  • I've been thinking about leaving everything behind and starting over. Living in Miami Beach Florida has been awesome for 13 years, but I have been considering a move for a while now. Even though living here is great, there are also so many other great places to live in Florida.

I am also have issues living in one place for more then 1 year.... I understand you completely. I would feel great living in a place where no one ever lived so I can be first one and last one... I would also like to live the way that I can relocate within 1 day to any other place... 2nd thing I have as I am minimalist, but first one its the hardest... And yeah you live in great place !

I understand completely that making a huge decision such as this is not always the easiest. I myself want to Florida from NJ. I am so bored I've been living in NJ for almost all my life. I did live in Florida once before but that was when I was a young boy going to high school. I used to live Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Then after high school I moved to Ohio for about 8 months and then I moved to NJ in '88. I am so bored the weather climate in NJ hot n cold n snow back and forth. Thats how I get sick. I need to live in a all year round warm state, and that is making a move back to the sunshine state.....Florida. My folks retired and bought a place in Pembroke Pines, Florida and they're happy. Now they are waiting for me to make move down there. As of this moment I can't make a move just yet because I have some legal issues I need to finish with and then I can make the move down there. I visited Florida a couple of years ago shortly after my folks moved down there, we took a trip to St. Augustine, Florida. Ihave to say St. Augustine, Florida looked beautiful wow. Some of the places I was viewing on youtube were places such as Port Saint Lucie, Pembroke Pines, Deerfield Beach, and Miami. I even looked at Tampa, Florida. Big Decisions to make in the near future. I'd say I'll be ready to move by next year, say about next April before the summer holidays arrive for 2022. That's all for now Michael. I will keep viewing your youtube channel ok. Take care.

In the meantime, do your homework & the rocking chair test...when you are 85 will you think back & say "I wish I had..."! Looking forward to your exploration vids.

Twenty-seven years ago today my husband and I, along with our two Golden Retrievers, immigrated into Los Angeles from N. Ireland. He was 50 and I was 41. We left everything behind, including a beautiful house in the country which sat on half an acre overlooking a river valley at the rear, and a lake surrounded by woodland at the front. This was so hard to leave as we knew we could never afford a property like this in Southern California! BUT NOW, we are 77 and 68, respectively, and are planning to relocate to Florida from SoCal. Yes, it is scary - but do not let age stop you. You make me smile when I hear your concern about moving at the grand old age of 33, lol, lol... Starting over and taking a chance is all part of the adventure. Good luck. You can do It! And so can anyone else who reads this. Go with your gut.

Damn Michael you just killed me when you said you were on the older side at 33 ! LOL. I'll be 66 next month. Seriously though as usual you give all good advice. I believe you only live once and there's nothing worse than regrets about what you wish you had done, but you are right about having to do the research. I moved to South Florida when I was about the age you are now actually and have never regretted it and as I've discussed before, I flourished in so many areas I never knew I had talent in. A good friend of mine moved to San Francisco from Boca Raton at the age of 62. Yes he had a little money but not a fortune and everyone advised him against it and he has flourished and made an amazing life for himself, and when you can do that in San Francisco you really are lucky. ( okay, he's just over the bridge.) But ultimately I believe life is short and if you really want to do something, you should do it. By the way please forgive me this is off topic, but have you ever eaten at Chocolada on Hollywood Boulevard in downtown Hollywood? I went there for the third time yesterday and the food is absolutely amazing, very European service and food, with super cheap prices. I don't often indulge in deserts but their pastries and desserts made in house are out-of-this-world as are their omelettes and everything else. You might want to take a ride down there someday it's worth it. We had iced coffee, espresso, a fabulous three-item omelette with the most amazing roasted potatoes and homemade toast, eggs florentine with the same potatoes, and a chocolate eclair to die for. 30 bucks total!

I'm 23 years old and I just made the big move to Winter Haven, Florida. It's a small laid back town between Tampa and Orlando and if I want to go to to Miami, all I have to do is take Highway 27 from central Florida straight to South Beach. But mind you this move was much easier for me because I have alot of Floridian relatives including my older sister who've lived in Florida for 10+ years from Puerto Rico. I lived in Puerto Rico for 2 years so I'm very familiar with this type of climate and heat here in Florida. And plus in the first 2 weeks I've been here I transferred and got a Nursing job working as an LPN working Full Time 40+hours a week making $23 an hour at a rehabilitation center and got a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo in downtown Winter Haven with everything included from pool, sauna, fitness center, boat dock with cabana on a huge lake across the street. I've been living in Florida for 2 months now and I absolutely love it!! It reminds me so much of when I was living in Puerto Rico!! The only downside is I wish I would've made this move sooner but than again I'm only 23 years young so I still took advantage. I love your channel btw!!!

If you are dead set on Saint Augustine, you may have to wait a couple of years until there are corrections in the economy. Saint Augustine looks like it is worth waiting for. In the meantime, I would continue to plan ahead and research other locales. You may want to take a look at Ponte Vedra. PV sits between Saint Augustine and Jacksonville; it may be a viable alternative. If you buy the dip or the collapse, you win. Good luck!!!

I’m sorta in the same situation as you Michael, except I’m in my 60’s. I have it very good right here in Fort Lauderdale. But, I have constant thoughts of moving out to Southern California to be closer to my siblings. Most of my friends have moved from SoFlo and I really only have two friends left here. My same excellent healthcare plan is available where I want to relocate to. Walk ability factor is 94/100. Wouldn’t need a car. I’d be 30 minutes from family. Yet, the decision is still unresolved. I’ve had this desire for the past 5 years. It started at 60 when I was beginning to prepare for retirement and is still very strong. I think, if on the next trip out West the desire is strong and it feels concrete that’s the sign to go ahead. Family has already said that they have ZERO interest in heat/humidity/hurricanes. I’ve asked them point blank what they think about me moving closer to them. They’ve said they think it’s a great idea if it will make me happy and give me emotional peace knowing they’re close by. Everything happens when the Universe gives the green light to our desires and it’s not the job of my ego to say when what I want should happen or appear. I keep thinking about the … 3 C’s of Life … you must make a CHOICE to take a CHANCE or your life will never CHANGE. 🤔

Hi Michael, I really enjoy your videos. You have a lot of initiative and you will do well anywhere you go. Something is causing you to think about moving. Depending on what that is, only you can determine whether a move will help. Environments that are perfect for us in younger years don't always meet our needs when we get older.
My wife and I moved from the Midwest to the Pacific Northwest and then to Florida. We met great friends and experienced new cultures. Now we are considering a new adventure. We could have stayed at one company and one location our whole lives and put more money in the bank, but we would have missed out on new experiences.
There is a cost to change and doing your research and using your intuition will help you determine if it is worth it. Sometimes the answer is "yes", but not yet.

This relates to the reasons why I'm looking to move to Florida, though I'm only a few years from possibly retiring. I have lived in the DC area all my life except for college. I fell in love with Florida own my vacations. I'm afraid that the luxury housing prices in south Florida (West Palm Beach, Ft Lauderdale, Hollywood)will increase and price me out of where I might most prefer to be, before I can move down. My preference is to be able to buy without selling my current home, as my family is still Maryland in and I can retire before my wife. We realize we do have a nice place...but it’s not FL, where I grew up & the entire family visits at least twice a year because it feels like home. We are in our late 60’s & moving to FL has always been our hope. We’ve been in this house 20 years, a record-breaker, so yes, it’s scary to think about moving to FL. We aren’t wealthy, just average, so getting anything even close to what we have now is unlikely with the housing market the way it is....which is super disappointing & is going to make things a lot harder. I am so glad I struck out on my own right after college. I did not have much of a safety net, so I had to get a job right away, but I loved moving to Denver from dreary old SE Michigan. I had been there the summer before, but did not know anyone, but I make friends fast. I saw many of my friends and classmates who never left MI, and are still stuck in there, as they now have family and work ties. I think everyone should at least explore one other place to live. Now, I have been to all 50 states (48 by the time I was 26) and lived in 10. It has given me more of an appreciation for different places. I wish the remote online earning was available, or I might have chosen some smaller places. I know many are not risk-takers, but if you do some research and have self confidence, you know things will always work out. You will not have any regrets about not spending more time cleaning or staying in your comfort zone, but you will regret not taking a chance. When you are in your 20s, you have abso, utely nothing to lose. I was lucky to be 22 at a more affordable time, so an apt in a new city would not require a huge outlay. I am drawn to smaller cities, now, provided they have good transportation and culture access to a big city. Beautiful as it is, I could not live in WY, MT, or several other places. Our impression of a place often changes once we live there. I loved SF when I first visited, but after living there for a few years, the photogenic beauty was surpassed by constant fog, the incessant noise of the city, as it is very compact, the hassle of finding a place for your car - with all the tow-away zones (most apts do not come with any parking), and the constant side show weirdness that made every day feel like Halloween. I still love visiting the city, but would never want to live there again, especially with homelessness and drugs and human manure around, and a CON tyrant like Newsom as governor.
As long as one is clear about what they want, and make connections with locals, a lot of opportunities can open up. The basic decision all boils down to excitement about new opportunities vs fear of failing. Most Americans do not have enough hunger for freedom, but prefer to be taken care of. Approach life as an adventure, and you will be well-rewarded. Fear is a killer! Michael, you live in a state where there are lots of opportunities, so you will never have to return to small town IL. That, in itself, should comfort you. Experiencing a different part of Florida will be a good experience, and if you don't find it desirable, you can always return to Miami.

I have done plenty of moving in my 66 years. I've gone from one state to another; one city to another; one neighborhood to another. Sometimes, I wanted to move, but couldn't. There were too many obstacles in the way. But, my major moves were always wide-open opportunities, and I knew I would kick myself if I didn't take advantage of them. I always wait for the opportunities and then I act on them before they close and they're gone forever. You just *know* when the time is right; you do it without thinking, without research, risks be hanged! Other times, you're forced to sit on your hands and wait it out, but I use those times to learn to love my situation; to really get into where I am at the moment.

I am committed to my business partner thru the end of 2022. At that time, I plan on selling part of my business to pay off my Florida house mortgage. I will retain a small portion of the business and take a substantial pay cut. But how much do you really need to live on if your house and vehicle are paid for? Our main concern with Florida was the rising home prices and we were concerned that if we waited 10 years to move, we wouldn't be able to afford the home we always wanted. The bill aimed to pro-rate the amount the insurance companies have to pay even though their own policies state there would be full replacement value. I think the bill covers roofs only for 10 years. Also, the banks require full replacement value as part of the mortgage contract. This is a huge factor! We just replaced our roof due to Hurricane Irma from 2017. We had to use a public adjuster.
