- A detailed demonstration of the startup of a late nineteen-twenties Caterpillar model Sixty. During it's years of production, the 60 was the largest crawler in Caterpillar's catalogue, weighing in at 19,000lbs. Built from 1925 until 1931, the 60 was a highly successful design that Caterpillar inherited from the C. L. Best Tractor Company when the Holt Manufacturing Company merged with the former to create the Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1925. C.L. Best had began building the 60 in 1919. Powered by a massive inline four cylinder engine displacing 1128.2 cubic inches (18.5 litres), the sixty developed 72 flywheel horsepower at a mere 650 RPM. Top speed is stated at 3.6mph (5.8km/h). The sixty excelled at both industrial and agricultural jobs and continued to do so long after machines where fielded to replace it. Pioneer Acres Museum, Irricana, Alberta.

да по аглицки я не понимаю!кстати что он маслёнкой мажет перед запуском?
Stumbled upon this place while on a road trip with my wife. Talked her into going. She was bored to tears and we walked around for almost 5 hours and I didnt want to leave grinning war to ear. We were the only people there in september a few years ago and the people were kind enoughto let us tour the truck restoration exhibit on our own. What an amazing collection. Had a great time. Thank you
So glad you enjoyed!
I like how you can see the clutch engaging.
Sure is handy when you need to adjust it.
Very good
Thanks for showing us this fine old machine...I like the old Caterpillar logo on the radiator.
Thanks, kind of neat to see the logo change over the decades.
The quality of the video is fantastic, as is that old Cat. Very impressed. Thank you for this.
What an amazing piece of history that is. I love seeing old machines start using like new.
Everything about that was good. Particularly exciting was seeing the clutch engage and hearing the whole contraption as it lurched forward. I want one! Thanks for that.
The open clutch makes shifting and engaging super easy.
1925: We are gonna have Tractors in the future that Start Themselves!
2019: Can't Start Engine. Firmware update Required, Please contact John Deere for a Technician.
Only to find out that the part is no longer supported despite it works just fine
Brutally true.
check fuel comming , check ignition point setted right-if you dont know that - tell me how many cylinders, and is it stright 4, v4,stright6, v6 , or v8- i can tell you witch piston must be up first and witch ventils must be open, or closed for to get it working...
Get a Fendt uuuugh. JD Crap LOL
I grew up riding in my Grandpa's 5400 so I have a love for John Deere but it saddens me to hear that kind of DRM, field-serviced equipment they have.
Ah well, at least I don't have to deal with that playing FS19.
Great video! Really enjoyed seeing it as my grandfather had one of these machines with a dozer. Never understood why he sold it until I watched this startup routine. He replaced it with an Allis Chalmers HD7 and later replaced that with the Caterpillar D4 that I still have. Alot of work done by crawlers over the years.
An amazing engine on an equally stunning tool, starting right away and doing what it has always done, works. A good video .
Thanks for watching, it is a pleasure to run her.
Wow! That's an amazing amount of work that goes into just starting it!
Show of hands! Who had to stop the video and pee after he filled the radiator??? Nice video and thank you from a CAT line technician for keeping this piece of history running!!!
Super cool, thanks so much for watching, I'm glad to be apart of her preservation.
What an amazing machine. It's a shame how most companies today have forgotten how to build things to last.
P.S. A funnel can work wonders. :-)
They know how to build, but they want a machine that breaks down so u buy a new one, thats capitalism.
Caterpillar should go back to that logo, Looks epic.
That's what I was thinking
Yeah pretty neat.
Same tractor they used to run the Okies off their farms in the Grapes of Wrath...pretty intimidating . Great upload, thank you
Neat, I have heard that film referenced a few times, I will have to watch it.
Love the rhythm of it as it's backing into the shed.
Fine work! Your well shot video lets the machine speak for itself.
So many steps to starting this old beast. So freaking cool though!
Me encanto
Que épocas y no se rompían jamás
Excellent machine, video and editing. Well done!
Thank you so much.
I have pictures of a sixty pulling road construction equipment. I liked them so much I made some large prints to decorate my home. It was cool to see it run on video. Thank you.
No problem, glad you liked it.
absolutely awesome/ Loved the video. Never seen one started like that. Only seen em started with a crank. Thanks for the video
No worries, glad you likes it.
About 100years have passed since the tractor produced. It is woderful to see the normal running of a tractor Caterpillar!!😊😊😊
Man I thought she was gonna light off on the first pull , great job really enjoyed watching 😆👍👍
Almost perfect.
Beautiful machine, great vid
I’m a member of a club and someone had the Best version of this and damn it was awesome to see and hear!
Super cool, the Best is a rarity to see indeed.
Rainhill1829 Yeah. It was actually the first time I have ever seen this this style of before and I don’t think I’m going to forget for as long as I live !
Звук волшебный. Не каждый музыкант так порадовать сможет.
Nice Sixty and it started so easy (Heath and Safety are not involved as I did not see any High-Visibility jackets being worn while starting this machine lols) But the Sixty did just jump into life so I guess you know what your doing and look after this awesome machine. Thanks for the video dude ;)
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed.
Красота,и мощь+ надёжность!!!
Yeah I know!
Absolutely Beautiful! I want one. Thanks for sharing.
This and machinery like this built the world. It would still do a days work today.Amazing American innovation.
Its a really fantastic machine, even now almost a century later.
The Cat60 is my favorite tractor. Lovely hunk of iron!
It's a great machine, I am quite honored to operate it.
Generador
can just imagine, one early morning you just finished you morning coffee, you walk you and begin work for the day. first you gotta go thuogh the process and start this beast up, and get it ready for a day of construction or farm work etc. just the sound alone to me sings mornings for some reason, and a day of hard work, idk why XD
WELLINGTON@gmail.com 🤣🤣🤣 0 Wellington Victor Santos 😋😋😋📢
No computers or other electronics to go wrong, just simple mechanical engineering, you can't beat it. That engine started so willingly....beautiful.
Thanks, she is a good runner.
What a lovely old beast!
Nice machine, there was one of these at this years great dorset steam fair(uk), it said on the information board that i would burn 6 gallons of petrol (gas) per hour. it had been converted to propane, you have a super museum thanks for all the videos
Propane conversion? Neat. Thanks for watching, someday I wish to visit the Dorset show.

Imagine riding this beast with a couple of mounted machineguns into a battle like " alright rusty boi, ready for one last ride?" And then going down with this beast in the manliest way possible
Hell yeah.
HELL TO THE YES.
That is one cool old tractor.
Nice!!!!(sweet start up.... hand bar is awesome!!!)
Love that kinda cute Caterpillar-Logo on the radiator, somewhat like "The Very Strong Caterpillar" :-)
Yeah, the logo from that era was rather comical.
Love that luxury canopy!
It looks suspiciously like drainage culvert but it is original, I swear.
wow, that calls old is gold. thanks for your video. I ever saw
Thanks.
You comment on everything and write "calls" what the heck are you talking about?
Sophisticated start sequence!
It definitely takes a bit of doing to get her going in the morning, mostly it is just double checking the positions of controls.
awesome piece of Caterpillar history love it i need one to mow my yard
Its good fun, cant imagine what it would do to your lawn.
☝🤩👍Danke für das gute Video!Lowtech ist einfach und schön! Robust und unkaputtbar!😍
All things considered what a smooth n easy start, runs like a top!
She is a good runner as long as you do your proper startup checks, great machine to drive too, it could still pull with the best of them.
What can there possibly be to not like here? The video does exactly what it said ..... It's a symphony!
They expected electric start.😆
@@Rainhill1829 You're probably right!
Thank goodness for modern machines.
AC is definitely nice, but its always a thrill to run machines from the past.
After the next Carrington EMP,those pre-1994,equipment,and tractors, are going to be worth their weight in gold!! Steam traction, and multifuel engines, will rule the roost, and vultures also will have come calling!! Simply put,far too much dependence on technology that is far too delicate! They want WW3,but the aftermath,is something they don't want to consider! Thanks for a beautiful restoration, and love the sound!! Oldies, but goodies,Thanks!!
Awesome! Thank you.
Nice.
Positively wonderful. Thanks for posting!
The way that man started that was pure class
Thanks so much.
It's a wonderful machine! Thanks for your video.
Thanks so much.
Love it! Cheers from Portugal!
Thanks so much, good day from Canada.
excelent video! thanks man and greeting from serbia
Thanks so much, glad you liked it.
She runs mint!
That was cool!
Fun , Thanks for being a good Stewart of such awesome history.
Thank you so much, we will take good care of them.
Thank you for posting . I have built scale models of the Russian versions, Holt supplied the technical help to start up the factories. Great to see a. " real one " . What a tribute to the engineering of the time that it still runs so well . John .
Holt did some amazing work, it's a real honor to drive some of their designs.
Hi , you bet, I agree about it being an honor. An interesting thing is the track system seems it never needed to be upgraded.Thunder models are bringing out the US 60 this October and the Russian version . Hope to see some more of your videos. John
excellent camera work and editing - quality video
Thanks so much, I try my best.
Wunderbares Video.Tolle Maschine!
Vielen Dank, sehr glücklich, dass Sie genossen.
Started better than my pick up
The way he crank the engine makes me really nervous......
Me too.
@@Rainhill1829 - 😆
@@Rainhill1829 what would happen if you didn't get the rod out of the crank hole in time ?
That really looks dangerous. I wonder how many have been hit in the head or lost an arm from that metal rod from an attention loss during starting.
The holes are designed in that way that the rod flips out
What a wonderful machine!
Thanks so much.
thrilling and dangerous starting procedure!
you could see the reliefs in the flywheel, the bar will only transmit torque in one direction, so as soon as it tries to start it kicks the tip of the bar out of the flywheel. not quite as dangerous as it looks.
Amazing videos thanks
The engine sounds so good...
We do our best to keep her running as good as we can.
I stopped paying attention on how to start this machine after the 4th step. Need notes and reminders to get this thing going. God bless these old timers who worked their tails off during these times.
Yep, crazy respect for folks who did ten plus hour days on them.
My fasmily has a few older cats like a diesel 40, but nothing like that awesome old 60. she fired easily. Must be well cared for
We try to keep her in the best possible condition, the extremely robust design helps.
NICE BRASS FUNNEL TO COMPLIMENT THE FINE ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING!!
Excellent video!
Thank you, glad you liked it.👍
What a beautiful machine and excellent video!
Thank you so much!
she is gorgeous I would love to see what she could still pull thanks so much for posting this video reminds me of the days working the farm with my grandfather when I was little and our antique tractor. still an equipment operator to this day but those old ones are special.
Thanks so much, she still pulls like a mighty beast.
I find these videos mesmerizing
Thanks so much.
4.40 tap tap job done ! Excellent
Like a pat on the back...
You bet.
I would love to own one like that I like the bar start
Nice.
Incredible machine, I Love it!
Yes wery gut
everybody flexing on expensive sports cars until this dude comes
operator and engine under same roof adds to synergy between man and machine.
It's paradise.
Very good job and video
Doubles as the worlds record holder for metal bar flinging during backfires.
Rick Foley For sure.
Very cool!
Wouw it's amazing engine.
Thanks so much.
Nicely done my friend. Needless to say, i seriously would think that rheft of this machine is a non issue
Nope, not an issue.
obrigado pelo video...
Nice video. What a noise these machines made in those days......
Oh yes its pure music.
@@Rainhill1829 It sure is.
Well done Sir.
Thanks so much.
Great video
Thanks so much.
Sehr schöner Film :-)
I don’t normally comment but that was a great video , greeting from England
Thanks so much, I am very happy you liked it. Cheers from Canada.
Beautiful
Great machine And sound 👍👍👌😉
very nice, thanks for video
No problem, glad you enjoyed.
Beautiful. I wonder how many accident people had back in the day. Also I do guess they were more patient working with slow equipment. In the end it's sound like music drum's
It was definitely a different time, you needed to have your wits about you.
great clip! lovely to see how many safety features are incorporated into the design. what's the psi rating on the radiator cap?
Thanks, it's an interesting design. The cooling system is atmospheric, no pressure at all.
Such a easy start.
i can just imagine that bar getting stuck and flipping out into the air. thank goodness for the pony motors
Very nice
Ai é quie uma relíquia da caterpillar. 1829 concertesa foi o primeiro que ós Americanos Lançaram.
1929 not 1800 lol
Ok this has bad ass written all over it. I don't know why yet but I need one on my farm
Nice peace of machine!!
Thanks.
