It was over 2 consecutive nights at the massive country house estate called 'Knebworth'. Both nights selling out in just over 48 hours, both nights hit capacity of 250K people, but on the 2nd night half way through the concert they opened the gates to let in between 50K & 75K people who had been ripped off with fake tickets, making it the biggest audience to ever see one act at that time. In 1970 at the 'Isle of Wight Festival' 500K people payed to see Hendrix, Free, The Who, Janis Joplin & many many more band's but Led Zeppelin beat that number on their own.
I was there. About 100 yards from the stage. Hadn’t seen them since Earls Court in 1975, which had been mostly awesome. This was mostly less so but it got better from around half way through. It didn’t help that they were about 90 minutes late getting on stage and the bass wasn’t plugged in for the first three songs! I hate open air festival concerts as a rule anyway but this was my favourite band so I had to be there. The young woman I was with passed out during “ Sick Again”, ironically. This footage is ok but the official DVD is much better ( I appreciate the copyright issues involved of course ). Jimmy looks about half the man he was in ‘75 and frankly sounds like he’s learning to play Zep numbers during a guitar tuition lesson at times. It’s still better than anyone else though! Thanks again for the effort and input both of you. Best wishes from a grumpy old windbag in England 🏴.
I thought JPJ sounded remarkably absent in the first three songs, I thought I was going mad. Now ii know why they sounded so harsh and unbalanced. It also kinda exposed Jimmys carpal tunnel fingers. They warm up by Nobody's fault but mine though. He started moving them like old times
if you want a monster gig then check out, listen to this eddie. no video but myu god the audio is incredible! bonham wasnt human that night. his drums sound like artillery!!!
7.50 pounds to see a ZEP concert back then, wow. The eighties started to create inflation on speed. Back then it was commonplace to pay less than $20 to get a great concert seat. I paid $10 to sit in the lawn at Alpine Valley Wisconsin, Black Sabbath was playing. Jimmy was handling that 12 string with great effort. In his young days and more sober, The Song Remains the Same was no sweat. Here you can read his face, his mind is writing checks that his body can't cash, unlike the endless stamina he had from the more vibrant early days. Still able to keep up, but the struggle was starting. Bonham's drums sound very punchy, heavily mic'd up. Robert and JPJ were ready for the eighties. Thanks for the memories!
NFBM for me is a definite standout from Knebworth - edgy & inspired. The whole band cookin' on all cylinders here...great latter days stuff from The Mighty Zep...Thx U2 👍🔥🔥🔥🌋🌋🌋
Yay Knebworth. At last. Not their finest gigs both August 4th was the better night of the two they did. It will be interesting to get your reaction to it.
It’s always going to be one of those big questions of what would an 80s Zeppelin been like? Page was heavily under the influence of his heroin addiction by this point, Plant was still unsure about a career in music, Bonham was struggling with his alcoholism. Yet when they played together they still rocked.
Fortunately I have video and audio bootlegs of both shows....my personal preference is the 8/11 show...they seemed to iron out a few bugs in the week between. Either way...these are the first major shows following the death of Karac, which is significant.
Yes between Karac’s death, & Page’s heroine addiction being really bad by then. Plant’s vocals post surgery aren’t quite the same, but still better then all others, you can tell he’s missing his passion some. I still would have given anything to be there, or any of their concerts.
Gratefully & Thankfully **MyBeautifulJimmyPageMagicalMythicalMusicalGeniusWizardBabe** got thru it so F YEA!!! **RockON!!!** **MyJimmyPageGloriousGift** to this **Crazyass World** **Peace**
About the way they’re dressed, I’m thinking maybe more of a dress code was required, just a guess. It seems odd they all are, but it is England so who knows.
If you haven’t seen their movie The Song Remains The Same, I highly recommend it. I saw it decades ago when it was in theaters, & just watched it last week. It was filmed at their (1973) Madison Square Gardens concert, buy rent or free with ads on CZcams.
Lovin that ticket price. Miss those days, lol. Killer shirt! Awesome butterfly 🦋 My ears might be hallucinating, but did you call Bonzo monzo at that first drum fill? I'm only asking for my own mental health 🙃 Have a Kickass weekend you two! 🤙🤘☮️
F YEA!!!! **MyBeautifulJimmyPageMagicalMysticalGeniusWizardBabe** Made it Thru which i am so very very **Grateful & Thankful** for indeed!!! BUT to me anyway he looks like a **TotalBabe** to me here! & course **ALWAYS** again for me anyway heh Thank **YOU** YAY **RockON!!!** **PixieHugz&LuvzALL** P.S. My gawd THAT is THE most **Beautiful** **Butterfly Necklace EVER!!!** YAY **Luvit**
Okay, I'll tell - my chums and I were at the back of that vast crowd and Zep looked smaller than matchsticks. Good thing they had that large screen but there was a sound delay due to the distance@@MusicforBusyPeople
What do you expect with an audience of 250K people, that's why you have push your way through the crowd if you really want to see the definitive band in history.

I was 18, and if you count about 4,456 back 66,789 left who knows maybe you see a kid in absolute awe! 😂😂😂
achilles last stand from these gigs is brilliant
That is so iconic
Absolutely!

i think 250 THOUSAND people turned up to see them at these 2 weekends
Love you're back to Zeppelin guys.
It was their first time playing back in England in 4 years and also their very last.
They're last time
I was there, aged 15 on the first day.
Jimmy's parents were at one of these concerts.
wow Knebweth, some ruff moments. I feel they always needed a couple of song to warm up
You're exactly right with that quote
Now that u mention it those songs seem tough to kick it off with...........But then again what do i know?
Anything that required a jamming guitar solo or Plants high voice were not good openers later on
Sooooo freaking good!
Much better from around half way through. Check out my comments Julie please.

I am going to try to incorporate some footage from the DVD, but it mostly gets blocked.
Yeah his solos sucked post 75
He was jacked on H.

So far it's better than I thought it would be. We are focusing on Aug 4th, and that sounds like the right choice.

Rusty and harsh the first three songs but Wham bam they hit on Nobody's fault but mine
Heroin will take the weight off

yeh :( glad he sorted himself out in the 80s
I was going to say the same thing.

No, "Bonzo" ... but Monzo is kind of a cool nickname, too.
I went to the Second Concert they did in Knebworth. What a let down. They were a shell of what they were in 73.
One question bro, would you get that shirt?Love it
Unfortunately, it was a fly-by-night online store that no longer exists.

I was there to see my all time fave band and didn't enjoy it. I won't elaborate unless you ask
Sorry to hear it
Elaborate.

Is that LZIII tshirt on their website? I can't seem to find it
No, I got it from a fly-by-night online store that no longer exists.
Ah that's a shame, thanks anyway @@MusicforBusyPeople
Jimmy Page was looking the way he was in that concert because he had a heroin addiction at the time that made him look even more skinny than normal
Jimmy played a very rare gibson doubleneck guitar for over 20000 us bucks. Bye till next time.
