  • The Brompton telescoping seat post option is not for everybody, however there maybe a reason you may want one anyway.

    There is another reason to choose a telescopic seatpost, and that is that the internal part, the extensible one, has the same diameter as a regular seatpost, making it much easier to make a replacement to solve a problem in the middle of a trip. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina :)

      @Alien On a Bike Exactly, but I don't recommend these posts, they absorb a very little part of the irregularities of the terrain, and in the other side, a very high amount of pedaling effort. In my point of view and experience, are the most "As seen on TV" bike part 😁😁

    A telescope post is really heavy, and besides its top being removable for transport, you are able to buy longer seat posts, also from Titanium (China) ! And my Scandinavian model was delivered with a long 600 mm post as standard, from the shop! Today I use a 535 mm titanium post as a test, for being able to put it directly in my black B&W travel box, but it is too short. Finn. Denmark

    Great helpful video - thanks so much. Being able to remove it easily and to still be able to fold down beyond what you can with the extended one is a game changer.

    I’m 5 11 and found the standard stem just that bit too short even flipping the pentaclip was not quite enough. I was getting knee pain so got the non telescopic extended stem. I’m cheap 😀 and it was only £20 GBP. Not as good as the telescopic stem but it’s been perfect for me and was an easy swap.

    Nice videos. I'm a proud Brompton owner myself. Never had such a versatile bike. I can also recommend you the Cateye BM-45 mirror. Almost invisible and give you a good rear view. The standard bell on the bike is not good. Way too soft and impossible to ring when wearing gloves in the winter. Looking forward seeing more videos with tips, tricks and experiences(-:

    • @ibikeunfolded
      @ibikeunfolded  Před 4 lety +1

      Alan Gillanders being shorter definitely has its advantages. Being taller creates more problems when you need the right seat adjustment on the Brompton. That’s why I got the telescoping seat.😀

    ....Oh no! Now I definitely have to replace my preinstalled telescopic one: its not only the weight, the fact that I m short with short legs, the fact that no flight company will let you get it in the cabin anyways... You also just reminded me how easily the telescopic seat can be stolen.... 😨!

    Another good reason I have heard, is that you can extend the second stage to wheel the Brompton around but leave the 1st stage down to keep the Brompton locked and prevent it unfolding. Maybe this depends on arm length and the individual's height as to whether this is comfortable, any thoughts?

    • @ibikeunfolded
      @ibikeunfolded  Před 4 lety +2

      When the first stage is all the way down it hits the ground and stops the Brompton from moving. I think what you are suggesting will work if you raise the first stage up slightly too.

  • @johnnymac8680
    @johnnymac8680 Před 4 lety +1

    I'm only 5' 8" with rather short legs so a telescopic seat post is not needed. I have taller relations who may want to use my bike so the long seat post is useful there.

    • @ibikeunfolded
      @ibikeunfolded  Před 4 lety +1

      I agree, I like the telescoping more other reasons as well, like easy seat removal, and compatibility with different seat post accessory mounting.

    Could you tell me what the diameter of the second stage tube is? I'm rooting* for 27.2mm, so I could replace that part with another suspension seat post (Suntour, Kinekt, etc): Another reason to go for a telescopic one 🙂
