Beautiful work as always and impeccably clean. Such a time saver over sanding and buffing. I agree with you on the 3M gun. Ive been using it close to a year now, and it has become my goto gun for just about every job. Clearcoat too, lol. I know I know..... Its a pretty damn good gun. Yes, i have an Sata, Iwata. But i like the 3M. Cleans easily. Really lays color nicely ( I'm using solvent base, not water ) . But it really can lay out nice clear though maybe a drop slower than the others. Candyman ROCKS !!! Love your channel.
Hey, you were talking about a lot of guys don’t like that gun I might be crazy but this is the way I see it. It’s a good gun and all, but the gun doesn’t have no character like no soul that’s kind of the way. I feel a lot of people like flashy guns good colors and that one so dull. I hope you read this comment so you can ask other painters to see if I’m right or kind of right anyways and let me know what they. hey by the way, let me know what they say just for fun. Love your videos. Keep up the good work i’ve learned so many things with your channel. God bless you.
For honesty , I do pretty much the same as you (to sort mottle) , pending the colour and product being used I'll even do 3 drop coats if I think it needs 👍
DP90. Last time i used it was around '94. Great product. I had painted, yes painted a 50 Merc that my good friend had built. We did it in flat black finish. DP 90 was that finish. It STILL looks great. I had a dry cough for about 4 days after shooting that car. Wth is in that stuff?? Lol.
I’m currently using a basf product, called Baslac. It’s very similar to RM and Glasurit 90line. I give it 2 full coats, then a half coat. The for the orientation coat, I keep the pressure high and just dust over the based areas. It works really well.
Interesting comment on reducing eproxy primer. I use an axalta cromax and I find, using it normal 2:1, if I don’t really let it flash I get dye back. I’m going to try that thinning it out, thx kandyman.
Amazing finish there Kandy Man the depth of gloss on those panels is great with no sign of ant mottle, I did a Renault Xerus Grey a few days back and could see some mottle even though I did a double drop coat but I think I got it to wet. That box van is going to be a challenge for you, will it fit in your booth🤔😂👍John UK
Great video as always! Appreciate your knowledge brother and that you share that with us! We're so lucky to have CZcams and people like you, Brian and Padro to help us be better ourselves as technicians!
Great tips. Quick question, I always thought you had to drop coat immediately after your last coat of base so the light drop coat is landing into wet base.
I love your results ! When you spray it dry like that Is it completely etching into the paint and not leaving a dry base dust ? I’ve had it where the base looks great with no mottling and then the clear actually moves that base and makes it look mottled I assume you don’t tack it off before clear ?
Good morning Kandy Man. Hope you’re enjoying the weather in sunny Florida. That job came out spectacular. So much depth in the finish. Is the 5050 your go to for the clear?
My work decided to buy us some spray guns. Getting a 3m performance and a pair of satas. 1.3I and 1.4O. Will try the 3m for base. May have them next week.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us ! Can you give e some input on grounding the vehicle before painting to control static which attracts dust! I read it helps but you should also ground your air hose because when air passes through it it creates static also. What’s the best anti static products to wipe down with. Lastly what humidity is to much I’ve heard humidity levels can change the color of you paint. I really appreciate your professional feedback back . Im Getting very close to paint day and looking to do everything possible for a clean paint job.
Beautiful. My concern with base is making sure the solvent has completely flashed off. Once it's cleared, any residual trapped solvent will cause snake skin. And the beauty is, it doesn't show up right away, maybe years later. Painting can be so fun lol Which products are water based and which are not?
That's what I'm dealing with. I use DBC for restorations and Envirobase for collision. Been trying to find a urethane sealer for both that lays smooth. Been hearing things like de-lam with water over certain sealers that stay open from awhile. Things are getting complicated.
I remember hearing that those aluminum ford hoods and such were always peeling because aluminum gets an oxide film rapidly and they weren't coated quickly enough so I always etch primed aluminum pretty quickly after sanding. Does the epoxy primer bond better? How long do you have between those steps?
What’s your course of action when both sides of the car are different colors. Doing a lift-gate and quarter at a the moment. But the opposite quarter is way off. Do I just blend my repair and let the butt Match of the opposite quarter suck? lol
I know you did a video on the Accuspray/3M performance guns. Is the original Issac still better than the latest 3M performance? I know you said in that video you like the 3M performance gun, but which performs better on metallics? I’m assuming you like the 3MP because the quick tip change overs vs the Issac. I have the 1.0 version of the PPS gun and I like it , was wondering how much better spraying the new one is.
Do you tack off your drop coat before clear? PPG says not to because it could streak the metallic. Ive personally never seen it but whenever i dont tack, the finish comes out dirtier. Your thoughts?
Nice!!! Informative. Thank you for the video

😊😊 3m do something similar I use to cover the floor in my booth but it's a right pain to install, thanks for showing mottling avoidance 😊😊

Nailed it 👌

Thank you. And yes on the clear
Nice work! Is that water base ? Also how long did you bake it at 110 before you applied your control coat
Yes waterborne and 10 minutes
Awesome video Kandy man!! Have you ever used the 3M dirt control rolls? Thanks for sharing all your knowledge buddy
👍

Years ago it was a thing too ground the car with a chain .haven't done it in 27 years. But give a whirl if it works for you👍👍
@@kandyman5315 what’s a good anti static wipe do you recommend any?
@timhudson8958 I use the water base cleaner last which grounds the panels and cuts down on static
@@kandyman5315 thanks I appreciate it ! Happy spraying may all your panels come out nib free!😎

Never had a problem
@kandyman5315 great work as usual. How did you guys go about stripping the hood?
Da with Festool
Why drop the pressure? I’ve never had it explained. I’ve always just done it. Excited to see that box truck!
Bigger droplets
I remember hearing that those aluminum ford hoods and such were always peeling because aluminum gets an oxide film rapidly and they weren't coated quickly enough so I always etch primed aluminum pretty quickly after sanding. Epoxy is the best
Great video can that same method be used with solvent base?
Yes just go easy on the coverage costs then same on drop coats
@@kandyman5315 thank you I appreciate the information
100% on the dropcoat.
Looka great as always.
If you don't mind me asking. What clearcoat do you guys use?
Ppg 5050
@@kandyman5315 thank you sir!
Gorgeous job and color. Was the pig mat good stuff?
👍
Have you tried the 3m gun for clear? Other painter at my work cleared a job with it and turned out good.
I have tried it. To me, it works best for base
There’s a Mike in every shop, stand your ground and don’t give them bodyman no passes! 😂😂😂😂
Lol
Never sprayed water based. It seems like a pain in the ass
What psi are your spraying your wet basecoat with the 3m?
18psi
Do you have any videos on how to spray a wet bed, properly?
Not just on wet bed application sorry
@@kandyman5315 ok, thanks.

Paint your side with the right color and tint to match the other side
What was the hood final sanded with before the epoxy sealer? time saver with the 2:1:1
320

Yes

Issac is the king of metallic. But the new 3m gun is way better than the old one for many reasons
@@kandyman5315is “Issac” a good gun for Metallics? I never heard of that name before.
will that box truck even fit in the booth? would like to see that video.

Some times
Do you plan on switching to the new 1.5 coat process for the Envirobase?
Not sure
Do you let your wet bed flash or go straight over it with base?
Both works fine
Are u tacking after your drop coat just curious verry nice job by the way
Do seal over plastic filler sand throughs?
