I came from the sound of dragonfly planes in the movie Dune.

  • @robg521
    @robg521 Před 3 měsíci +2

I think that they used these in the new Dune movie for the sound of the thopters.
They didn’t want the normal sound of a rotating helicopter blade but need the back and forth sound to suit the motion of the thopter’s flapping type blades.
[so that they sound like mechanical dragon fly wings]

These wind wands have a lot of potential for psychedelic music. I gotta get these.

Just made a couple of these out of Lego, a single band on each to produce 4 tones. Did not have any large bands like you use. The first one broke and went flying across the room. The 2nd I made out of Lego used an even smaller elastic band but I really liked the tones it produces, very harmonic and swinging softly only the most relaxed parts of the band vibrate.

This is so creative I love it. The application wasn't for me until the end when you started playing it in a waving motion instead of a circular motion. Sounds wild!

Thank you for giving the secret on how to stop the rattling on the 3rd wind wand...now, I can be happy when I play instead of bewildered on how to fix rattling.

If you order a sheet of latex and glue, you can experiment with different shapes, thicknesses and widths.

I love it these things are cool. The traditional bull Roar that you swing on a string you have to do that outside and it takes a lot of effort to do it. I know you can get these off of Lark in the morning supposedly I'm having a hard time getting there website to process my order

  • @AlexJacksonTempleSounds

I make these and they do sound much better outside.

Seeing this makes me want to hear those played in some heavily resonant space, with several stereo mic pairs setup all over the place to capture the stereo image.

Until I watched your vid, I hadn't known that the bands were rubber bands. I'd assumed they were fabric ribbons (tho those might work too).

  • @jedstanaland2897

Do you think that the wind wand can be made with hemp rope or other natural cordage. I can understand if it would need to be adjusted any time you want to change the note or but I think if you had two cords that were tied to a single point then they would be ran along the path then you have a knot that you would use to tightly secure the entire cordage and you may even be able to use multiple cords for each path. Just a few ideas that I think I will be trying.

  • @ocpourvoir

Interesting instrument ! What would be the sounds, if the rubber band was replace, by different types of fabric ribbon, or metal band, or if the axis that stretch the band was a tube with an hole like a flute... ?!?

Man that last one really does sound like a lightsaber, or a wave-able didgeridoo. I didn’t see your other video yet, but were these actually used for the original Star Wars sounds? I always assumed a synth sound, but now that I hear these...
