  • The long-awaited #ToyotaGrandHighlander has finally arrived and its one of the few players in the segment to offer not one, but two different hybrid powertrains. The #GrandHighlander takes the already likeable #ToyotaHighlander platform and stretches it to the max. With the #GrandHighlanderHybridMax, #Toyota is promising on both power and fuel-efficiency and it finally has the interior space and cargo room that American families are looking for.

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend! The timing worked out well because we will be posting two full reviews on the 2024 Lexus TX 500h and TX 550h+ on Weds, which most of you should know, is the Lexus equivalent of the Grand Highlander. Stay tuned for our full driving impressions on that vehicle in just a couple days!

Would love your opinion on the interior of the Grand Highlander Platinum vs the TX. From the pictures I can't tell if the Lexus TX is worth the premium price. Judging from pictures alone, it seems to me Toyota didn't do enough on the TX to differentiate the interior from the highest trim of the Grand Highlander.

The major thing I would really like to see in the next year is when you use your directional signal that the digital gauge would open up into a view of what is along your side like what is in the KIA's. The side mirrors have a camera in them, and when you use your directional signal, you see what is alongside of you. I personal think it's a fantastic safety feature. I'm still somewhat undecided on what one to get at the end of this year. The Hybrid Max has more HP and plenty of smaller Cargo space VS the Kia Telluride. The Telluride sx prestige & x pro is less expensive.

Like if I buy a Mustang, I prefer a V-8 over a four-cylinder a Camaro, well I’d rather choose a V6 over a four-cylinder if you like 4cylinders that’s your choice and I respect that I have a six cylinder Camry and I like it I used to have a four-cylinder and it just didn’t have that much power and the noise of the edging was just too loud for me. It sounded like a lawnmower. The emissions of a V6 doesn’t have that much affect.

We did test 2 other Grand Highlanders and they are both doing the same thing. Almost 5000 miles on a 24 Grand Highlander Platinum Max Hybrid. I think you are overstating your opinion. Our experience is a quiet, solid, powerful and very roomy car. the closing doors are not clunky or rattly. The only complaint is the mileage as yet is averaging 24.3 not 27 as advertised. On the other hand it is a rocket ship when needed. Third seat has more room than any third seat offering from other brands. This is our fifth Hylander, second Hybid and first Grand Highlander. You will not be disappointed if you can buy one of these cars. Which brings up the main problem, getting one is very difficult because of supply issues.

the fact this car is ALWAYS on back order means thats an extra type to make to add to the already under stocked vehicles already out there.
umm idk, maybe it COULD work. but check your local area, extended area, state, and tristate area to area what dealerships even have this vehicle.
i mean, the demand is there but the supply isnt. so why make an extra model that could be a hit and miss when any toyota grand highlander hybrid is flying off the warehouses BY THE BACK ORDERssss.
ask any dealer what their back orders look like, and its at least 3 or more.
theres aleady 3 trims just by fuel type currently.
      1) gas
      2) hybrid
      3) hybrid max
which is even before the amenity trims are factored in.
i could be wrong. im NOT a dealer, salesman, nor do I work with Toyota in any facet. so i hope your wish comes true.
but to me, choice overload doesnt seem like a great idea. it caters to NICHE people but not the masses.
anyone can use a standard hybrid, PHEVs need additional accomodations. which adds 2 additional costs, 1) on the vehicle and 2) on the home owner. (of which not all people own homes) so sadly the niche of needing a vehicle buyer to also be a homeowner makes PHEVs less viable. but yeah, good luck😅

You do a nice review on the Grand Highlander but you are missing a few points. The regular Platinum Highlander Hybrid gets 35mpg city, 35mpg highway which is almost 30%better efficiency than this Grand Highlander. I just did an all day trip to Utah from Wyoming(mountainous) and got an average 37.5 mpg. The styling of the Grand Highlander is a box. It doesn’t even come close to the elegant sporty styling of the regular Highlander. The rear bumper of the boxy G- Highlander is flush with the lift gate and will incur huge damage if struck in the rear. With there being only 100 lbs differential between the two models and the size differential, Toyota had to make some cuts. One being the lack of acoustical glass, door structures, etc. in the G - Highlander. The regular Highlander is super quiet and smooth. And you didn’t mention the difference in price. I won’t even go there because it’s so obvious.

@@lc7192 we did not have the hybrid. We did have AWD. We had the V6 thrashing on the highway. It did come with the factory roof rails. The Michelin’s were quieter than the good years but the main problem was wind noise above 50 miles an hour which started on day one it’s not a defect. When this redesign first came out, reviewers and owners talked about the pronounce wind noise about 50 miles an hour it’s not a secret and It’s a characteristic of that car it’s still a great car, but we traded it in for a 4Runner which is much quieter on the highway.

I honestly don't understand Toyota or Lexus, and maybe someone can help explain to me why they continue to miss the mark for family haulers. For those of us with 3 kids, there really is no good solution for a 3 row SUV full stop. Either you have to get base trims, base powertrains, and get a 3 row with a 3 seat bench second row, or you are forced to take a 2 seat second row, and forced to sacrifice your cargo area as you have to use at least one of the third row seats at all times. Take the new Grand Highlander. You can't get the Hybrid Max powertrain with a 3 seat bench, period, regardless of the trim level. Why? It's worse in the Lexus line up. With the TX, you can only get a 3 seat bench with the non Hybrid powertrain, meaning if you want a 3 seat 2nd row bench, you have to give up on great fuel economy. Why? Toyota is not alone in this respect. It seems like there is a conspiracy (joking) in the auto industry that if you want the best powertrain, if you want the higher trim levels, you don't want a 2nd row bench I fail to see the correlation. Mazda CX90 keeps the 2nd row bench as an option in all trims, but the 3rd row is seriously compromised. Honda Pilot keeps the 2nd row bench option, but their powertrain is not fuel efficient, it's their tried and true V6 which is way off the back in terms of fuel economy. Even in th Toyota Sienna, if you get AWD, you can't get a 2nd row bench, and this is a minivan for crying out loud, a family hauler, that well, can't haul families? It makes no sense. Chrysler Pacifica, if you want the plug in hybrid, forget about a 2nd row bench (yes, I know it has to do with the battery pack weight, and staying within their GVWR/GCWR parameters, but why not bump those up a couple hundred pounds and give us a bench seat? Stellantis has had years to fix this issue, but they don't care). Stellanrts offers a 2nd row bench in nearly all trim levels of the new Wagoneer/Wagoneer L, but that is a vehicle which is $20k more than unibody 3row SUVs, pretty pricey. It's extremely frustrating when yu can't find a good, fuel efficient (27+ MBG combined) 3 row, with a bench seat and a mid or high level trim. It makes no sense to me, and suggests and auto OEMs are just out of touch with what families want.

This way they hedge their bet: roll out a new product that lines up better against the competition, even having 2 products that exist in the segment. They can then choose favorites. Only a company with the size and resources of Toyota has the ability to do this. They are being conservative and cautious. As the years go on they will assess how each car is selling and likely drop the original highlander or reconfigure it somehow
