What to study for Crimes like IPC or BNS for UPSC 2025.
The syllabus mentions "Law of Crimes" and if the new BNS is notified then definitely we will follow the new law. However, the concept of basic aspects llike mens rea, accident, negligently, common object, culpable homicide and murder remains same and only the sections have changed. What has changed though in the new BNS is addition of some new offences and ordering of such offences and omission of some terms from the previous IPC. The idea is still to focus on the basics based on previous years questions as case laws remains the same. To now more about BNS, see the following lectures:
