Dirty soda was actually a Utah thing, not a southern thing. Well unless you live north of Utah I guess.
But anyway, there are a LOT of Mormons in Utah, and so there are a lot of restrictions on both alcohol and coffee. So a company, Swig, started up a company selling these dirty sodas and they were really popular so the idea gradually spread.
Was just gonna say that I grew up in the South, and can't even imagine people drinking this. And certainly never heard of it. Which means little since The South covers quite a big area! So naturally I won't have heard of everything! I literally just tried a Coconut Dr. Pepper. And apparently, I'm not in the camp that thinks that strong artificial coconut mixes well with Dr. Pepper.
