    Electrics are beyond me, Dave. I would love to do it though. Still using the Hornby Elite! I like the CCTV. That 20 has great sound. I love 47's.

    The Hornby magazine article was really good Dave. I hope you will do some more in future. This has been a very interesting update too I will have a look for the cameras myself and the DDC points unit looks useful as well. I am thinking of replacing some servo operated points with solenoids

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      its great stuff, the DCC Concepts products. But they aint cheap....pay for quality I suppose. I am in the process of upgrading to the ECOS controller too. Once that is in place and the storage yard is fully DCC controlled I will then look to upgrade the points at the station side of the layout using the same hardware. But its not cheap!

    • @cedarcam
      @cedarcam Před 6 lety

      Well I always say with things like that you get what you pay for Buy cheap and get lower quality. DCC Concepts look to be very good and should last many years. I saw you are looking at the ECOS and from what I hear it is a very good system. I use a Roco Z21 myself and am very pleased with it. Very easy to set up and use, also no F numbers to remember. You just look at the symbol of the function you want to use. I think the ECOS is also like that.

  • @kirktonroadjunction193

    Great update Dave and congratulations on your layout being featured in Hornby Magazine. Really like the new class 47, it looks stunning. And you finally have a class 20 lol, all you need now is another one to run a double header..... Mark

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      Hi Mark, cheers. Yes, a Blue 20 with Domino box is on the horizon, when Bachmann release these in 2019, or 2020?! The HAA hoppers will also get weathered so they go well on a Merry-go-round coal train. Dave

    • @kirktonroadjunction193
      @kirktonroadjunction193 Před 6 lety +1

      I was hoping Bachmann would release a class 20 with lights. They are, but it's a class 20/3 in DRS and HNRC liveries, and the standard model is being left as is.. for now. I remember the merry-go-round coal trains from Seafield Colliery to Longannet Power Station, these trains had 3 class 20's pulling them, 2 locomotives at one end and one at the other. It would be a fantastic train to model.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      wow, 3 of them? Didnt know that. Yeah now that would look impressive. Even if you had the 20 at the back motor-less, so it was just pulled along!

      Yea Dave That is a train you should re create They were great to see. I wanted to run one myself but have found the new pair of 20's have different gear ratios to the first ones they made Grrrr

  • @NewcastleCentralOOGauge

    Great new loco additions. Interested in how you like the Alpha Mimic. I looked at those approaches when I was building my main switch panel, and still not sure if I want to switch to something like and reduce the wiring clutter. Works for now, but I agree that I still like somewhat of a tactile feel alongside DCC control. Iain

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      I will keep the switching of toggle switches on the control panel, but the LEDS's will let me know which direction the point is set, even when I cant see it. Dave

    Very nice. I look forward to seeing you build the DCC Concepts mimic panels. I was considering building some panels but did not see a lot of videos on them and felt that you had to buy a lot of hardware to get it all working. I ended up using loconet hardware from Team Digital and MGP panel decoders.

    Will anyone make more atp carriages so you can run it as a if it was entered into service
    Loved 06:32 shot of the monitors as it shows a shot You don’t of the station. Like the Royal Mail transit parked there can you show more of these unseen shots of ur layout.
    Has rail master started there track detection yet as ever since it came out it had track detection but never actual installed it to work
    It’s surprising when I read a magazine you think it’s a completed layout seen yours and Everard in mags and know both was not completed good to know.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      Hi, is a layout ever completed? lol. As for the APT-E, it was only ever going to be an experimental design in this form. I do have an additional coach which you got the option to buy at the time, but its never been fitted to the train. I will show more of the little areas, but perhaps go to one of my layout tours from last year, these may show more of the little areas. As for signals, I am keeping them 12v DC controlled. I can change the signals when I flick a point, as the point morotrs are fitted with additional accessory switches to allow this to happen. Cheers. Dave

  • @mtty1988
    @mtty1988 Před 6 lety

    Could you wire signals to the DCC point controller and would they change as points are thrown
    Class 20 dose DCC / sounds know when a load is on so to make it speed up slower and have more grunt as it tried to accelerate.

  • @timyoung6841
    @timyoung6841 Před 6 lety +1

    Great update as always Dave, just love your layout and idea's. See your looking at ECos, I have that after a lot of research, amazing controller. If you haven't take a look at HoverMotion he has a fully automated layout and knows ECos inside out. He even shows you how to set parameters not in the manual. If you had enough track power ECos is capable of independently running simutainiously over 2000 locos in auto mode. Just shows the power of ECos.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      Hi Tim, yes the ecos is the Rolls Royce of systems. Its such a powerful beast. With all the movement to DCC point control I am needing something with a lot of grunt. It doent come cheap though, at £600! Plus all the DCC concepts boards etc...not much change from £1000 for upgrading my turnouts, storage yard and controller. Ah, its only money! lol. Dave

    • @timyoung6841
      @timyoung6841 Před 6 lety

      DaveClass47 That's the trouble updating actually cost more than starting from fresh as I did so run DCC Concepts point motors no need for control boxes apart from the surface ones I had to get. But what's cheap on a model railway nowadays 😃

  • @icklebean0365
    @icklebean0365 Před 6 lety +1

    I would recommend for a new dcc control as the digi trains dual controller, it works great on my clubs layout! If your look for a replacement for your elite controller.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      hi, I am looking at several, including the ecos!

  • @2KXMKR
    @2KXMKR Před 6 lety +1

    I love everything about DCC, but I have to admit you just can't get any better than a manual switch board for your yards and sidings. It adds that extra bit of depth of actually throwing the points yourself, just as the second man would do on the real thing.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      Hi, I will be throwing the points with toggles switches housed on my switch panel. The LED's on the panel will simply let me know which route is set, as I cannot see it (well I can with the CCTV). I don't want to throw them by touching a screen either. The Hornby Elite is going to be replaced with an upgraded controller soon.

  • @devilscoachman79
    @devilscoachman79 Před 6 lety

    I`ve been away from the hobby for around 3 years now and am just returning. The last few Bachmann class 47 locos I bought were all £69:50 from Rails of Sheffield, 32-815 was one of them in Intercity livery. Why has the cost of these models ballooned to £130+? The chassis is still the same and only the body shell paintwork is different, so why the massive price increase for a different livery? Or am I missing something here?

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      They BLAME the growth in Chinese wages. The claim that its also the weak £, they claim its raw material costs (but plastic is made from oil, which has been at record low prices).I joined the hobby in 2012 when a Class 47 was £70. Now its double. A mk2 Coach was £22, now its £44. Its ridiculous. My wages in that time....2% increase! Its become a very VERY expensive Hobby. But Bachmann don't seem to care, they just keep hiking the prices. (Hornby prices have gone up too, but not so drastically). Bachmann are bringing out MK2F coaches with DCC lighting in August, at an eye watering £70 each!

    • @devilscoachman79
      @devilscoachman79 Před 6 lety

      As a point of interest a complete Class 47 chassis bought direct from Bachmann spares department costs £58 (June 2018) so based on current prices of a complete locomotive (£135 from the big retailers), the plastic body shell costs £77.

    Great update Dave. Another couple of good reviews and plenty of progress to the control side of the layout too......
    In fact, Im just wondering if your control panels may end up rivaling the bridge of The Starship Enterprise!!!! Lol.
    I certainly dont envy all that wiring you still have to look forward to.... The loft must already be like a BT telephone exchange by now.
    Well done on the CCTV too. Im sure that more monitors and cameras will appear in the future.

    Very nice video Dave!

  • @ukdieselandelectricrailway1890

    Nice bit of work there Dave.
    Those solenoid decoders look very good, especially having a CDU built into them.
    I also like how they can be used to trigger the frogs in the points.
    I made a video last week that may be of some use to you... route control using JMRI (a free open-source program).
    Instead of flicking each point, you can press a single button which will trigger a sequence of points for you.
    czcams.com/video/VTq_MdEn7H0/video.htmlm40s
    The Bachmann 20 is a fine model (although it predates lighting as standard).
    I like the fact it hs both types of cab window (large and small), and all three variations of the bottom bar on the bogies... ribbed, ribbed with holes (as yours is), and solid bar.
    If a manufacturer released some Distillers CO2 tanks, like the ones that went to Cameron Bridge, they would be perfect for your class 20!
    The Mainline 47 is nice too.
    If you were to renumber it, it could become one of the Eastfield based (IEDA) locos which did Scottish internal InterCity trains, such as the Queen Street to Aberdeen and Dundee duties, as well as parcels and some freights.
    I look forward to seeing next month's update.

      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi, thanks for that info. Very interesting. Yes the DCC board is good. A nice piece of kit. I am not using the frog switching on the storage yard as I am hoping not to bother with frog switching in this area. When I upgrade the station side I may use this facility, but bearing in mind I have accessory switches on all my points I might just leave them as they are, but wire and power them into the DCC bus to allow DCC throwing of points. Cheers.Dave

    Great update. Some of it's a bit hi tech for me, but interesting nevertheless. The Class 20 sits very nicely with the rake of weathered tankers - do you plan on weathering it to match their care worn look?

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety

      Hi, yes at some point the 20 will be toned down to look more worn. Its in a very long list of shopping and weathering items. Its not that high tech....as I don't like it getting too complex either. it will be simple when its all done. I shall cover that in my future updates. Cheers. Dave
