’ Or is it just us? 😂 ugh I’m so sorry about your baby corns :( I feel like they are very high maintenance in fluvial stratum especially when in cabinet conditions. Hope your 4 recover soon!!
