America did have a hand in overthrowing the Ukrainian government. The Russian installed Ukrainian government that Ukrainian's wanted no part of. Putin's last chance to take the 7trillion dollar revenue of eastern Ukraine away from Ukraine by declaring it's all Russia. He couldn't do it for 20 years through coercion of Ukraine governmental agencies, so he just plain and simply invaded militarily. Wether it’s loss of personal, loss of territory and even criticizes some of their conduct. For example, he recently called out a Ukrainian legion that was accused of committing war crimes. That Seth William Baker is suspicious as all hell. I was in the army, not the marines, but if I'm not mistaken, the next rank up from lance corporal is corporal, right? That's an NCO rank. (I don't think "specialist" is a thing in the marines.) So if you were due to get promoted to NCO the next month, you had some retainability. (Though I suppose it's possible, I doubt the Marines are much different than the army in that regard.) Therefore, you couldn't "join the police academy," because you were in the active duty military. You can't be both a soldier and a cop in a civilian police department at the same time, that's not a thing... And what he says about "freedom in America?" Yeah, that shit doesn't apply when you're in the active duty military. When you're in the active duty military, you're government property, and you aren't allowed to disobey a medical order. Everybody who's ever served a day knows that. Oh, and, by the way, nobody carries their basic training photo around with them. I lost mine more than 20 years ago. It seems that the United States has some reservations about Russia, perhaps because they perceive them as a rival. Then they attempt to influence their population to harbor negative sentiments toward Russia.
It would be fair to say that they still believe themselves to be the freest nation. This idea has its roots in the First World War, when the US was the only democracy. However, it is worth noting that most Americans still consider themselves to be the freest and that nobody else has human rights. (I didn't believe it until i visited the US myself)
They value their flag highly. It occupies a similar position in their hearts to that of their religion. It is displayed in churches, and they recite the Pledge of Allegiance, which could be seen as a form of prayer to their flag.
In summary, there is a disdain for Russia at the government level, which in turn forces an impact on public opinion.

This is actually a very useful video in showing just how loopy some of the thinking is or just how deviant some of the behaviors are that lead Americans to fully commit themselves to the Russian narrative. But the ones who devote their lives to the Kremlin war machine are the extremes. There are boat-loads of soft supporters of Russian propaganda within the US who are a lot less fully committed but are still dangerous en masse due to the disinformation they spread in political discourse. Unfortunately, some of these people hold high offices within the US government.
