Which Parrot Should I Get?

- It's SUPER important to do your research before getting a pet bird. In this video I talk about what 5 birds I personally considered as my first bird and which of the 5 I chose and why.
Please note I am in no means a professional, I'm very new to owning birds and these are not recommendations as first time birds, these are ones that I was considering after doing over a month of research about which birds would be best for my own lifestyle.

The Bronze wing is my dream bird. I can't even find a WAITING list to get on in America! They are pretty rare here (USA). I'm glad you got your wcp! He's adorable!
Bronze wings are pretty rare here in the UK too. I only know of a handful of people who own them and only know of 1 breeder.
Oh my goodness, I feel like you’ve been listening to my thoughts. I’ve done a ton of research too and have gone back and forth but a Pionus is at the top of my list too! Good luck, I hope you can get that sweet little one.
Cool video. I have several birds including GCC. I just got a Blue Headed Pionus because I also wanted a bigger bird. Very happy with her ;)

After researching, I came to the exact same conclusion for very similar reasons. I contacted my local bird rescue and I’m on their list for a bronze wing, but they’re so rare here in the states that I doubt one will ever come up. I also found a breeder, but their waiting list is closed for the year. Fingers crossed that I can get on next year. I expect it’ll be at least a year or two before I’ll get a Pionus, but they’re worth the wait. Meanwhile I’m enjoying your videos!

Love your videos! Did a lot of research recently and thought that pionus would definitely be my type of bird, then come to realize that owning a pionus is illegal here in Australia. Poicephalus parrots like Ruppells parrot and Meyers parrots are the other ones that I am considering. I prefer the color of the Ruppells then later came to realize that they weren't imported into the country🥲Wonder if I should move to another country for my dream bird🤣
Yeah Australia is challenging because you have so many native species that they can't risk some species coming into the country. Its a shame but I can understand why. Maybe try research what birds you can own in Australia and research if any of them are suitable for you? If not then birds like pigeons are amazing alternatives and require a lot less care than parrots, but just as intelligent and loyal.
I went to see the Pionus today my son want's one.But I fel in love whit a Meyers parot. But its stil in consideration.

Yes my friend had one. They're beautiful stunning birds! But conures weren't the right fit for my lifestyle sadly.

@@PionusTales I absolutely love conures! I've never had a bird and can't get on till I move out, but it's set in my heart and has been for over a year to get one when I am fully prepared (especially financially)
Gc are like puppies that never grow into adulthood lol I had my green cheek fireball for 10 years. I was very ill in college and he’s the only reason I woke up to continue life. At the right time of your life a conure can save you. Now as a successful busy person with a husband and a German shepherd, an Indian ring neck, a jenday conure and a cat I would not get one again. Conures aren’t pets they are companions and friends, meaning it’s not about what they can do for you but what you can do for each other. My gc fireball and the connection we had is nothing like any of the animals I have or had including my 94ib shepherd.hes gentle with everyone and extra obsessed with me but not like a parrot where you really earn their trust and love.. I also had a cockatiel for 21 years that I grew up with since I was 11. She passed in 2021 a year after fireball. Fireball and I would literally nap together, after my classes he would see my napping on the couch he would fly over land on my pillow and literally lay down right at my temple and nap with me. I have a jenday who I raised and he’s way sweeter than fireball but he is no where near fireball. My point is, you’re young and free and you should definitely get one and you will never regret it and he will save you at the right time of your life.
These are not color variations, but different species. Though I guess you already know as this is an old video.
I do now yes. Colour variations was just an easier way to describe the differences at the time.
How much cost a pionus in euro at you're countrie? In the store in the Netherlands between 750 and 950 euro.
In the UK its GBP not Euros. The price vary but most baby pionus are currently around £800-£1200 depending on which one it is. White capped are most common so slightly cheaper, £1200 is a maximillian baby.

As a carer for many species of parrots and birds with over 40 years experience, in my opinion you may be looking into getting a feathered friend the wrong way, I am not saying the Pionus is not a lovely bird but I can only advise you to meet the bird first. No matter what species you will choose you will know how the bird will react to you, Its like a young child whom when they want something they will flash there eyes with that please please look. the best bird is the one that has that instant bond with you. In your early video you said about free flying, well its not something I will recommend with out a lot of training not only for your bird but also for your self. As a free flyer of many species for public displays or myself from Raptors Parrots and even finches (yes its possible to train a finch) Would I free fly a Pionus, that's a good question and Knowing that they can be more prone for catching bacterial problems than most other species will concern me. I will also recommend a full blood check on any bird you decide on, this will point out many problems from virus to diet needs. I am pleased you are doing your research, just remember mutual love at first sight is always the best way of choosing a companion forever.
I really appreciate your input, and this is great advice for anyone first getting a bird. But for me the species was just as important as the bird itself. Just like with choosing a dog, its important to get an idea of which breed are right for you before choosing which dog you buy. And i would never get any animal that I didnt have an instant bond with. As you're right. That is probably the most important part of choosing any pet
