One thing I love about Omanyala is that he's showing that distance running isn't all the Kenyans can do. He's breaking a stereotype to lead to something new. Just like that Kenyan javelin thrower Julius Yego. And what's more impressive is that the first African sprinter to run a sub 9.80 second 100m isn't even of west African origin or descent, breaking another stereotype. Ferdinand Omanyala has done something truly historic indeed.

Frankie Fredericks, a Namibian, won double silver twice at the Olympics (1992 & 1996) in the 100m & 200m. His records are 9.86s & 19.68s respectively.
No other African, West Africa included, has done that so far.
Simbine, a South African, had the record before Omanyala broke it.
The 400m world record is also held by a South African; Wayde Van Niekerk.
So I don't get where this West African thing comes from.

These times are pointless if he cannot replicate it when it matters, which is at the Olympics/WC. He ran in Tokyo and did nothing. And this was run at altitude. They say that the high altitude helps the sprinters, but it is a nightmare for the dance runners. He ran 10.00 in his semi, which wasn't good enough to make the final as one of the fastest losers. Bromell, same thing. Bromel ran 9.77 in June or there abouts, and he won the Usa trails in 9.80, annnd was the favorite in Tokyo, but he didn't even make the final. And now, when the season is ending, he's running 9.76? These times are irrelevant if they cannot produce them on the big stage, because it isn't like they broke the WR.

Additionally, this was the 20th time Bromell has gone under 10 seconds, which is exactly the same amount as Coleman (who’s 20th run was also 9.76). Furthermore, each of their 9.76’s were also both for their 7th time under 9.9, as well as their second time under 9.8. Fascinating how all of those things aligned so well.
