      @@blandgreen4135 This scene and the one before show that our primal survival instinct is a double-edge weapon: Mann, in order to survive, explicitly lied about his planet so he could be rescued. His survival instinct caused the entire situation and, even in the end, he tried to lie to himself and to the Endurance's crew about it. Once the Endurance started spinning, though, it was Cooper's extremely risky move that saved the day. Cooper, especially during the Gargantua scene, became a far better man than Mann, both by docking in an extreme scenario, and by actually knowing when to let go.

      @@MikinessAnalog Well, if a movie is earth/human based, then yes, I agree that realism should take precedence over "artistic license". Like a silent explosion, or the harshness and unsurvivability of space.
      Interstellar is very much a human story, and as such it should follow "our" rules... And it does.
      But as many seem to forget - me included from time to time - every Star Wars movie begins with the words "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...", so not only does it take place in the past, it takes place in an entirely different galaxy... Luke, Han, Leia etc aren't human. They're human-shaped, but not humans, and Earth is nowhere to be seen.
      So even while "no sound in space" would still be eligible wherever Star Wars takes place, I am more than ok with granting it all kinds of artistic license, since it takes place in another world and another time.

Even though it’s not 100% scientifically accurate (and it shouldn’t be, it’s a movie after all)l they’ve done a good enough job for 99.9% people. When you keep something so close to reality, people are more interested. (One of the reason characters like batman are so darn popular)

    • @414pwz
      @414pwz Před 3 lety +124

      Exactly. Nolan set up twice earlier in the film how difficult it is. Super hero and alien movies skip over what they believe audiences find mundane and boring, but Nolan understands and represents that what we think is boring is still extremely difficult - like landing a plane for the first time, or backing a 53' trailer on the blind side into a dock - people think these things are easy until they try it... then they respect it. Nolan communicates the challenge through foreshadowing, dialog, and nuance (Hathaway passing out and waking up with her "how did you do this" expression). In an alien or superhero movie Will Smith would have done this nonchalant with a witty remark or two. The real artist uses their tools to communicate the gravity of situations to people who have never experienced them. Few people have ever had a knife or gun pulled on them, and they do not understand the fear and reality you are suddenly faced with. They see movies and think they would grab the knife or the gun and punch their assailant. I think the reason film makers favor over the top is because in a way it is less challenging than really understanding and communicating what makes a little old knife scary on the big screen, so they go with a laser canon. When a knife goes in you feel the cold of the blade. A laser canon sounds good compared to that. Using real story telling to help your audience understand the challenges the characters face when they have never done anything like it... that is art.

      @The Comedian no offence but that’s just not true. And sorry but u can’t say that if you don’t understanding the science behind that movie and just science in general. I don’t understand all things of physics but I understand the science behind this movie. And that concludes quantum physics, general relativity and the string theory (yes I know that last one is proven partly incorrect but still). Oh yeh don’t think I’m some sort of student. I’m just an interest 14 year old lol.

      I was there 😀 Sound-wise, It was like watching the movie in IMAX x 10. Better still, I think it was the musicians that recorded the soundtrack, including Hans Ziimer on keyboards and it was preceded by a talk between Hans Zimmer, Chris Nolan, Kip Thorne, Prof. Brian Cox and Stephen Hawking IIRC.

    Even 6 years later, the most intense cinematic experience I've ever witnessed. Hearing the live orchestra play and the audience breaking into spontaneous applause after "Killing main engines!" is icing on the cake.

      Kennedy Lajustra if you compare with the movie version, we ça notice music here starts later. In the movie, music starts loudly Just after he said "docking" and here there is few seconds before. These details add something different making this performance unique. That's very interesting :)

    i appreciate how the orchestra suddenly stops during the explosion since it's from the perspective of being on a vacuum.
    adding sound over explosions in space is always silly, because the alternative (total silence) is way more engaging and eerie
