I once heard someone give the best description as to why Hester is such a beast kick returner. It's not that his top speed is so great (although it is up there with the fastets guys), it's that his acceleration is so great. While one guy might be able to reach 20 mph, and Hester can only reach 15, it's Hester's ability to reach that 15 right away that separates him from the rest. His start speed is so quick and fast, that it gives him a major advantage at returning kicks.

When players and fans think of the U they think and remember Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Andre Johnson, Sean Taylor, Jimmy Graham...but people never think of Hester's name. It's crazy because he's by far the greatest return man of all time, especially in his prime he was invincible.

The smooth transition into acceleration, the vision, the speed he is the greatest to ever do it at that position. He was the reason I wore the 4 in highschool. The way he cuts and is able to keep accelerating at top speed the upper body strength to break thru tackles. You can tell he's a true florida boy he stayed in the field chasing them rabbits

At :50 2 guys bumping into themselves and he wasn't even going that way. He had the other teams tackling themselves. Once he got to Chicago (by the way everybody hated using that pick on him) they showed him how to run without having to go backwards he did that very little in Chicago in the beginning and never at the end. He could cut and change direction always while keeping his strides moving forward. His returns to the house if u blinked u missed it cause he was always gong forward

Which is understandable because he probably had more natural ability than the coaches could handle. when he got to the NFL, Chicago knew he could be even better, so they disciplined his running style so he wouldn't waste time doing all the extra jukes and backwards running.

Well at the end of his days at Chicago he started doing it a little more but who could blame him? Listen the Bears had an awesome defense, and a terrible offense. Devin was are number one reciever , Devin was a TERRIBLE receiever , at that point he's all we had and trying to return punts or kickoffs for touchdowns doesn't work or else everybody be doing it. It was the Bears fault they put way 2 much pressure on him. Idk is he still in the league I hope he owns all return records alone one day he if anyone deserved it.
